Guest guest
Hi everyone, Just wanted to know if anyone has purposely exposed their children to chicken pox. What do you do if your child is in school? I had the worst case as a child, and was absolutely miserable for at least 2 weeks. Another thing I worry about, is my husband contracting it because he had such a mild case as a child. Would he get shingles? Thanks, Jen ----- Original Message ----
Guest guest
They're not tiny for CP, although they can vary in size. They eventually look like blisters and cause a lot of itching. If you really think it's CP, I would have some homeopathic Rhus Tox on hand. It works wonders for my kids for CP and poison ivy. Guest guest
I think the fact the Merck now markets a shingles vaccine speaks volumes on this topic, that yes, it really has been pushed onto the adult population. Here's an article I enjoyed on the subject. http://tinyurl.com/5sm28d Bronwyn Wife to Kurt since 5/02 Mom to: Dorian (7/04) Faith (2/06) Quinn (4/08) and my faithful steed Teo (4/91) since 9/
Guest guest
My dad made a paste of Borax? and put it on the spots. Worked great. Don't know if melaleuca oil or Lavender oil would work as well. Guest guest
I totally forgot to mention oatmeal. It's awesome. Get an old sock or knee high. Put regular oats in it or quick oats just not the instant from packets. Put in tub with warm water. The oats get all slimy, mushy and creamy feeling. Let child play in warm/tepid water with the oatmeal sock. Rub oatmeal sock all over child. When child is done stand in tub without water and rub oatmeal sock all over child like it's lotion. Let it dry on their skin. You might even be able to save it in a container/ziplock bag put in fridge and reuse. Probably run warm water over it first. This slimy sock worked great for my kids and we had lots on hand. Don't worry if your child looks a little pasty ;o) I also give extra vitamins and real juices during this time and eliminate sugars and white flours. When spots start crusting over try rubbing down with good Olive oil. Virgin Olive oil is awesome. I didn't know this but if a child is sick and not wanting to eat you can rub them down with virgin olive oil and it's good for them and helps give them nutrition. Of course you want to get fluids in them. I had a sick child and gave her a warm bath and than rubbed her down in garlic oil made from olive oil. She smelled so yummy LOL. She had a fever about 104. The next day she was doing great. I wished you live near me. I have 2 kids that need to get CP over with. Wished there was a way to send it through the mail LOL. Guest guest
thanks for the tips. didn't know that about olive oil. will keep that in mind. still not 100% sure he has them. the spots seem to be changing color (turning white). i guess time will tell. i've been worried about fluids since he doesn't really want to drink a lot of water but he's been nursing A LOT. he seems ok. think the fever broke a little while ago. now we wait i guess. thanks again! dina > > I totally forgot to mention oatmeal. Guest guest
I would arrange a play-date! My husband and I did WAY back when our now 18 year old was about 2. We had friends with 2 sons and our hope was that all 3 boys would get them at the same time and between the 4 parents, maybe someone wouldn't have to take time off work. What's that saying about the best laid plans? One of the 2 brothers got them, 2 weeks later our son got them then 2 weeks after that the second of the two brothers got them! But they had them. Good Luck. Lori On Jan 24, 2009, at 1:50 PM, Moran wrote: > > Hi. > My friend just announced his daughter has chicken pox (he wrote it > on his facebook page!). Guest guest
No, natural immunity is best (play dates are great because you want your child to contract it naturally and at a young age)....however, with the scary child protective services cracking down on people, it is best to email your friend privately. Don't post anything that could come back to haunt you. Just my opinion. > > > Hi. > My friend just announced his daughter has chicken pox (he wrote it on his facebook page!). Guest guest
I agree, I'd ask if your kiddo could go over TODAY - or invite them to your house if they are feeling a bit shut-in. Guest guest
My 2 had chicken pox when they were 2 and 3 years old. I didn't take them to the pediatrician at the time (although we were completely immersed in the medical industry at that time, but it was before the CP vax AND before my realization of the dangers of allopathic medicine). I DID take pictures of them both for proof that they DID indeed have CP. There was no disputing it, as they each had several HUNDRED pox. We did oatmeal baths and sadly at that time Benadryl and Tylenol. I would only use homeopathy if I had to do it all over again. Kay -----Original Message----- On Behalf Of sbailey I think my 25 month old has chicken pox. Is this something that I need to report? We don't really have a pediatrician. Any recommendations on treatment? I'm a little worried, but I keep telling myself that this is not a bad thing necessarily. Should I expect my other 4 to come down with it? We are the black sheep amongst our neighbors and friends regarding vaccinations, so part of me doesn't want to tell anyone and just lay low for a few weeks (something I can easily do). However, the other part of me wonders if that is irresponsible. ANy recommendations?
Guest guest
IMO congratulations! We may be getting it soon also ()at least I hope-hubby has shingles right this moment! Have your little one drink from same cup/straw, and be close contact w/your 25month old...I feel it would be ok for your 4yr old to get now also. Some announce it in their small circle of non-vax groups and have chickenpox " parties " ..it is up to you to do this OR lay low. Please keep us informed how it goes! Guest guest
Sheri had a FAB post here on homeopathic treatment for chickenpox-maybe you can search-it was less than a month ago-here on this group. btw-wanted to also add: no need to super announce to peds that you have it-esp if you don't have a ped. and are not on a good relationship. Guest guest
No, you don't have to report anything. I took pictures of mine, too, but the ped never asked to see them, just took my word for it they got it. I used homeopathic meds for the itching and had no trouble whatsoever. Guest guest
How about fifth disease (parvovirus). My 18mo old just had this. She developed a high fever - 103 at it's highest, with minor cold symptoms, runny nose stuff, lethargic, loose BM's. Once the fever broke, she developed " the rash " . It started up by her face, neck and ears and over the next few days progressed down the rest of her body. Once the rash shows up though, the virus is considered not contagious and done. The rash wasn't raised or itchy though - you don't mention anything about the rash. There are plenty of pictures on the net of the rash if you want to check them out. I never took her to the dr. She is not vaxed. Her brothers had it when they were younger too, so I kind of knew what it was once I saw the rash. Good luck. Elli in NJ > > I think my 25 month old has chicken pox. Guest guest
Thanks everyone for your input/insight/suggestions. I tend to let my mind worry and 2nd guess my instinct. It is nice to hear calm, reassuring voices! I will be using the homeopathics, looking up 5ths, and the oatmeal baths. I am excited about the chicken pox now - now I just hope it really IS chicken pox. It looked like what I saw on the web - but just not all over his body. Thanks again! Guest guest
Hi, All my 6 kids have just gotten over this last month. I had 1 get it first and then the other 5 all at once. While I'm glad they got it it was a little challenging with them all sick especially since I'm expecting baby #7 this summer. I didn't bring them to the doctor at all. I knew what it was . I just had to notify the school because obviously they couldn't go for about 1 week or 2. I did help them with baths and used homeopathy when needed. They were fine. Although my oldest two (9 year old twins)did have it really bad. By the way by when my youngest got it he had the mildest case and he was 21 mo. old. So I'm sure your little one will be ok. Good luck! Debbie
Guest guest
Check here for the state law: http://www.mass.gov/legis/laws/mgl/76-15.htm It's interesting--I don't see where they actually state the child is excluded if there is a disease going around. And I think that " going around " is not the same thing as an " epidemic of disease declared by the department of public health " per the above link. Wouldn't the disease have to be confirmed at the particular school your child goes too, anyway? Not that the law states that, either, but you'd think there would have to be some geographical limit. Guest guest
Most schools have that right by law - they think they are protecting the child, I guess http://www.vaccinechoice.org/index.php/site/C9/ NOTE: While religious and medical exemptions are honored in Massachusetts, school officials retain the authority to exclude unvaccinated students from school for a period of time following the positive identification of a case of a vaccinated disease. Visit <http://www.mass.gov/dph/cdc/epii/imm/school_req/vaccine_exclusion_guidelines_sc\ hool.pdf>the MDPH site for a schedule of exclusion periods. Guest guest
You need to check your state law. In my state they have the lequal right to keep out during outbreaks. I would be very curious. I would talk to the school personal. Ask how many kids have confirmed cases and how many were vaccinated. Also do they just say " outbreak " go home or is their a document that they give to the parent. That document would give some insight. See if your sister will do her own investigation.
