---I've known a lot of kids get it under 1, they dont understand it

but have come through it seemingly the same as older kids. Remember

just cause theyre exposed doesnt mean theyd develop it anyway.

My vaccinated son had chicken pox (he wasn't vaccinated for that) and he had

a very hard time with them. His fever was higher than his friends who were

never vaccinated and he had quite a few more pox than all of them, probably

put together!

OTOH, our doctor thought that our then 2 year old had chicken pox, it was so

mild that she wasn't 100% sure. He had a few spots on his head and face,

one on his chest and one on his groin. It didn't seem to bother him at all,

if that is what it was. He is just healthier all around.

Anyone know why after 5 months my 12 year old still has some visual signs of

pox left? He went swimming the other day and was surprised at all I saw. I

didn't think they would be around this long. My younger son's were gone in two

weeks, with one or two scars, the 12 year old you can see lots that are left.

Just wondering if there was anyone with suggestions other than, find a

homeopath, for it.

They are still slightly red and raised. Like a scar but raised, like they could

reinfect at any time. My 8 year old has 2 raised ones but they are ones he

scratched and scared. The 12 year old has a lot left, all over front and back.

Didn't think people had that many scars from chicken pox left over.

Do they look infected or just like a new scar that's still in the healing

stages? Does he generally scar more than your other children?

Like a new scar in healing stages, but it has been 5 months today and

normally he doesn't take this long to heal. So just wondering why it is

taking so long.

Perhaps being in the sun made the new scars appear to stand out more. ???

Maybe the areas got a little sun burned? Just a stab in the dark.

If they start to turn into blisters within a day after getting the spots

then I would safely assume they were pox instead of mosquito bites. That's

how I could tell my second daughter had gotten them along with my first.

She only had about 6 spots but they did the tell tale blister filled with

water that burst and scabbed over eventually.

Good luck. Don't forget to check out Sheri's section on homeopathy and

chickenpox (or I can send it to you) if they are suffering. Lots of oatmeal

filled socks in the bath worked with my kids.

DANG!! I am too busy to drive that far for coffee! My 2yo dd's the only one

that needs to be

exposed but as she is still not over whatever she's dealing with, wouldn't

want to

If someone at the School has been to the School with Chicken Pox. Then

Hunter may already have been exposed. I would call her doctor to inform them and

see what to do. I have been wondering about this year since Feb and Mar are

the months to catch CHicken Pox. ( What I been told). My Sister asked me about

Shingles last weekend since there has been several come into the Dr office

where she works. I told her lets cross our fingers on it. got Chicken

Pox

from her grand dad. He was exposed to Chicken Pox at a Transmission shop. He

had already had chicken pox as a child. So the Doctor said that Chicken Pox

lays door mat and if reexposed as a Adult it's called Shingles. Well did

good with hers/ I would call the Doctor.

Chicken pox and methotrexate are not a good combination. I'd check with your

medical team and follow their advice. They'll likely have several questions

for you~~ Does Hunter interact with this child? Are there siblings in

Hunter's class? Get as much info as you can and then call your docs.

Here's what happened to us.

Last December (right before Christmas thankyouverymuch) my stepson

came home from school with Chickenpox. (that the school hadn't

notified us that it was going around when they are meant to, is

another story)

We immediately had to Quarantine in his room, and also

immediately had to take Bayly to the hospital to get a vaccine.

He had the Zoster Immunoglobulin Vaccine- ZIG- which is made up from

human antiodies through donated blood. It was meant to kind of

protect him against getting chickenpox as our Paed Rheumy had told

us it would be dangerous for Bayly to get that. Even baby Violet

had to get the Chickenpox immunisation, to prevent her getting it

and increasing the exposure in our house.

Well, New Year's Eve, Bayly breaks out in spots. Straight off to

the doctor, again, straight off Methotrexate (he has oral tabs) and

big watch on his health. Fortunately, the ZIG actually seems to

have prevented a major breakout, as he only had about a dozen spots

and the duration of the illness was shorter.

We then played 'catch up' with his Mtx, taking a dose, and then

another each 6 days 'til we got back on the weekly track.

And when someone at Bay's pre school got some bug, we kept Bayly at

home just to be sure (pity we still have to pay for the day he was

absent).

Does this help? Or is my sleep deprivation making me rave

incomprehensibly? Bayly is off his Mtx again with a terrible

cold/flu (which he did so thoughtfully share with his little sis

this time)

This is a great question.

With the chicken pox, have your kids been vaccinated for chicken pox before JRA

therapies are started? Has there been documented cases of JRA kids with severe

chicken pox after vaccination?

Is worry with the MTX and chicken pox a more severe reaction? vs. prednisone or

the immunomodulators? I want to make sure there is something else I am missing?

My son is 4 and is going to miss his MMR booster indefinitely due to prednisone

and MTX. I just cross my fingers no exposure. He is in group day care since the

age of 18 months and I know there are risks but I feel I should not put him in a

bubble.

Any precautions for communicable disease I should be taking? ex. Flu shot (

which we do) or other things preventative steps to take.

With the Chicken Pox Vaccine shot. My 13 month old Niece took it last

month. I was told not to let change her Diapers and be right in her

face for 10 days. never had the Vaccine but had the Chicken Pox.

I take precautions either way. With each of the Baby shot's my Niece

get's I always ask questions. Even though I have went through this with my own

kid's and brothers and sisters. You never know what NEW news that come out.

and Jackie are close as sisters would be. I would ask the doctor about

any

concerns and also this group. The MMR shot was allergic to. Since

Jackie is taking these shot's I also inform the Doctor about the family history

of

this. If your child attends school I would be informing them to let you know

when anything comes into the school that they know about.

Sandi,

When had them right before the end of the school year, her doctor put

her on Acyclovir and pulled her out of school for the last few days.. She

didn['t have a bad batch and got over them rather quickly. At this time she

was only taking Naproxen though...

I had 2 children who had CP twice...my oldest had a round or 2 of the MMR as

she was temporarily under the care of my parents and they are crap. My ds

had no vaxxes but I cannot recall if I suppressed with benadryl or steroid

creams or what. The second time round did the trick as the 3rd time we had

CP at our house to play they did not show any signs.

I have heard of other kids getting them more than ones but only the ones

that had all the usual vaccinations. I wonder if this makes their immune

system weaker so they cannot get a strong enough immune response to develop

strong antibodies or if it is to do with the fact that the parents of those

children suppressed the symptoms with fever medicine and other drugs.

From what I hear, it was initially created because more women were

entering the work force. " Big Business " requested it so moms would

not have to miss work. Pretty sick if you ask me, but does not

surprise me, its all about profit.

There's not a lot you can do really. If you know he has been exposed then

he obviously is just not susceptible. It doesn't mean he won't get it in

the future, but there's no guarantee that he will either. Maybe he's just

naturally immune. ) Has he had any other *childhood* illnesses?

situation.

If the child has had close contact with someone that has the chicken pox you

need to talk to the ped rheumy not the nurse.This is very important,especialy

with the meds MTX and Enbrel.

Your ped rheumy may take a wait and see aproach or may want to start oral

anti virals to be cautious.If your daughter does actualy come down with it you

are looking at hospitilization with IV anti virals.

I hope your scare is over soon.

I talked to the ped rheumy and she said that Kendra should have her outbreak

by Thursday, if it's truly chicken pox.

She also said she'd be in contact with our reg. dr about meds should this

happen. She acted like it would be an oral pill.

The nurse on the other hand had acted like hospitalization with an IV. Not

sure if it's the distance to our rheumy or what exactly.

Kendra was in VERY close contact with the boy who had the chicken pox. He

sat in front of her and they graded each others papers,

and used the water fountain after him. UGH!! I realize the school can't

control when kids come to school sick, but I wish parents would keep

their kids home when they have a fever! He went to school 2 days in a row

with a fever-his mother told our school nurse. The kicker of all this is,

his

dad is a Nurse Practitioner!! Thanks for listening!! And the help!

My daughter had the chicken pox vaccine when she was a toddler and

she got chicken pox when she was 7. The case was very mild. Just

around 10-15 pox.

It is much more likely to have a light case of chicken pox if you

have had the vaccine.

My daughter didn't have jra at the time..at least we don't know if

she did. She had her first major flare just 2 months after getting

chicken pox.

Keep a watch..if you see any signs of pox give your doc a call.

I have called the DR and she said to keep a close eye on Kendra. Which of

course I do even without anything to watch for.

Kendra is itchy all over, can't straighten her one leg, headache, and joint

pain, lots of joint pain. I am watching for the outbreak

of the chicken pox. The dr said she should break out by Thursday if it is

the chicken pox. So I am staying home from work and

patiently waiting to see what happens with her. She can't take her enbrel

or metho due to this and I am assuming that is part of her

joint pain. I hate to see her hurting so much!! Last night she cried she

was in so much pain. She's a tough kid, she NEVER cries

about her pain!! That killed me!!!

I will keep everyone posted! Thanks for all the replies. It's nice to know I

have somewhere to go with my concerns and feelings!!

got the Chicken Pox from her Grandpa who had Shingles. I do not

know about the Chicken Pox vaccine though since never got it.

It could be a flare coming on or it could be Chicken Pox. I would call

your Dr and let them know. As you need to keep on top of this. Let us know
