Hi,

I did a ten day water fast when I was going to a doctor who wrote a book

on fasting. All of my pain went away too, and my pain at the time was

extensive or I wouldn't have done it. Unfortunately, as soon as I started

back on food, even though I was doing a

strict elimination diet, the pain came right back. Bummer, but too true.

I have found that avoiding dairy, grains, and starches in general really

helps me a lot. Some people cannot eat nightshade plants at all.

Good luck,

Gloria

I'm interested in your diary. Or let me know what group.

david...i am interested in your 'diary' also. do you think your

absence of pain is a result of the fast? are you on minocin? my

minor (college) is in nutrition and i am very interested in the

diet's effect on aggravating the inflammation. thanks for any

information you share.

Hi , I'll post my diary here as well, since a number of others are

interested too.

Most definitely the absence of pain is a result of the fast. I've never

been like this except while taking meds. This is the first time I've felt

this way while meds-free.

I did a long course of minocin back in 1997, I think it was at least a

year, probably more. I had some pretty severe herx reactions when I started

with just a low dose M W F. I eventually stopped it when I went off it for

a month and found no difference when restarting it. Minocin did something

for me, it brought me up a notch in my health, permanently.

Since then I've had numerous detox-type reactions, most noticeably when I

started vegetable juicing and made a garlic-beet juice that simultaneously

acted like an antibiotic and liver cleanser.

With this fasting I'm giving my body a chance to eliminate the last of my

arthritis, hopefully for good, and possibly even reverse some of the

physical damage it has inflicted. From what I've read about extended fasts,

it's entirely possible. I'm really excited about it.

/others interested in fasting.

I try to fast every 6 months to 'clean' out my system. The last time I

fasted I drank water only for 10 days. I also find that my pain disappears when

I

fast. I've tried to figure out what aggravates my RA most by monitoring what I

add back. So far my results show that 'anything' I add back into my diet

starts the pain back. This last fast I added fresh pineapple juice (put it thru

my

Juiceman). Completely pure and the pain returned immediately. My own theory is

that when my body does not have to use it's resources to digest food; it can

fight the RA best (along with Minocin...which I have been taking for 7 years).

As soon as I eat/drink anything my body shifts 'gears' to digest....thus

letting the RA/pain return. Just a thought. I have been extremely interested in

the fasting theory for over 3 years and I have 5/10 day fasts under my belt; but

no answers. After all I can not not eat.Good Luck to all.

I'm starting my juice fast tomorrow. THE BIG DAY! I don't know anymore about it than you probably already do. But, I'll keep you posted as I go.

I have a question: Does anyone know why when I followed the recipe for a Breakfast Juice I only got 2 oz. ??? Is that all I can have? I'm gonna starve to death!

Thanks,

Tammy : )

I personally have practiced fasting for the last 10 years. I do monofasts on a

monthly basis and three times a year do a water fast for about 23 days at a

time. It took 10 years to get here but I am convinced that this practice has

been one of the arrows in my quiver. I am still fighting this brain tumor but

have been for 16 years. The other four cancers are all gone. I am now 40 years

old and my metabolism is optimal. I bodybuild and very energetic.

Blessings,

Johanne

One of the things that Esser, of Florida, who had a 'Health Retreat' for

scores of years, told me that the brain does not react to fasting as other

parts of the body do. Fortunately for you, you are doing so much in the way

of 'good practices, you are here these 16 years.

Surely the fasting is part of those 'good practices'.

Hey Joe,

Yes, I am aware that fasting does not affect the brain as other parts of the

body but for some reason, my body was falling apart at such a young age. It's

probably due to the intense traumatic childhood. I was 23 years old when I was

told of the brain tumor. It was very scary for us. I was just married and

planning my life at the time.

Fortunately, if I support the whole body, it will help the brain to some extent

but I also know that the brain is the computer of this body and decides my fate

in many ways.

Blessings,

Johanne

HI all some of you wanted to hear about my fasting.I got to Calif. the 12th.

started my fast the 13th. Its been 9 days into the fast the fast itself has

not been bad surprising enough I have not been hungry the first time. I have had

some major flare ups The Dr. say's its getting rid of the toxic in my body

and I will continue to have the flare ups but on different levels the more toxic

removed from the body the less intense they will be. Have also lost

14lbs.This place is a wealth of knowledge They give a leacture daily. The diet

we are

suppose to live by is the vegan diet no exceptions. I have so much to learn in

the way of cookingthis is all new to me. Thank God for cookbooks. If any of

you have question I will try to answer.

,

Are you still there? I hope so since I thought this was all medically

supervised. I've read a lot about fasting causing remission in RA, but

unfortunately many times when food is reintroduced, the symptoms all

come back. This is why some doctors theorize that food

allergy/intolerance is responsible for flare ups of arthritis. What is

the beliefs of the doctors that you are seeing? I've also read about a

diet called the Hallelujah diet which is a vegan diet based on passages

of the Bible that say what we should eat. It is all so interesting and

I hope one day we get some answers. There is just to much conflicting

data on the effects of diet on health. One doctor says we shouldn't

eat meat and the next one says that meat is all we should eat. I

wonder if they have hydroponics for people :)

Good luck and let us know how you do. The internet is full of vegan

recipes which will also help. When you're ready to start cooking, let

me know if you need some vegan recipe sites and I'll send them to you.

a yes IM still here on my 12th. day of fasting doing a 30 day fast and

longer if needed the staff here are wonderful. starting to feel better. The day

I got here I could not walk everything in my body was screaming in pain. have

been bed ridden most of the time due to my knees being inflamed. but today I

can walk my left knee still hurts but not anything like it did also my left

wrist hurts but praise god thats all. There out look on food is vegan diet lots

of raw veg. no meat, fish, dairy, caffine also people with RA should not have

any citrus fruits, no corn no night shade veg. and no oil I have not eaten like

this (southern fried everything) so it will be a big change lots to learn.

After the fast you have to stay half that time on what they call refeeding

program. that will give me some ideas.plus they have a cook book. They have

leactures just about every day although I have not been able to join in them

soon I

would go today but can not get my bra on.such a simple thing becomes impossible

.. a I would love it if you would share your recipes Thanks for 3 days my

weight maintained then yesterday I gained a lb. then this morning lost 2lb.

total of 16lbs.

Hi all today is my 16th. day of fasting. today is the first day that I have

been almost pain free in 8 months theres soreness in my hands and wrist but

very livable. today is the first day that I have been able to dress myself since

i have been here. can not believe there is no pain. as of today i have lost

20 lbs. went outside today layed in the sun it was wonderful. We just do not

realize what we have until we lose it. IM sure the pain will return the Dr.

said that the detox works kind of like peeling an onion it works in layers it

will attract an area then let the body rest then come back for a deeper clean.

well that's it for today P.S. all prayers are welcome

Hi -

I'm new to this list, and would love to hear what your fasting procedure has

been like. Why you're doing it, what it's supposed to accomplish, what you're

allowed on your fast, etc.

I've done three day fasts but never anything longer than that. I've been

considering doing it again and am really interested in your experience.
