Heck, I don't have a clue about the rules. I tried but didn't follow

the fine print so never entered officially. But the rewards have been

the same. Go ahead and do BFL and compete against no one but yourself.

You won't need any contest when you look in the mirror and see fat

loss and muscles. Your clothes will feel and look great. You will

have a can do attitude once your BFL success is evident and it will

snowball. You will have strength you never thought you could have.

There is not a jar I cannot open or a bag of dog food I cannot bring

in from the car. And I swear all I've done is BFL for 18 months,

albeit strict BFL. So get busy and I wish you the best of success.

Keep posting!

Thanks Stasia, I do have some instant pictures taken so I might post them

soon... personally I don't see much difference in the pictures BUT I feel the

difference big time!

Don't wait for the packet. You don't actually need it until the end of the 12

weeks. Call EAS, register (I think you still have to give them a start date),

take your pictures and start. Word of advice though. :-) Take the pictures, then

develop the pictures. I mean like the second you're done drive them to a one

hour photo. That way if there's any problem at all you can re-shoot. I think

there's a 3 day window around your start and end dates. So, if something goes

wrong, you could even re-shoot a day or two later.

That's too bad about the first pictures. Don't let it get you down though.

Making progress and feeling great is what's important, the contest thingies are

secondary. Plenty of us never even enter!

update on me

ok... my official pictures are ruined (a relative opened the camera, exposed

the film and there they went down the drain). So I am not able to enter either

my gym's contest nor the BFL challenge. I called EAS and they said they are

going to send me another packet cuz the packet I had is no longer good.....

*sigh* I am hoping to be able to go to the gym this week, I have spent the

last week and a half withouth going to the gym.

question - for those of you that did the contest originally - did you wait for

your packet to take your pictures or did you take your pictures before hand?

Ena.

the lymph node biopsy won't be in until my next appt. which is scheduled for

the 29th of July! He told me the surgery sites looked great, they caught it

early, and that I would do great. However, gloom and doom me, I am soooo

scared about having the cancer spread into the lymph nodes! I've even spoken

to several breast cancer survivors who've told me ALL their nodes were

positive, and they STILL have a good prognosis!

I have days where I cry, days where I'm just plain angry at God, after all,

Thanks to those of you that have sent me cards, Gail, your Stooge Card was

the hit of the day, my kids loved it, of course, I did too.....not bad

drawing either! I just hope and pray that the cancer hasn't spread to lymph

nodes, which would mean having to go into the area AGAIN and remove

them!!!!!!! Then, chemo and rads.

If the nodes are clear, we're looking at no more surgeries, and radiation

treatments which I think I can handle. I just don't have the strength for

any more bad news!

Continue to pray for me, as you all have been doing. I'm not on as much as

before. Suddenly, the problems I had with are soooooo trivial compared

This is wonderful!!!! I'm glad everyone is working WITH you. It makes the

worst situation tolerable. You are going to be okay . I know what you

mean about the kids problems seeming trivial compared to something like this.

Good thing too, because you have enough to deal with, huh? When this is all

over with , you may just find all the problems with much easier to

handle. 12 (((((hugs))))) that everything goes smoothly and is over soon.

I'll make you another card to laugh at soon!

Yes !! I can understand feeling that way!!!! People like to say take

one day at a time, but the reality is (and having OUR kids has shown us well

how to do this) that it's times like these that we need to do one minute at a

time. We are thinking of you and praying for strength for you. Keep us

Seeing him next coming Monday and then I'll know whether it was contained in

that small tumor or spread to any lymph nodes. From there, we'll proceed

with appropriate treatment. Hopefully, no node involvement, just radation

treatments and maybe preventitive med called Tamoxifen.

I am praying for no node involvement. If positive, they would have to go in

AGAIN under the armpit where they originally went to remove nodes for biopsy,

and clean the whole area up. THEN, we're talking chemotherapy before

radiation. I hope it doesn't go that way, but I will do what I must to

survive.

Thanks for asking about me! Hopefully, I'll also have some news on

EKG and echo......WHEW!!

Hi !

Great update -- you are doing so well, CONGRATULATIONS!

The hair loss will stop in a couple of months. It seemed light I lost a lot

of hair, but I am at 8 months now and it has mostly grown back in. I think it

fell out until about six months.

Keep up the good work!

Hugs and blessings, Ann

When I thought my monitor was acting up I had to get the testing solution

direct from Accuchek because none of the pharmacies here carried it.

Don't let it get to you! That's what happened to me 2 years ago - I paid too

much attention to the scale and tried to tweak the program, which of course

led me *off* of it in time.

Just repeat after me: Plateau's are normal and necessary, Plateaus are

normal and necessary.

>I can

> wear a ladies size 16 (Yea, the regular clothes racks!)

Fantastic!!

> I keep going hypo.

Make sure you carry a snack in your purse at all times - something with a

little protein like those whole wheat or cheesy peanut butter crackers or a

little bag of peanuts. If you grab something sweet it'll bring up up fast

but also cause to to drop again just as fast.

> He suggested adjusting my carb

> intake. I am going to ask the dietician next week.

I've been hypo 20 years, and could never let my carbs go too low. My main

poroblem with McDougall is that it's so low in protein and fats that I get

low readings too often, so I have to go just a little off-plan and add some

higher fat foods now and then.

> It was very serious last week. I passed out. I mean totally out!

Thank goodness your son was home and knew what to do. That almost happened

to me twice when Henry was a baby when my hypo was still new and

undiagnosed. I *did* wind up in the ER twice because of it.

>I have been monitoring it and

> trying to eat something as soon as those grouchy/shaky feelings hit.

Just make sure what you eat contains protein and fat as well as a carb. That

will bring the sugar up in a relatively short time and the protein/fat combo

will keep it there for a longer period. It may make it a little harder to

lose weight, but at least it'll keep your blood sugars a bit more stable.

I was

> surprised the day in the yard. I haven't had anything like that, except

> once when I was on insulin. It hit in a matter of seconds.

I used to get these at least twice a month. It took a long time to get it

under control and to this day I *still* have problems with it.

> I am trying to really hit the exercise thing consistently, however,

Make sure you eat something before exercising so your sugars don't crash as

you're burning it up.

I fell

Ouch! Here's hoping it heals soon.

This is the attitude that's going to get you into those size 3's! Keep up

the good work!

And watch your step on stairs. :)

In one of her early messages:

100-plus/message/8952

She mentioned how she just followed the diabetic diet the doctor gave her

and exercised.

So simple (It's what based his food plans on) yet so many of us

ignore it and try everything else under the sun with mixed results.

Cherilyn, I'm assuming you're still just following this diabetic plan? Maybe

you're the one who should be flogging *us* with that limp noodle! :)

Cherilyn,

Omigosh! *I* feel proud of your son! You must have just been bursting with

that peculiar mom emotion we have no english word for. (If there is a word,

I bet only Sue knows it ;). That combination of pride, joy, love and

gratitude that nearly makes you cry.

So many changes for you! How wonderful!

I feel confident you will find answers to your hypoglycemia problem.

So, do you mind sharing how you did it? Food plan? Exercise strategy?

Prayer? Come on, don't hold out on us!

:)

I am doing great, as far as my diet goes! I thought I was having high blood

glucose numbers, but it turned out to be a monitor problem. My numbers are

great now! I have lost a total of 49 lbs, but have been plateaued for almost

2 weeks. That fiftieth pound is driving me CRAZY! However, I HAVE lost

inches recently. I can now fit into my dh's tightest jeans (36x34). I can

wear a ladies size 16 (Yea, the regular clothes racks!) I have inspired at

least 4 women at church to try to live a healthier lifestyle. I am totally

off diabetic medication, but am still taking the zaraxalyn (sp) for fluid.

The only problem I have been having lately, is an odd one. I keep going

hypo. The doc and I don't understand it, because I am med free. I have a

friend who is a nurse, and he said that maybe my metabolism has increased

and my insulin resistance has decreased. He thought that those two factors

might be combining to cause me to bottom out. He suggested adjusting my carb

intake. I am going to ask the dietician next week.

It was very serious last week. I passed out. I mean totally out! I was

mowing in the front yard. My 11 year old found me. He was great. He got

me jelly and put it under my tongue. Then called my doctor and asked for

further instructions. They walked him through it, and then he called my mom

to come and take me to the doc's office. After 3 T of jelly and about 45

minutes, my bg was up to 81. I tried to take it before we left home, but my

monitor was messed up. It is fixed now. I have been monitoring it and

trying to eat something as soon as those grouchy/shaky feelings hit. I was

surprised the day in the yard. I haven't had anything like that, except

once when I was on insulin. It hit in a matter of seconds. I didn't even

have time to make it to the house to eat something

I am trying to really hit the exercise thing consistently, however, I fell

at church this week and got a really nasty smash on the ankle. It grazed all

the hide off and whacked all my weight down on the edge of a concrete stair.

So, for the next few days, I am limited to calisthenics. :o( I sure missed

you ladies last week! I love to hear about your successes, it motivates me

to continue.

Gee, after reading this it doesn't sound like I am dong great at all. But,

I really am. I am having little bumps in life, but I now feel strong enough

to deal with them and move on! After all, life is never perfect, even if

you are a size 3. Having said that, I would still really like to try life

as a size 3! <GBG><JK> If I leave that as it is, someone will probably tell

me that I don't need to be a size 3. I know that! My goal is to be healthy

and feel good about my body. When I get there, where ever it is, I will

stop losing. (A 7 or 9 would be great though!) ;o)

Cherilyn, you don't need to be a size 3!!!! Yes, I'm kidding. :) You are

doing great and your attitude is fantastic. I hope you get the low blood

sugar thing figured out. Other list members might be able to give you some

good suggestions. I hope the ankle heels quickly so you can get back to

exercising.

Thanks for the update Aubyn. Glad you are doing better. Just make sure to put on hi spf sunblock everytimr you go out. I am on the same regimen so i have to avoid the sun as well so i know exactly how you feel. Mind you I am from Turkey (a Mediterranean) and Everyone that knew me was jealous of my tan every summer, because I used to just to get a fantastic tan in two hours. I just recently went to bahamas and boy was that a mistake not to put on sunblock because i suffered for a week afterwards just from itching. When you are Amiodarone you dont realize that you're getting burnt so be careful. Take care. TURK

Update on me

Hi there everyone,

Been a busy week and a bit since I started this new medication for my heart, but thought I should let you all know how I am doing.

OK, I am tired and the first few days, I felt really weird, dizzy, etc, but that seems to have subsidied. I am concerned about the side effect of not being able to handle the sun, I am a sun worshiper as some of you may know. But I am religiously putting on sun screen every day and going to get some BLOC for my face and such.

I have been working ALOT as my co-worker on my floor is off on personal leave for the month of June, and then two weeks vacation in July, so alot of hours coming my way. This is a good thing, as come July and August I may not feel like working so much, with the humidity I am sometimes truly DONE in. Not to mention that we are taking three weeks holidays, so I have managed to switch shifts so I work four days one week and none the next, taking no holidays to do it.

Taegyn is doing well, almost done school and looking forward to the summer months, ME TOO.

Terry is working and also looking forward to summer, he and Taegyn did a weekend project this past weekend while I was at work, they put new back stairs on our house and he is going to also recover the back porch. We used it a lot more this past year during the winter, and now in the summer as well, so it would be nice to have it look half decent.

We are going to start a VACATION fund, with my income tax refund, Terry owes them money but what the heck, the government doesn't need our money, we will send them monthly cheques. Anyway, this fund is hopefully going to grow and we can plan a big trip, not sure to where yet, maybe a cruise, or Disney again, but it is a big step for us as we have never had this before. My working part time has really loosened our belts financially speaking and it is nice to feel a bit less concerned about every dollar.

Anyway, take care everyone and I will try and get on once or twice a week over the summer months to check my emails.

Hi Diane

Welcome back. I'm glad the latest procedure went well and I hope the tube stays in place and doesn't give you too much bother. I'm doing OK, I have an awful lot of noise since the last surgery and I'm stuck with canal ctoma but otherwise I'm doing fine.I am probably due for more surgery but the doctor seems to have adifferent plan every time I see him. At least, my visits there are never dull.

Phil

update on me

Hi, Listies!Bet y'all thought I dropped off the face of the earth. I'm working hard to open the Sassy Suds retail store in my neighborhood and still work part time at my "real" job. :-DLast February, my surgeon decided to install (heehee) a permanent typanostomy tube in my left ear (the uncooperative one).I didn't really want to do this. First, just a whiff of anesthesia gas makes me feel sick to my stomach. I work for a surgeon and have to visit the surgery center or hospital for errands. It's embarassing to walk down the halls gagging. I always get sick with general anesthesia, so it's definitely a smell association. He didn't want to place the tube in the office because of lots of scar tissue, leaving only a small area for tube placement.I also love water and didn't want to have to avoid it. We have a pool, jacuzzi, I live in Southern California and like to take lots of baths and showers, too. I make bath and body products for a living and have to test them, of course! ;-DThe actual procedure was a breeze and I was in and out, including recovery time, in about two hours. I was dizzier than usual for a couple of days. The drainage was really heavy for about a month. I had felt a lot of pressure and fullness in my ear previously and it made me worry that I had a recurrence of c-toma. Fortunately, it was just clean fluid behind the eardrum. The water avoidance thing hasn't been as bad as I'd feared. I have custom plugs (Aqua-Nots) and they've been pretty effective.Unfortunately, the negative pressure inside my ear is still there, even with the t-tube. It's sucking the tube inside my eardrum. I have to keep going back for follow up every month. If it gets worse, I'll have to have it replaced again. My body doesn't like the foreign body and I've been getting chronic (but minor) infections. I'm on antibiotic ear drops twice a week. How is everyone else doing? Phil, we haven't gotten an update from you in a while...-- Diane Brunethttp://www.sassysuds.com

Hi CZ,

My you have been busy... Glad that you went back to the Dr. you like... Sorry you had to give up all your animals... Glad that you like your new roomate...

Keep us posted as to what you find out about your tests, OK???

((( Caring Hugs )))

Helen

hi everybody. i live in the city again now. the doctor in the country was an idiot and he made me take some pills that made me feel like i was loosing my mind. i was hearing people talking when nobody was there. i thought it was the pills because i never got anything like that before so i stopped taking them and i came back to the city to see my old doctor. i dont have heaps of pets now i just have my 2 dogs and 1 bird. i share house in a rented house with a friend that i met back in the start of 2002. i thought i would hate sharing but it is not bad at all. he is tidy and doesn't like mess and he goes to work every day so i do the housework because i am at home on my own. my housemate has a bird too but it doesn't like me. i think it is the first bird i ever tried to make friends with that never would like me. i bred it and hand fed from when it was a few days old so i thought it would be nicer but i guess it doesn't remember me. the housework is okay for me because i do it every day and it doesn't build up into something too hard to do. my health is okay at the moment. it's not perfect but it never has been. i had a blood test on friday and i really hate needles. i have to see the doctor on wednesday to find out what the blood test says. it was a test on my liver and kidneys and thiroid. i better go and stop writing because i still have to feed the dogs and do training with them before it gets too late.CZ

May today there be peace within you.May you trust God that you are exactly where you are meant to be. "I believe that friends are quiet angels who lift us to our feet when our wings have trouble remembering how to fly." Even Angels Need Bear Hugsangelbear1129@...

i find out about the tests tomorrow. today i had a job interview this morning and i got the job. it's not a people job so i should be able to do it. it's factory work packing things and it's not set hours every week. they will call me when they need me so it might be every day one week and then only one or two days the next week. i am glad i got this because even if it is low pay it still is better than nothing. i have been trying to sell some things i make on ebay but i only just started so i don't know if it will be good or not yet.CZ

May today there be peace within you.May you trust God that you are exactly where you are meant to be. "I believe that friends are quiet angels who lift us to our feet when our wings have trouble remembering how to fly." Even Angels Need Bear Hugsangelbear1129@...

Yikes! Do you remember the name of the medicine?

That was such a horrible reaction!

-- update on me

hi everybody. i live in the city again now. the doctor in the country

was an idiot and he made me take some pills that made me feel like i was

loosing my mind. i was hearing people talking when nobody was there. i

thought it was the pills because i never got anything like that before

so i stopped taking them and i came back to the city to see my old

doctor. i dont have heaps of pets now i just have my 2 dogs and 1 bird.

i share house in a rented house with a friend that i met back in the

start of 2002. i thought i would hate sharing but it is not bad at all.

he is tidy and doesn't like mess and he goes to work every day so i do

the housework because i am at home on my own. my housemate has a bird

too but it doesn't like me. i think it is the first bird i ever tried to

make friends with that never would like me. i bred it and hand fed from

when it was a few days old so i thought it would be nicer but i guess it

doesn't remember me. the housework is okay for me because i do it every

day and it doesn't build up into something too hard to do. my health is

okay at the moment. it's not perfect but it never has been. i had a

blood test on friday and i really hate needles. i have to see the doctor

on wednesday to find out what the blood test says. it was a test on my

liver and kidneys and thiroid. i better go and stop writing because i

still have to feed the dogs and do training with them before it gets too

late.
