Thanks, Sue... I will check that area. I have a question about ketosis and

the testing strips. After two days on the induction diet, my strip tested

in the large level (one box before the darkest.) But today it tests in the

small level. I haven't had anything that I am I not supposed to and I have

been drinking lots and lots of water. Is it normal for it to fluctuate or

should I just expect to be in ketosis at the end of the induction diet?

Thanks for your help!

This is a long story, but you asked for it!! :o)

When I was 4 yo I went to get my tonsils out, they took a long time to heal

so my Ped & Mom decided to do a Glucose Tolerance test on me. It was a 3 hour

one and they make you drink the real sweet crap and then every hour they take

blood. I failed I guess miserably and was on insulin for 10 years, but it was

only once a day and it was only 5 unit which is pretty small amout. Then at

14, I had another glucose test and everything came back normal, No one could

explain it and never have, I went off the insulin and started eating and

doing whatever I wanted, The only warning the Dr gave my Mom was that It

would come back when I got preg and when I started getting older. He was

right, in 1996 I went the my OBGYN for the usual pap smear and He wanted to

test my sugar since I was 35 then. It came back with a 287. That was just a

fasting one. I think I kinda knew there was something, I was getting

headaches and crabby, Always thirsty and having to go to the bathroom alot.

Since then I have been on and off meds cause of being preg. Now, on the

Atkins WOL, I have some pretty good readings, like I said 80-110 pretty

consistanly, at times I go up little higher, but thats to be expected with a

diabetic, its not horribly high, like in the 130-140s. the great thing is

that it is not too often any more that I get higher numbers like that!! I am

really thankful!!

Hope this answers your questions and you can tell your Dr about me and the

results I have, Maybe she will change their minds about low-fat!!

Hugs,

Penny

Hi..

My name is , I am 25 years old and just recently married. I started

the Atkins diet a year ago July (with my husband) and I lost 50 pounds and

he lost 30. However, because of the stress of our wedding, and stuff, I put

back on 30. I KNOW this way of life works, I just have to get the gumption.

Anyway, I am 229.5 lbs as of this morning. Ideally I am aiming for 150 lbs.

I just started AGAIN the induction diet this morning. I like to make small

goals, so right now I just want to be 219. I also started exercising last

week (3 times a week) at a local gym, and just quit smoking today.

My motivation? I want to have kids and be active. I find I am lazy because

I know I am not as physically fit as I used to and I get frustrated by my

lack of stamina.

I guess that's it for me!

Penny --

Thanks a lot. That does help. Who knows about my doc; she usually seems

fairly willing to listen to reason, and your example might just help.

Thanks again,

Gail

Hello,

My name is ,,, I started adkins earlier in june.. With much Joy and

jubilation.. To only have it dwindle and die.

I lasted for 5 weeks lost 5 lbs right at the start and eventually gained it

back.. My husband also went on the diet with me he lost

11lbs and says he hasnt gained it back..

We both went off the diet when we went on vacation... We ate everything we

wanted... Which was everything and more,, of what we had been dening

ourselves, I even ate things I normally did not eat before the diet...

I was surprised when I came home from 2 weeks of vacation and got on the

scales... I weighed the same as when we left 230. Which was what I weighed

when I originally began the diet... But since then I do seem to go up a

little more easilier than before...Also I seem to feel bigger in the middle

than during the diet..

I really do want to lose at least 30 lbs to start. I dont know if I can do

it with atkins...

I was having lower back pain before I went off the diet... Which worried me

because I had a total hysterectomy in feb of 99..

None the less I have to do something I am 42 and really dont have a life.. I

hate how I look and find it hard to enjoy the company of others..

thank you

for listening

Dear Ruth,

You have come to the right place. Atkins is a wonderful way of eating (woe).

I'm fairly new to this list but there are ppl here that have the answers to

any questions you might have. You will be amazed at how fast the weight

comes off. Most importantly you'll find that you aren't hungry anymore. I

find that drinking alot of water 64ozs + 8ozs for every 25lbs you want to

lose is key in this way of life (wol). I have alot to lose myself and

finally found a way to do it. Keep posting I'd love to know how your doing.

Hi Ruth..

Welcome aboard...you'll find everyone here great....great support...been on

the diet about 7 weeks and am down 15 lbs...weight loss varies between

everyone....but this woe (way of eating) takes some getting used to...because

we've been told for so long not to eat fat...but I know I have to stay away

from carbs because they only make me eat more..you'll get wonderful support

here and help with anything you need.

For a year, though I didn't lose a thing the first 3 months and I haven't lost

anything in the last 3 months! Isn't that odd?? I think I must have hit a set

point and I'm trying to last through it!

THat is odd as I found the more weight needing to be lost the easier

the first stuff comes off. the last weight is the hardest esp the last

5 or 10 bs!!! I think it has to do with our bodies leveling off to gear

for the next loss. have you had your thyroid checked?

well I admire your sticking to it if you have been following the plan

and staying solong in one spot.. good luck and hope you break your

plateau soon
