Fay...

I have found the ultimate contraption for long distance driving...It does not

totally take away the pain, but it makes the difference that my back hurts in

3 hours instead of 1/2 hour. It is a seat pad made by Homedics. It has heat

and massage and a lumbar support. It plugs into your cigarette lighter. I

don't use the massage setting because of my brain malformation, the vibration

gives me major headache. But, the heat and support does wonders for me. I

think I paid $20-$30 for this at Macy's, and it made a world of difference.

It never leaves my car now. On the other hand. Don't forget to turn it off

when you turn off the car...LOL It eats your battery. (I left it plugged in

for 3 days!)

I never saw an answer to this Sunny, so I thought I'd jump in.

Fibromyalgia is considered a chronic condition or syndrome, rather than a

disease. I'm not sure what the different criteria is for the

classifications, so I can't explain why it's listed that way :-)

Yup, the more I stop and start, the worse it gets. I've always been

exhausted by traveling whether it's a car, plane or train, but it slowly

got worse over the years to include things like doing errands which it

never use to.

I used to LOVE to travel, or even just drive around for the love of driving

- " sightseeing " - something people don't seem to do anymore. Remember

Sunday afternoon drives when you just drove around the neighborhoods in the

area to see who had put in new landscaping or who was working on their

house?

I still like to go out and do things - now even more since I'm able to

really do stuff, BUT, I pay for it the next day, and sometimes for several

days. Does anyone else have this problem, or is it just a matter of being

exhausted while you're out?

I know what you mean...I always pay for it when I go out and do

something. Doesnt matter if it is to take bus to town or other

things...

Hi,

Lin here, I too hav the same problem. I had my sister in law around

yesterday. Dave my husband cooked dinner and did mostly everything. But

today, I slept till 2 pm and still feel exhausted. I will actually take

about 2-3 days to get over just a family visit. I have just only recently

been diagnosed so I feel happy that I am not actually not going mad and that

there is a name for this condition. Take care :-)

Oh yes! My parents would drag us to the new housing developments and

we'd go through all of the houses, and they'd talk about how the kitchen

should have been moved 3 feet to the left while we rolled our eyes! How

boring!! Then suddenly as an adult, I found my husband and I doing the

same thing (not necessarily on Sundays) and it seemed ever so much more

interesting when we did it. We don't do it very much any more. :-(

Nope, I pay for it the day after too. When on two errands on Saturday

(one involved a drive of about 45 minutes) and was tired on Sunday.

Really should have stayed home, but went out with dh to two stores

anyway. Used the electric scooter at the first one and then a wheelchair

in the second one and still ended up so exhausted, couldn't do much

yesterday.

Have you watched A Baby Story on TLC? Or Birth Day on DHC? I watch those shows

all the time and I can't remember ever seeing a naked woman having a baby. I

know when I had my DS that I was not naked durring labor. I ended up having a

c-sec and to be honest can't remember if they took my clothes off but I don't

think they did. Don't worry. By the way I would recommend watching these shows

they really help to prepare you for what is coming.

Question

This may sound like a really silly question, but we watched the birthing video

in my childbirth classes, and it's got me rather concerned. All or the women

that they showed giving birth were completely naked!! Is this normal to give

birth naked? This is my first child, so it's all new to me, and I realize that

your entire bottom half is going to be exposed for God and everyone and their

brother to see, but I always thought that I'd be wearing a gown that would at

least be covering the top half. I realize that child birth is not time to be

modest, but this just seems a little extreme. I know that there are some nurses

in the group and plenty of women that have given birth before...I'm hoping that

someone can set my mind at ease.

Thanks,

Jodi

In every delivery I've done the mother wears a hospital gown or her

own gown (the latter is much less commmon b/c no one wants to ruin

their new gown with blood!). Don't fret. I'm 99. something % certain

you may wear a gown during delivery.

I was even allowed a gown into the operating room and they just

rolled it way up and scooched it beneath my armpits.

Trust me, if you decide to have a non-medicated delivery you wont care much,

less think about if you have some type of covering or not. My OB's partner

(he was on call when I delivered Kendra) still chuckles whenever he sees me.

I'm the woman that was 'naked as naked could be laboring on a big blue ball'.

Just want to interject as I know several people who

have been on a baby story as well as spoken to the

producers myself...

the producers tell people ahead of time that they will be

required to have a top on.

(and as another side note: a baby story is not exactly

the most accurate thing you will ever see. It is VERY

edited and, in many ways, scripted. Many parts...even

the birth...are very edited.)

Not everyone is naked for delivery...but many people

are. (in fact, I'd say that the VAST majority of

unmedicated moms are. Most medicated moms have

something over their tops at least until baby is

crowning...)

If you want to see a bunch of births, you can visit my

site. All of the birth stories on my site are told in

photographs. (but PLEASE be aware of the graphics

rating scale before viewing any birth!!!)

it isn't the norm...Everyone i know has worn the traditional hospital

gown Including myself. My first birht was a vaginal delivery and I

stayed completely covered until I was ready to push and even then my

Dr. was kind enough to drape my legs and tummy so no one could really

see anything at all.

be honest with the Dr. and nurses about your modesty.

I have heard about this and seen this on birthing videos as well. I

questioned a Lamaz (formerly know as Lamaz to be more politically

correct I suppose) instructor from my first pregnancy about this.

She said that some women feel too restricted during labor to wear

anything and prefer to go completely in the buff. It is definitely

more common to wear a gown of some sort while in labor and

delivery. I had on my tank top that I wore to the hospital and then

eventally they had me put a gown on top of that later on. Most

hospitals are pretty flexible with that sort of thing. I would

recommend touring your hospital's labor/delivery unit to find out

what their standards are and question them about your concerns.

Hope this helps ya out some!
