Sara,

I think that would be a great resource! NY has the waiver, but I had to

find this out the long hard way. It took over three years before anyone told

me that Seth could be on a waiver. I sure hope a response comes in from

every state so it can help anyone who doesn't know. Heaven knows most

agencies don't know or don't volunteer any information like this. Seems you

have to know what to get, or you go without. Great idea!

I will let you know just how easy or hard the Medicaid waiver is to get

as I have just requested the forms from our Regional Center person. She

didn't seem to

think there would be a problem. She did say it was a mountain of

paperwork, but thought Tanner would qualify (we're in CA, the waiver is

based on child's income). I don't know that we'll ever use it, but I

want to have it for backup.

She did say Tanner would need a " billable service " to qualify. This

could be camp, respite services, or medical supplies

Glenn,

I think that is what our service coordinator called what Seth is on. I will

ask her next time I see her. Everything you explained, is what she

explained. I just say Medicaid, but there is probably much more too it than

that, I'm sure. I know that they have been a great help and I am certainly

glad I found it! Also, like you said, it took a long time a lots of digging.

We are now BLESSED with a great service coordinator that is on top of things

and does all the research for me. Hurrah!!!!!!

That is exactly what our son is on. The HBCS waiver also has an equipment

budget available and even pays a portion of our sons summer camp(this is

based on the money that is not being used for Residential Habilitation- in

home services). We receive 15 hours per week in Residential Habilitation to

address our sons daily living skills as well as implementing his in home ABA

program.

Where in New York are you located?

Thanks for the wonderful web sites!

I don't know about voluntarily paying, but I do know that they can't bill you if

you are on Medicaid. I had a run in when had heart surgery. The xray

place said they did an xray in bed (which I don't remember them doing and I was

there the whole time, but that's another story), my primary insurance provider

(Champus through the Navy - we were divorced at the time) said it was a

duplicate of services and refused to pay. They tried to get me to go through

Champus to make them pay, and I wouldn't so they started billing me. I sent in

's medicaid number three times and they kept billing me. They finally sent

me to a collection agency (over $30!), and when he wrote I told them the same

thing and told them if they wanted 's medicaid number to ask the secretary,

because I had already given it to her 3 times. I never heard from them again.

Sorry for rambling, school is not going well today, and I guess I'm practicing a

little avoidance behavior of my own. It took AN HOUR to write 3 sets of

cc's (cursive) and 3 sets of ca good enough for me to accept (in the lines and

legible).

Yes, when we were making the appt for JJ psych he did not take CHAMPUS or

MediCal. For the same reason your sited, and this is CA. The way we got

around it was CHAMPUS is our primary so it worked out for us. It soulds

crazy-a dr. won't take cold hard cash.

Some people we know have gotten around this by just saying that they have no

insurance. I wouldnt do that but....

That's ridiculous! You can go to whoever you want to as long as they TAKE

I do know that it works that way for those with medicare. If a doc does

not accept medicare, and you go anyway and pay cash, THEY can loose big

time.

When you ask for " help " it is sad, but many times the help you get is not

what you think.

It sucks.

I am all for doing that.

Does anyone know about going to another state and paying cash - what are

the rules then? Jen's doc is in ND, and I have no problem paying him.

No. The crappy insurance (cheapest we found) at school runs +$200 month

for just Mark and I, so we dropped it after we found out that we qualified

for the compete medicaid.

I am worried now about losing my doc in ND. I drive Jen to see him once a

year, but they are not an " Iowa " provider. Although they try to submit it,

I don't think they will go though the paperwork to become one. My other

daughter and I went there a few weeks ago when we were in ND for a wedding

and both thought we had strep. I gave them her card, and they didn't

blink. This is the first time we used medicaid there (had other insurance

before). I just don't think the people accepting the cards realize the

state-to-state issues. Anyway, I hope they don't figue it out before

August, and say I can't see him. I am willing to pay to see a good doc -

that's what Jen's SSI is for.

if you are in iowa, the best places one can go especially with medicaid is

UIHC, they will even pick you and your child up per van since she has

medcaid, weve been going there for a good 8.5 years now and have little3

complaints, other than a few minor changes, we also have BCBS and since

nathan has the mr waiver he quaalifies for medcaid too, they usually go

through insurance first then medacaid, and the hospital has everything one

needs, from a complete ds clinic to dentists and oto, opt, cardio, psych, oh

they have a wonderful biobehavioral management team there, i could go on

they cover everything and are a medcaid university hospital, they have

helped us and ofcourse nathan many times. there are still few probs i have

with the place but they are minor to the care they have and still do provide

for nathan. shawna.

Dora,

As you know that the Medicaid doesn't always pay the Cochlear Implant,

but I was one of the forunately to get it covered 20% as well as

my primary insurance, Medicare paid 80%. I had to fight with IHC Access

on the Mediciad program for one year with help from Disability Law

Center in Salt Lake City. They have been extremely helpful. However,

Until May 2002, I discovered that I have Medicare that I was told

from my phyisican's office that I thanked them for informing me. If

I hadn't know therefore I will have a long battle over it then right

after, I called the DLC and urged them to try to negoitate with Medicaid to see

if they can pay 20% then we won the case. It didn't

happened until October 25, 2002 then I was scheduled for CI surgrey

two weeks later. What's a great blessings.

Battling with insurances can be pain of neck, but it's worth to

fight it.

Medicaid paid for all of mine. I thought it was a law. I have been told they

can not turn it down. My doctor did all the paper work so I don't know for

sure. Just that it was all paid for.

As far as I know, Medicaid will pay for 1 speech and 1 OT segment per week. If your child needs more, you have to get special permission...more forms to fill out, but provider does that. If you give the school permission to bill Medicaid, it will not affect the amount of services you get privately. They've changed that part. good luck!

Jim:

The Parent to Parent web site has a

great description of the Medicaid programs on the " Roadmap to Services "

section. Maybe the answers to your questions can be found there.

I do know that I have been told NOT to provide my child's Medicaid

information to his school. They have their own funds to pay for your

child's needs, and I don't think you're required to give it to them.

I am not sure where you

got this information but Medicaid does not just pay for 1 and 1. I had 4 ST’s

per week for a year then 3 and now 2 respectively. OT was 3 then 2 then 1 as well. It is based on need for one. I was told by a BCW person that Medicaid

paid for 10 ST’s per month back in 2001. Now they have switched out to shorter segments (30 minutes instead of 45”) that was not

smart since the ST’s can now book 2 patients

per hour (and noone ever even gets their full 30

minutes) and it ends up costing Medicaid more. I am not at all sure who is running the

administrative office there. I was

called by my daughter’s case worker to ask for more information and she

said on the answering machine she does not even have a number to call to

question what “they” want.

Hello,

Now that we have killed enough trees for the forms and copies we needed to

get approved for the Deeming Waiver, how in the world do you use the system?

We have found Medicaid therapy provider but we are really confused about

limits. Case worker from DFACS says " we only qualify candidates,

don't know

about billing " . Provider says 2 OT and 1 speech segment a

week.

Provider's billing agent says opposite, 2 SP and 1 OT per week (without

prior written preapproval). School sends us a form says " we want to

tap

into some of that Medicaid too " . Provider freaks out and says

" but we won't

get paid " !

Hi,

Medicaid does not usually pay for the MGB.

;-(

In the past we just turned those people away to other surgeons and other

surgery.

We have been trying to come up with solutions for this issue.

For patients that can't have the MGB (the best), but do have insurance

coverage for an RNY

We do offer an RNY using the skills we have learned from the MGB.

We don't like it much, but feel that our experience with ~3,000 patients

make us as good or better choice than other RNY surgeons.

(See for example, the state of Washington's 2/100 30 day death rates after

RNY...)

Sorry.

DrR

Medicaid

Is anyone aware of anyone having this type of surgery and Medicaid paying

for it? I have a client who is on disabiity and wishes to have this surgery

and the only way she can do it is if Medicaid pays. Thanks for any info you

can provide.

Hi Ellen, If you can keep your "adult child" on yours or your husbands health insurance, would you need this? My son is under my insurance with Medicare 2nd and Medicaid 3rd. Can I keep it this way, I pay a higher premium, but the coverage is good. Kayellenbronfeld <egskb@...> wrote: There is also a new program called HBWD, Health Benefits for Workers with Disabilities.
