I am in Cincinnati Ohio. Dr. Fallang did my surgery. I always get the

two mixed up distal and promixal. All I know is the did not pass alot

of my intestines

It takes a lot of practice.

You might want to try one of those guided relaxation tapes to get you started.

If you put the tape on, get really comfortable, turn off the phone, etc.

Then concentrate on your breathing, listen the what the person is saying, and

try to think about what they are telling you.

At first, all those thoughts are gonna be there. But, I found that if you have

the guided tape, it gives you something else to try to think about. They talk

you through it.

It still takes a lot of practice.

I learned in my mind/body class that we almost never live " in the moment " . we

are constantly bombarded with thoughts that have nothing to do with what we are

actually doing. It really comes out when you are trying to learn how to

meditate, or go to sleep.

One exercise that helps is called " mindful tasks " . When you have something to

do, like say, wash the dishes, you concentrate on what you are actually doing.

The feel of the plate in your hands, the water, the soap, the movements, and so

on. You can do with with any task. Anything at all. The point is, we aren't

thinking about NOW. I try to do this when I'm doing the dishes, which I loath

more than anything else, and it actually helps me get through it without

frustration. I'm not thinking, " UUGGHH! I HATE this, I just don't want to do

it, I want it DONE! " So, what I'm doing is controling my thoughts. Then, when

it comes time to meditate, you are more practiced in controling all those

thoughts that bombard you.

You can do this with eating. If you really like chocolate, but know you

shouldn't be eating too much of it (for example) you can get one little piece,

feel it, rub it on your lips, smell it, put it in your mouth and just let it sit

there, thinking about the chocolate, and only the chocolate - how it tastes,

smells, feels. So, what you are doing is controling your thoughts again. You

will end up eating less chocolate, because it is much more satifying, and you

are practicing controling your thoughts. So, instead of shoving a candy bar

down your throat (the way I do) you are savouring a small piece. And, if you do

this, it will probably be the best piece of chocolate you've ever had.

As you go through your day, when you think about it, try to do mindful tasks.

Even for a minute or 2. If you are filing paperwork, vacuuming the floor,

making a copy on a copy machine, digging a hole, etc. Try to just hink about

what exactly you are doing, not what you are gonna make for dinner, what repairs

need to be done on the house, all those thoughts that make you so anxious,

etc....

You know.

The more you practice, the more you exercise your brain, the easier the

meditaion will get.

Don't give up. It really does take a lot of practice.

I'm at the point where I get really relaxed, and I sort of feel myself slipping

deeper into relaxation, then I jerk myself out of it. Like I'm afraid of what's

there. At least that's what my therapist says. I just have to get tot he point

where I can deal with whatever it is. And, it may be nothing.

Practice, practice, practice!!!!!

Our son Kody was born Feb 1st 2004 with a clubfoot.

The doctors went right away ahead and put his leg

in a cast. Now after 2 1/2 month we are not really

happy with the treatment anymore and they already mentioned

that he might need surgery. Today I read about the

Ponseti method and I got very interested.

My question is: Are there any doctors in Southern

California who know how to apply that method

correctly or do we have to contact the University

in Iowa to do it the treatment over there.

I would be very happy if somebody could give me an

answer.

Be careful of your So Cal docs. That is where we used to live and our son went

to a doctor claiming to do the Ponseti Method- but made too many variations.

Our son regressed and we had to travel to Iowa to have him recasted at 15 mos.

Any doctor you choose ask the board and Dr. Ponseti about. His office keeps a

list of the goodies and not so goodies!

It is never too late to change doctors. We are seeing Dr. King in

Tarzana, and he is doing a great job. We started out with a local

ortho and were told that was going to need surgery and for

some reason or another thought there has to be something better. We

ended up in Iowa City. For us it was more practical, my inlaws live

about 2 hrs from there and my brother inlaw actually works at the

university hospital. Insurance was going to pay the same if we

stayed here or went there, so that was an easy choice for us.

Now that we have a new insurance, we don't have the luxury of going

back to Iowa, and have seen Dr. Early and Dr. King with no

problems. I would defineatly read up on the Ponseti protocol and be

sure that the Dr. is doing the correct treatment.

Where about in So Cal are you? We live in the San Valley.

wrote to Dr. Ponseti and he answered me soon after regarding doctors in Orange

County. Here is what he said, I am sure this will be a big help to you and may

help you avoid a trip to Tarzana since he recommends a doctor here in Orange

County. Here is the actual text of his email:

Before a physician is added to my web site, I request that he send me the photos

of the feet of three babies he has treated showing the feet before treatment was

started and after it was complete, etc. In today's mail I received this

Incredible. Carl Weinert - the king of CHOC! He who rebelled against

Dr. Ponseti's method for so long and as of 1.5 yrs had a 60% cut rate!

He saw 's feet at the hospital and said that one of them had to

get the surgery for sure. It is just hard to believe. I hope he is

going to use Ponseti's method for real. Weinert was using the AFO not

the DBB. WOW! If anybody goes to interview him, please let me know. I

will try calling his office. Last time I called they refused to release

any info to me.

I did see Dr. Weinert today and felt very comfortable with him. He answered all

of our questions including all the ones from the list that this group said I

should ask.

He seemed very dedicated to Dr. Ponseti's non-surgical methods. He also said

he had just been out in October to see Dr. Ponseti and he spoke highly of him.

He also showed us models of the DBB he uses.

I just want to reiterate that we were very happy with our interview with him and

everything he told us about his treatment mirrored what is on Dr. Ponseti's

website. I am a lawyer and I tend to get very particular in my questions but I

felt very satisfied.

Of course, one should make up one's own mind but again, so far I have had a

positive experience with him. I am not due until August but will report then.

Doctors and there are only two who we could choose from. Since

you are telling me that Dr. King is doing a good job we will

try him. I will read the protocol again and hopefully the

treatment is going to be as good as in Iowa.

How old is now? And how long was the treatment with the cast

for her?
