Guest guest
> I WAS SOBER TEN YEARS IN A MAIN LINE PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH > WHERE THE BIBLE WAS VIEWED NON-LITERALLY AND USED AS A > GUIDE FOR ETHICAL LIVING.[sIC] I am a practicing Catholic and went to the priest back in 1997 re: some past family issues that I was still having trouble with. When the priest recommended counseling, I piped up about how I go to AA and NA. Father Bob advised that I stop going to these meetings since the " program " is run by people who are not qualified to counsel others. Even though I did not leave the AA and NA until this past February, I am glad that this cleric had the courage to tell me what he truly thought of these twelve-step programs thus planting the seed. P.S. You are absolutely right about the many AA/NA women and their behavior towards the male steppers. http://clubs.yahoo.com/clubs/aaornatwelvestepcults
Guest guest
I hope that you have gone back and thanked Father Bob because this is the most incredible gift he could have given you. I used to go to catholic retreats (for people in recovery) and they were wonderful. We had our own special Franciscan named Father Bob and I have a great deal of fond memories of him! kisses Tom Boy At 09:49 PM 12/12/01 +0000, you wrote: I am a practicing Catholic and went to the priest back in 1997 re: some past family issues that I was still having trouble with. Guest guest
Lol, I have thought about it that anyone who claims (to himself or anyone else) to have an understanding of " god " is being grandiose... I came to that conclusion in AA, while trying to better comprehend humility. It is the opposite of humble to think one's self is capable of understanding things so much larger than the self, like the universe, its inception, its destiny. I think most people think humble means " seeing one's self as small " which isn't very accurate, but the opposite would be grandiose - seeing one's self as great. I think the actual definition of humble is knowing where one stands, and the opposite of that is not knowing where one stands. That fits just about anyone who claims to know. The more I know, the more I realize I don't know. " The ignorant man always adores what he can not understand. " -- Cesare Lambroso BTW, about Hitler's henchman who said something about the " biggest lie " there have been an infinite number of proofs of that statement. People believe what they want to believe. Just knowing what they want to believe is all it takes. (no subject) In 1971 I took the Stanford University course on " Alcoholism-modern psychological approaches to treatment " (Blum 1966) and the book says that alcoholics can be tricked through their GRANDIOSITY into believing a higher power will rescue them when that same higher power lets 40,000 children die of disease and starvation every day. AA has always been a BIG LIE - Hitler said that it had to be a BIG LIE in order to work on the masses. AA proves he was correct! Malthus showed the reality of POPULATION CHECKS like war, famine and DISEASE. If you accept that you have the incurable disease of " alcoholism " you admit that you have been checked for elimination by evolution. Gee thanks, Mr. ! Guest guest
You mean you have to be able to love yourself before you can love others? But this program teaches that you aren't lovable, that you are despicable, but you are still somehow supposed to accept love from these other despicable people and love them back. I hope you have fun at the meeting. Don't forget to tell them what great people they have become because of the program... whoops, they might think you stopped lying. (no subject) Sometime this week I'm going to go to an AA meeting and announce in a thick Irish accent that I'm Paddy Flanigan and I'm just visiting from Pathological Liars Anonymous and that I'm not alcoholic but I am psychotic and I really like AA meetings! I just love goofing on those moonies! I don't like them 'cause they don't like themselves and expect someone other than them to give them self esteem. If they can't give themselves self esteem how can they give it to you?
Guest guest
no AA wouldn't be out of business. First of all they would just call you a liar. Second they would tell you that you have a chip on your shoulder. Third they would tell you that you are a drunk and need AA and last but not least everyone makes mistakes and its not nice to say bad things about Bill W. He has saved a lot of people from death you know, so I don't care what people say about AA. There ya go, satisfied that AA won't be out of business? kisses Tom Boy At 08:17 PM 12/12/01 -0500, you wrote: I once saw a young sober girl with head injury from a car accident told to " shut your face " in front of fifty people at the Austin Northland AA club. I have reason to believe this is true. Jeezus..if you prove this! AA would finally be out of business!
Guest guest
Alateen and dare = Hitler youth (no subject) Twenty five years ago my mother did a fifth step with her sponsor when she was sixth months sober and her sponsor gabbed it all over the program. My mom went on a binge like I'd never seen and had to be hospitalized. This is a woman who worked her way through a famous New Haven Conn university in the 1940's when most women didn,t graduate from high school. She rejoined the Catholic church so that she would have at least some sober fellowship and has been sober twenty four years! Part of her fifth step included damage (non-sexual) done to me and when I was forced to attend AA (like every alateen is eventually-alateen is their prerecruitment program) I was shamed by members with information I thought was totally confidential. These people ARE DANGEROUS!

Guest guest
Just for the record I don't believe in the word " alcoholic " . The word " alcoholic " has not been used for the past 20 years or so except in the 12 step/treatment industry. One would instead be diagnosed with an alcohol dependency. kisses Tom Boy At 08:49 PM 12/12/01 -0500, you wrote: But mom, I'd rather do it my own way, and WIN!
