Hello and welcome to the list Sandy!!!!! Lurking is someone who just reads

the posts without ever posting themselves. Stacking is a supplement of

ephedrine, caffeine and aspirin that some on the list are taking to help

speed up the weight loss process or to get over a stall. But stacking isn't

for everyone, you have to check the labels carefully.

Sandy,

Welcome to the list!! Stacking is a mixture of drugs that help weight loss

that a few list members are trying. Lurking is someone who is a member but

doesn't post, just reads. Your going to be a great addition to the list!!

Good luck!!

Hi,

I'm Carol and am looking forward to starting and being part of this way of

life. I have been very skeptical of starting Atkins as a past WW member and

being brainwashed about the dangers of a high fat diets. Today is my first

day and want to loose 50 pounds by tomorrow....OK...as long as it takes. As

I go along, I am sure, I will have many questions, right now, I will follow

Atkins' book.

Hello all. Thank you for the welcome. I am a 28 year old single/divorced

mother of one daughter. I am about 50 pounds over what I would like to

weigh. Anyway, I've been trying to do this diet ever since I heard about it

4 months ago. Though it does seem to have many names (grapefruit diet, heart

diet, etc.) I think that it is all the same high protein/low carb diet. It

seemed at the time that it was the perfect diet for me because I would still

be able to eat good tasting foods even though I wasn't much of a meat eater.

The first two weeks of the diet, I stuck to it faithfully and lost about 14

pounds but then those carbs would call me in the middle of every night and I

gained about 10 back. I've been dieting on and off for the past couple

months and really have just been losing and gaining back the same weight. I

decided that this time I really wanted to lose the weight and not just for

numbers sake but I really desire to feel healthy and energetic again. I

think joining this group will serve as an encourager to keep focused on my

goal.

I hope I am not considered a lurker because I participate as much as time

allows. Similarly to many of you I lead a very busy life, but I am excited

to find this group and look forward to participating in discussions with you

all.

Wende

PS - thanks for the tip about Pork Rinds! I never even thought about those!

Yea!

Wende,

Welcome to the group. There are a lot of diets out there and you have found

the right one, I am not sure what the grapefriut diet is but on Atkins it is

not allowed. also if you have not already done it, buy the book, any low carb

book that you want to follow, The majority of us do Atkins and some do

Protien Power. I think any low carb diet is good as long as you follow the

instructions. You have joined a great list! at the end of my signature is a

link to my web site that has lots of links to help you on your way. Good

Luck!!

Hi Martha, welcome to the list. Be good to yourself: it took me 10 days

to see an ounce. It gets easier though, and you'll find lots of good

suggestions here.

Hi Penny,

Thanks for the words of encouragement. I guess I'm a little impatient for some

loss. I do notice I'm a little lightheaded. Does anyone else have that

problem? Added a little carb in the form of grapefruit juice and seems I felt

better. Maybe I can't cut my carbs that low all at once.

Any comments?

Hey, I'm . I started the Atkins diet almost a week ago (triggered by

watching Oprah about Carbohydrate addicts). I have appx. 20 pounds or so to

lose. I don't own a scale, so I'm just guessing. So far, the diet is going

great. I'm pretty sure I have lost some weight already. I woke up feeling really

sick one day, but I think it was because I was barely eating any carbs. Anyway,

I'm doing really well and drinking a lot of water. I've been getting a lot of

compliments lately, and I feel great. I'm still really young, and I really think

this will work in the long run; I think it's something I can live with.

Did anyone watch Oprah? They said that ketosis was bad for you, but I thought it

was supposed to be the state of using up stored fat, or something along those

lines.

Sorry about the long email.

Hi anna, If ketosis is burning fat, How do you lose fat without it showing in

the urine? It doesn't make sense to me. Except they came across like preachers,

wanting followers. Sometimes there are more than one way to do something. Also

they are getting rich off of their WOe. It has to be different to have a patent.

What else could they come up with .? Suzannes' ,food combines....sugarbusters

eliminates starch and sugar, and ATkins is high protien. Cad is a combination of

all of these. Part food combine and part eat what you want, in limited amounts.

Anyone who eats a lot of sugar will initially lose on all these programs. The

trick is to lose all of the weight to goal and keep it off. Not that first chunk

that comes from the elimination of starch and sugar. In my opinion

anyway....even low fat and low calorie get results initially....It's the

lifelong part that we are looking for the proper way to stay lean and

trim...Right?

Hi Martha, this is iris. i too am a diabetic and i can tell you that if you

lose the carbs, your blood sugar will go down. it may take a few months so

continue to check you sugar levels before you take your medicine. when your

blood sugar goes down, so will your cholesterol, your triglicerides, your

blood pressure. if you stay on a low carb diet be sure to tell your

physician so they can adjust or take you off your medicine. iris
