Oh, I'm so sorry you had to put up with all that. It really is criminal the

improper and/or

undertreating some doctors do. We go to a doctor with hope and trust in our

how about the retarded ppl I work with who have every symptom of congenital

hypo (which CAUSES mental retardation) they are untreated b/c of TSH test!!!!!

they get ativan and depakote and kepra instead of thyroid meds!

Severe iodine deficiency can cause low TSH, as well as damage to H-P-A axis.

THE ONLY WAY ARMOUR WILL EFFECT YOUR EYES IS IF YOU ARE TAKING TOO MUCH OR

NOT ENOUGH. ARMOUR HAS NO SIDE EFFECTS. SORRY FOR CAPS, just noticed it.

I wasn't screaming at you.

Weird Scientist,

Why do you have to be so crude. I do not understand you. I am not a

prude and there are places you may be able to respond like this but

this is not one of them. Maybe it didn't bother anyone else but I

think it was uncalled for, AGAIN. You could have expressed yourself

in a different manner. Maybe you were trying to be funny but it didn't

make me laught. Just my two cents.

Synthroid IS bioidentical. It just happens to also be synthetic.

I refrained from mentioning it before, but all the potential side

effects listed by the manufacturer indeed are symptoms of either too

much or too little. Only the sensitivity to incipients and to T4 itself

seemed like real side effects.

I haven't really been following the whole weird scientist vs the people thing

but just from seeing what he wrote below is enough to make me?really worried

about him.?

Weird Scientist - Just don't saying anything like that anymore here. Take it to

a therapist or something. Could you scream " I have issues and want

attention " ?any louder? It's not that we don't care,?we just?really don't want to

hear things said in the way you insist on saying them.? Now, I'm sure you're

thinking about writing a nasty post back to me or something, which I would

expect from someone who has proven to be so imature, but please talk to a

psychiatrist about your feelinsgs first. And then if you still want to say

something nasty to me, ask for my e-mail address and spare everyone else from

having to read it too. Oh, and?if you get bored talking to?the therapist about

how you act in this group, bring up your issues with women ... that will keep

you busy for a lllooonnnggg time.

Do take care of yourself now!

..... (ASAP please!)

my hormones are compounded and there is no drug insert. are you saying that

the hormones your body makes give you " side effects " ? b/c that's impossible.

I think you are thinking of the side effects from synthetic hormones that have

been changed molecularly so they can be patented--like progestins.

too much of any hormone whether it is synthetic or bio-identical can be a bad

thing. think about it- when the body's own system goes haywire as in producing

too much prolactin [another hormone] you get hyperprolactemia, which can affect

one's fertility. too much estrogen can cause fibroids or trigger cancer- you get

the picture.

there are no side effects from a bioidentical hormone. there is only too

much or too little.

1/2 grain Armour qualifies as too little.

thyroid hormone affects every cell in the body.

well..I thought we were treating based on symptoms...not just based on the

labs...and Armour does do me a lotta good...for instance, me typing away

like this was an impossibility 2 weeks ago (which is when I started 1/2

grain)...

even my acidity seems to be neutralized for some reason..am ALWAYS

Hypoglycemic...weak etc...but now if I don't eat (which doesn't happen

rash right below my adam's apple for a week now as well...not sure if that

has anything to do with it.

anywayz my point being i like the benefits of Armour...am just scared about

itz detriments( well just one really...itz effect on the eyes)

Gracia,

You wrote:

The required inserts list all the possible bad reactions that can

happen, and yes, even the hormones your body makes can have these " side "

effects. When they do, it is usually called a named syndrome, such as

" Grave's. "

> I think you are thinking of the side effects from synthetic hormones

There are some chemicals that have a hormonal effect, but are not the

actual hormone molecule. For example, the following xenoestrogens all

affect the estrous cycle, just like archiestrogens (estradiol, estriol,

and estrone), but they are NOT estrogen:

4-Methylbenzylidene camphor (4-MBC) (sunscreen lotions)

butylated hydroxyanisole / BHA (food preservative)

atrazine (weedkiller)

bisphenol A (monomer for polycarbonate plastic and epoxy resin;

antioxidant in plasticizers)

dieldrin (insecticide)

DDT (insecticide)

endosulfan (insecticide)

erythrosine / FD & C Red No. 3

heptachlor (insecticide)

lindane / hexachlorocyclohexane (insecticide)

methoxychlor (insecticide)

nonylphenol and derivatives (industrial surfactants; emulsifiers for

emulsion polymerization; laboratory detergents; pesticides)

polychlorinated biphenyls / PCBs (in electrical oils, lubricants,

adhesives, paints)

parabens (lotions)

phenosulfothiazine (a red dye)

phthalates (plasticizers)

Plants also make chemicals with estrogen effect. For example, soy has

phytoestrogens, that also mimic estrogen but aren't. These may be

" natural, " but they are estrogen MIMICS. They are not bioidentical.

Synthetic T4 is NOT like any of these. It is the exact same molecule as

the T4 you once made. It is bioidentical. It is the same as T4 in

Armour, it just doesn't come with all the other stuff in the dessicated

tissue.

Nope - its not impossible. The ingredient (estradiol, or testosterone or

whatever) has info available on the web as the the side effects. Your

druggist would have that available as well should you inquire. I am not

thinking of synthetics - I'm speaking of the hormones you have compounded

(as I do).

If this comes thro a ghazillion times, forgive me - I dunno whats happening

there

I am not sure what kinda symptoms do I have to have to make myself

believable..I'd pretty much have every symptom that anybody thatz been diagnosed

with Hypothyroidism has...except for being overweight...

and you are right about the going blind thing... which is the reason I have

stopped Armour..itz been two weeks now.... I don't plan on taking it for quite a

bit.

maybe HC...and even thatz scary... but certainly not Armour.

yes I would take advice from ppl who have already gone through this sh & *..I

always respect ppl ..thank everybody etc ... when you gave me that reply the

other day .I was in real pain...and in no position to take crap from anybody.

I actually felt better on HC alone ..but that took quite a while to work...and

itwas before the Glaucoma diagnosis.

Well then, what of your symptoms caused you to draw conclusions

completely contradictory to your saliva tests?

You have chosen to self prescribe some serious medication in

contradiction to tests, albeit questionable tests, even though that

medication might leave you permanently blind. That fact alone makes me

wonder whether you would really accept advice from this list. I can see

that my remark, to which you reacted so emotionally, was probably

incorrect. Even your incredibly low dosage is probably not justified,

whether you think it is causing a benefit or not.

Treating based on symptoms means that your symptoms can be used as an

additional source of information once you have a clear diagnosis. If you

don't know with certainty that the cause is your thyroid, then symptoms

are just symptoms. All sorts of things cause similar symptoms. You need

to have some confidence that your symptoms are reliable indicators of

thyroid status. Even then, most doctors take patient reports with a

grain of salt, since most people are quite suggestible and subject to

placebo effects. Blood tests are not.

I would think that glaucoma is a sufficiently serious threat that you

would not want to risk a direct threat to your vision over unreliable

tests and symptoms that could be anything.
