PITA???? Okay okay, I guess Imma kid. Also, WS, you need to request an MRI

of your pituitary gland. They need to check for any tumors. My mom had all

the hypo symptoms and the eye problems you do (even dx'd with glaucoma), but

actually it was a pituitary tumor.

-- Re: Armour and Glaucoma

When someone here is " spaced out " I suspect it's seldom the medication

causing it; except possibly when the medication is too low or the wrong

type. Hypothyroidism is just one of a number of conditions we can have

that involve some kind of hormone difficulty. And hormone problems can

cause _many_ different kinds or reactions. Many of them interact, so it

can be really impossible sometimes to try to figure out exactly what is

going on.

Personally, Christmas is more of a PITA than anything else. But the

kids really love it...

OK I'll take it. I was born 3/1 so I was almost born on leap year day. Then

Well, you never sound, in your posts, like you are MUCH older than us but you

are. OOPS

sorry! Didn't mean for my fingers to type that. :) You sound like a

whippersnapper

yourself. A very late happy birthday to you. In a few weeks we can be on time

for you!

Venizia

PS don't want to sound stupid but what does PITA stand for? I'm sure if I

thought about it I

would figure it out.

For some reason I had thought Weird Scientist was female; I don't know

why and I may be wrong. Corrections welcome.

But I took the reference to " 'her' being spaced out " as wondering if we

all thought another poster might also be spaced out; after someone

suggested WS might be spaced out from illness and/or medication. But I

may be totally wrong on that too. I guess I haven't really followed

some of it too closely. I kind of get turned off when the name calling

starts...

Just for clarity, is Weird Scientist male or female???

I see two logical possibilities: One, they were born the last day of

February, so the last day of February could be their birthday. Two,

they were born the day after Feb. 28, which would be Feb. 29 on leap

years and March 1 all other years.

Take your choice. Sorry, only one per customer...

There is a third choice, with results the same as the second choice:

They were born the 60th day of the year; so celebrate as in number two

above.

I don't remember who set this up (used to know), but I think it would have been

better to

add minutes to each day to account for the 24 hours extra.

365/24=15.21minutes. That

way there would be no extra day where someones birthday could get lost or

bandied

about.

yes I was referring to the lady that got severely emotional and threatened to

leave the group....she did sound like she was spaced out..

I am MALE..perhaps I should upload a picture of my genitalia in the Files

section?...lol

She didn't have cancer it was a benign pituitary tumor. SHe had aches

everywhere. She was dx'd with RLS for this " Joint pain. " It took several

years for a correct DX.

That wouldn't work, as the length of the year is not an exact number of

days. See this quote from Science Fact Finder:

" A year is the time it takes for the Earth to complete one revolution

around the sun. Specifically, this period is 365.242199 days (365 days,

5 hours, 48 minutes, 46 seconds). The fact that a year is not comprised

of a whole number of days has posed challenges to calendar-makers

throughout the millennia. For instance, the ancient Egyptians, Romans,

and Greeks used calendars with 365 days. This calendar, however, was off

by an entire day approximately every four years.

A big improvement was made with the n calendar, crafted by Julius

Caesar (100-44 B.C.) in 46 B.C. The n calendar, which was 365.25

days long, inserted an extra day, or " leap day, " every fourth year. Even

with that adjustment, the n calendar was off by 11 minutes and 14

seconds per year. By the mid-1500s that error had accumulated so that

the n calendar was 10 days ahead of the Earth's... "

O.K. I'll accept all that info. However, in this age of super computers I would

think that the problem could be solved in a more equitable manner, making

the days even. Just MHO (hopo).

You could, at least to a very close approximation in numbers. However,

to do so you would have to change the length of the units of time; and

that would create a lot more problems than it would solve.

And even then it would not be accurate, because the exact time of day

that marks the passage of a year changes every year by over 5 hours and

48 minutes. It's a bit more complicated than it looks.

In addition, over time the rotational velocity of the Earth slows down;

and the length of the year increases a minuscule quantity. I think...

In a few billion years the Earth will be tidally locked to the Sun, and

will always have the same side turned toward the Sun, just as the same

side of the Moon is always turned toward Earth.

That doesn't sound like it would be very comfortable. One side day and sone side

night. I hope the speed of transportation increases, so we could run back and

forth

Weirs Scientist, I just wanted you to know that I never thought you were female.

Women argue differently. I was a counselor for many years.

Roni

yes I was referring to the lady that got severely emotional and

threatened to leave the group....she did sound like she was spaced out..

I am MALE..perhaps I should upload a picture of my genitalia in the Files

section?...lol

Scientist was female; I don't know

why and I may be wrong.

I kind of get turned off when the name calling

starts...

Just for clarity, is Weird Scientist male or female???

weird Scientist,

This response just arrived. Evidently is scrambling deliveries.

Well then, what of your symptoms caused you to draw conclusions

completely contradictory to your saliva tests?

You have chosen to self prescribe some serious medication in

contradiction to tests, albeit questionable tests, even though that

medication might leave you permanently blind. That fact alone makes me

wonder whether you would really accept advice from this list. I can see

that my remark, to which you reacted so emotionally, was probably

incorrect. Even your incredibly low dosage is probably not justified,

whether you think it is causing a benefit or not.

Treating based on symptoms means that your symptoms can be used as an

additional source of information once you have a clear diagnosis. If you

don't know with certainty that the cause is your thyroid, then symptoms

are just symptoms. All sorts of things cause similar symptoms. You need

to have some confidence that your symptoms are reliable indicators of

thyroid status. Even then, most doctors take patient reports with a

grain of salt, since most people are quite suggestible and subject to

placebo effects. Blood tests are not.

I would think that glaucoma is a sufficiently serious threat that you

would not want to risk a direct threat to your vision over unreliable

tests and symptoms that could be anything.

PLEASE ChucK please. blood test never Dxed me. I stayed very ill for 30

years. There are all kinds of reason why TSH is a crappy test. Peeps with

fibro and CFS always have " normal " tests, but they can be cured with enough

Armour, cortef and iodine.
