Welcome Nellie!

Its too bad that the vacation didnt work out. Many ocd'ers take an

ocd-vacation, since they are out of their environment and dont need to do

many of their rituals.

I wonder if Josh hasnt been able to articulate all the things that are

disturbing to him and that is the reason for his mood swings. Poor guy. We

have tried all kinds of meds, and you may need to try one or a combination

of them to help him feel more in control.

Do you know if he will be doing cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) using

the Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) method? This is the kind of

therapy you want to look for, but dont be discouraged if you dont find it -

it can be a big challenge.

Where do you live? Since we live all over perhaps there is someone on the

list that can help you with local information. We often add our location

after our names to help identify each other.

best of luck,

Have a question for you all about insurance. Medicaid/Medipass specifically.

Do you know (and Im sure this varies by state) if it will pay for CBT?

Thanks for any advice in advance.

Well I got to run.. got alot of things to do before supper time. So talk with

you all soon...

OH ANGELA...Congratulations to Landon!!!! Watch out he will be on all fours

and then pulling up and boom he is gone.. trust me.. I am not sure if I told

anyone Dayton stood by himself for totally 3 seconds then he realized no hands

and he fell to the ground.

Hi Gwydion

I wish I had an answer for you. I have watched my son go through the

same kind of depression you have. It is very difficult for him and me. I

will remember you in my thoughts and hope that all will get better for you.

would like to have friends also but shuns the opportunities to make

them. He is happiest when he can play his organ. and work on computers. I

will pray that you find an interest that can boost your morale. You and

Aisha are so blessed for each other and the good you do for mankind. Just

being there is a great talent, and together you make it awesome.

Love you and sending hugs

I too have no easy answers to resolve your depression. I can look

back at my years of being down and know that unless you've suffered

(a carefully chosen word) or had a partner or friend who suffered

depression you CAN'T know what it's like.

I can remember with horrible clarity the feelings of worthlessness,

despair, guilt - the total lack of motivation - the terrible, gradual

erosion of my love for my wife - the complete lack of joy.

I genuinely feel that if given the chance of a cure for my Parkinsons

which would return me to depression as a side effect I would reject

the cure - better alive with Parkinsons than mentally dead with

depression.

Drugs can help as a temporary holding action but they are not a long

term answer as I'm sure you know.

I can't offer a solution - all I have is my support which you have

unconditionally - if you want to email me feel free any time - my

wife helped me with immeasurable patience and I have absorbed some of

that patience from her - I will never be dismissive of you - I've

been there too and it would repay my wife's love to help you in even

the smallest way.

Depression can be a very serious illness. It is important to find the treatment method that works for you. There are many treatment options. I find that meditation is most helpful for me. Keep looking for the thing or things that help you.

Thank you for everything, "Sis".

I dont know if you see a Psycologist or other mental health people but that was a big deal in helping me to not feel so totally awful that id go out and kill myself. That and meds. The meds certainly dont do it for you long term if you dont do it in combination with some other type of therapy. Least thats IMO :)I'm not much help now am i.

Thanks anne :-)

I'm doing better today - I actually joined a few depression-specific support

groups and have received a ton of email which has lifted my spirits

considerably.

I'm working on a new animation and (as Aisha will tell you) I always do a

lot better when I'm working on something. It's when I sit around and think

too much that I fall into depression.

I will share the animation with you all when it's done.

Take care,

Hi Tammy!

My name is Terry and I have a 6 yo son named Ben who was diagnosed

with OCD back in the Spring. He has been on Zoloft for about 12 weeks

now (50mg now) and, finally, we are seeing the benfits - SSRI's

generally take about 3 months before you see the full benefit of the

meds. We saw mild improvements over the months and he was gradually

increased as his syptoms would flare up. But three weeks ago he was

increased to 50 mg and, for the first time, he (and we!) are enjoying

a rest from the OCD. He is a reassurance seeker, primarily concerned

with electricity, poison and plastic (the last, which was his WORST,

has almost disappeared completely). We also know that this is just a

REST from the OCD and there is/will be a lot of work ahead of us. But

he seems to ask only about 10 - 15 reassurance questions/day now (was

40+/HOUR on a moderate day!) and has mentioned that he has had more

intrusive thoughts that he hasn't bothered asking....just told the

OCD to leave him alone and kept playing (I'm a proud mamma!).

As the list members know, I definitely immersed myself in reading all

about OCD and becoming educated on the topic. It has been SO VALUABLE

to do so, but I have also learned (thanks to the folks here!)how

important it is to come up for air and gain perspective etc. It's

hard to do when someone you love so much is struggling so hard, but I

am learning to relax a little more and Ben's response to the meds has

helped.

Hang in there and welcome!

Oh thanks so much, that makes me feel better. I have a way to go yet but it will be worth it.

The psych asked my son if he had thoughts but he claimed no. I asked him today about that to make sure. All he wanted to do was leave when we were there.

I am ordering a book that Vivian suggested (Thanks Vivian) to start with. Plus I was up late last night reading things on the Internet.

Only kidding, remote desert usually is depopulated, no sheiks, sheikesses,

sultans or sultanas.

I was just making a steamed suet pudding with sultanas that like with

custard, and I won't write what it is called " Pimpled " will do and

read the e- mails I could not resist it.

Good luck on your tour of UK
