Hi Machelle,

Dennis from NH - south east near the coast. Been through Interferon 1 yr &

Interferon/Rebetron 1 yr & was a partial responder. My count went to

undetectable and then bounced back after I went off the med. Had some bad

times with depression during the last part of the med. Am only doing milk

thistle now. Haven't bothered to have my count checked in a year - maybe I

will - but what will it matter?

I have some friends (2 dogs, 3 hens, 1 bunny, 1 big fish). Judy has some

friends (2 cats). Dan, our son has an Iguana and a Piranha (not in the same

cage).

Judy is an artist and teaches reiki. I have a couple of small sailboats and

am into nature, forestry, and wildlife habitat. I work at a prep school

and am in charge of the grounds. I like it but am ready to move to Vermont

and live quietly on some nice land away from cities and all that goes with

them.

We hike and camp when he can and are physically able.

Great group we have here. Glad you joined. Come on up and get some fresh

eggs any time.

Dennis

I'll bet yours doesn't have the intricate rust detail that mine does. We

will be putting a better bed on it this spring. The '87 was a year they had

throttle body injection so it starts REAL nice any time of the year. They

use a lot of salt up here in the winter and it does a number on vehicles.

We as women I'm starting to realize do the most when

it comes to fmailies. Not a slam against men or

anything but its true. I handle the moeny, the meal

planning ( he cooks it) cleaning of the house and

making sure that everyone is happy and healthy. It

hasn't changed to much I guess sometimes. We are aloud

to work but still the expcetation of the children adn

the house falls to us. It a GRRRR time sometimes.

Aint that the truth KAthleen!!

Seems most men don't play an active role in the health of their families I

agree. My dh is lovely, but, he is the same.....willing to go along with

whatever I choose, not bothered with putting much effort into coming to any

decisions though! Typical by the looks of it......

Good suggestion -- Ken is going to rent one of those the first weekend

in March(next w/e I guess!) & clean our carpets ( boy do they

ever need it) usually have it done every other year or 18 months for carpet

warranty(professionally but we missed having it done in 2000 went on a

good vacation instead) 2001 I was virtually sick most of the year--in

& out of hospital and waylaid by viruses that turned into bacterial

infections due to my liver being so poorly that it can't help with any

kind of illness any longer.....but thank God for penicillin or whoever

it was that processed it & made it years ago...it's the only anti-biotic

I can take!

Consider cleaning with steamI have nothing at all to gain by recommending

this to you. There are steamcleaners like for instance

the Steam Buggy where you put in the waterout comes the steam vapor at

around 200 degrees which is better thananti bacterial.

Just a suggestion.

Deb,

I use stevia. It is an herbal sweetener. It is expensive but you only use

a tiny amount. I haven't tried it in cooking yet. You should be able to

find it in any health food store. I did get some that was green once and it

wouldn't disolve so get the white. We also use soy milk.

Hi Debi-

I have the same problems as you- all that you mentioned applies to me even

the sugar(sweets) part! I'm supposed to be on HI fiber Protein diet-- have

never drank coffee- but used to drink lots of Mountain Dew- but I kiccked the

caffeine habit a few years back now if I drink any soda it's caffeine free

but not sugar free & I only drink a can of Mug root beer about 1 or 2 X a

month. but drink about the same amount of water as you...My Doctor has put

me on diuretics(spironolactone- it's easier on liver than lasix) I have to

take 8 pills daily & when I get edema then I have to take 12 daily til it

goes away......I eat lots of fruit for fiber- apples-oranges-grapes-

bananas--plus I'll eat a mini-can of baby peas has 6 grams of fiber & it

usually fills me up as one small meal maybe if I'm extra hungry then I'll

have an orange or apple etc. I eat homemade soups which either I or my

husband makes up from scratch. Or stew with turkey or chicken instead of red

meat- although I can still handle a homemade hamburger made with 4 or 7% fat

which we throw on the grille outside. Thak God Ken's learned to be a good

cook-- & has smartened up about salt. which I barely use due to the

sodium..Sometimes I'll have a can of 's Special Request soup (low in

sodium)...that usually when I'm not feelin' up to par & Ken isn;t home...I

don't eat any bread other than whole wheat- love Orowheat's Winter Wheat

bread!! Today we made clam chowder & had fresh crab to go with it--we drive

to the fish market about 50 mi. from & go on a seafood fest for a couple of

days & usually have a shrimp cocktail while we're at the fresh(twice daily

caught) fish market it's out at the docks in Warrenton OR little fishing

village on the coast has the freshest seafood on the No Oregon coast! Our

little pooch just loves our ventures to the fish market & she is thoroughly

hooked on shrimp & crab.. I know this is strange for a dog & no she isn't

part cat!<g>

Another thing I eat is raisin bran cereal also high in fiber 7 grams for 1/2

cup & in between I'll drink a can or two during the day as it has fiber &

protein & lots of other nutrients that are good for you & it's not costly

either. I eat eggs & hashbrowns about once a month...... baked potaoes or

any kind except for fried are good & have fiber & potassium amts. but I

basically don't eat any full meals anymore as I can't tolerated eating like

most people do--(everything & lots of it)

Broccoli is good for you as are any kind of beans.sometimes I'll just have a

mini can of VanKamp's pork & beans -just eat the beans & not the pork or much

of the tomato sauce it is packed in. When we go out I hit the salad bars &

just eat some of the veggies they have we usually try to go to the buffet

type places, as they have a nice selection of things to eat. I make up oven

-fried chicken sometimes too - the recipe is on the bisquick boxes usually!?

If it's not there let me know as I know the recipe by heart now! Really like

it this way & it's not real greasy either but crisp & so much better than KFC

chicken! I also will eat 's bean with bacon soup has good fiber

there too......I try to stay away from any soy products sfter learning how

bad soy is for your body & internal system!! But I still drink a small amt

on my raisin bran cereal.

Can't think of anything else right off hand I feel like I'm forgetting

something & I'm sure I am.....Oh yes if you like or crave chocolate-- I've

cut way back but will eat Nestle crunch bar or dark chocolate covered

cherries if I just need some of the chocolate!!<g>

Hope this'll help you some I'll probably know more after seeing a

nutritionist(my doctor has referred me to see) in late March. If I learn of

any other good recipes I'll try to remember to post them to the list OK?

Take Care & Hang in there Debi

Dennis -- you all sound a lot like Ken & I our best friends are our dogs Sammi &

Ginger--we used to have horses - but I got so I could no longer do the

upkeep-grooming -riding daily so we traded my last horse for my Chevy silverado

hot rod truck the dealer was taking ANYTHING in trade We got $10,000 trade-in

for my horse-- he was a pure white albino 1/4 horse Pink skin white hair & blue

eyes that would turn a reddish color when he was upset or mad or nervous he was

a very beautiful horse...the dealer's girlfriend kept him for about a year &

then they split up & he wqas sold to a trainer in Hollywood & has been in a few

movies-- he was a very personable horse most of the time but would have his

moments as I let him be a stallion for too long & even after gelding him he was

still very hi-strung in the spring when the mares would come in heat<g>

Dennis -- thank God they don't use any salt up here- we don't get that much snow

either but we do get the icy roads but up here they use gravel to sand the

roads-- so usually you end up having to replace a windshield now & then. so I

don't get the rust instead I get green slime that attaches itself to our

vehicle as we have no garage down here @ the house-- occasionally I'll put my

truck up in the barn about 7-800 feet above our house- it's where we winter our

boat & motorcycles & ATV's

We have a few toys but I don't use them much anymore as my liver can't handle

the jarring effect anymore.. but we still manage to take the boat out on the

Columbia River for Ken to go water skiing & just plain old speed boating.. it's

an older glass ply that has a chevy 6 cyl engine in it & it cruises real good up

& down the river- we also to it up to Lake Merwin(in WA) it's a reservoir & just

huge.. we didn't get to go out but once last year as the water levels were so

low in Columbia (there's is a sand bar running through the middle of River that

is usually 40-50 feet under water but last the river was so low that our depth

finder was sounding off - the level of the water had dropped to a mere 8 feet

needless to say the big ships that ususully go to Portland couldn't even make it

there & things wer having to come in by eitherrail or truck from the coast as

they ships could no cross the bar (entrance to the Columbia R) All of this was

due to our lack rainfall & snow pack in mtns. But it has been raining quite a

bit this fall & winter & snow pack is aplenty & now they're worrying abou

flooding goin on in spring time as a lot of town have already been minorly

flooded out for a few wks @ a time so far..we had major flooding & mudslides in

'96 for months Hiways were closed & people up here were losing their homes to the

mudslides -it's happened to a few places already this year! The floods don't

really affect our house as we're up plenty high enough & we have drain curtains

above our house on the upper propert above us better to be safe than sorry!!
