Hi ,

I have been working in interventional cardiology as a nurse tech for

one year. They hired me on after graduation and I'm staying there. I

love it. Its an inner city hospital in Detroit so we see multiple

populations. My hospital is also known for its cardiac system (ie

Bypass, cath lab, eps/pacers etc). It's really exciting!

You said you're a nurse too, what area do you work in?

Congrats ! Wow, a heck of a week for you!

As for the mucosa, that will sometimes tear along with the LES. If Vaezi wasn't concerned and you're not bleeding or running a fever, I wouldn't worry about it.

Deb

I didn't mention this earlier because I didn't want to jinx myself, but on June 7 I took the NCLEX-State Boards for nursing. Then the next day June 8th (yesterday) was the day I was dilaized at TCC. It just ended up working out that way, I didn't schedule it like that. So I was a nervous wrek tuesdsay and yesterday for my dilation. Well, I found out this morning at 1030am that I passed and I'm now an RN!!! I can't believe it!Anyways, I'm still really sore when I swallow food. I can tell when it hits the LES because theres an ache across my lower rib cage. I also noticed on the procedure report that there was a mucosal tear. I thought this was supposed to tear the LES muscle? Dr Vazei didn't mention it afterwards so I assume its not anything to worry about. I know the mucosal linning heals pretty fast. So I think I'll be on a cream of wheat diet and water for a day or 2.But still, what a relief...on both parts! in Michigan... now a Registered Nurse!!:)

C O N G R A T U L A T I O N S A M A N D A ! ! !

I am so happy for you. Hopefully the great news of your new RN

status will help you with your recovery. Just don't push yourself,

take it easy.

I have a daughter with 2 sons, (8 and 11) who is working towards her

nursing degree too. She has been doing it part time, so it is taking

longer, but she should graduate in a little under a year. I am so

proud of her. She is doing it all.

Enjoy this moment! Another thing, now you understand the patients

part of the situation ... such as not being told what to expect ... and

I believe it will make you a better and more compasionate nurse.

Kathie,

Thank you so much! That's great to hear your daughter is going to be a

nurse! It's such a wonderful feild to go into- salary is awesome,

hours are flexible and the experience is priceless! Nursing is such an

empowering profession for women because of things like autonomy in the

workplace and care giving to others. Oh, but it's hard work too!

My mother also went to nursing school when I was in grade school and my

brother was about 4. School is challenging and adding a family is even

more difficult. Going part time was a good idea.

I definilty know what it's like to be in the patients shoes going

through this whole experience of Achalasia and making choices about

treatment. I always make sure my patients' questions are answered and

they know what there plan of care is. This is important in there

treatment, for comfort and to make goals!

As for my recovery, its going so much better now! I'm eating solid

foods and I'm drinking fliuds without getting that full feeling after

every swallow!! It's actually draining quick!!! This is so exciting

to me!

Thanks for the support!!!

Hi Lee,

what a wonderful achievement! It's wonderful to hear you are doing well with

the implant and keep improving. I wish you many more happy milestones and

thorough enjoyment with the implant

Bad me, I stupidity didn't think about make/model the phone ............

will ask the phone owner next Saturday.

Bonnie, Great going! I cant even think of breaking a jog! LOL Walking is my limit! Don't beat yourself up over having the pretzels. It would have been nice if you could have had a handful and then quit. But I'm like you if I don't eat in a certain period of time I get weak and as nervous as a cat in a room full of rocking chairs. LOL I'm afraid I'm not doing as good on my exercise and journaling. I havent been doing my exercise and I also havent been journaling recently. I am still trying to eat sparily though. I havent been counting the calories but I know I'm still trying to eat smaller portions. And I think it is working ok cause my scales reading has been moving downward or staying steady and not up.I keep saying I have to get back on track and start doing better on exercise and calorie counting again.Things here has been kinda hectic lately and I have just gotten off track. I know thats just a excuse because I think I could find the time if I tried hard enough. Glad to hear your efforts are working out for you!

I did it!

This morning I decided to go out for a jog and I did it! I didn't jogcontinuously, but I'd go for half a minute to a minute and then walkfast to catch my breath, then jog again until I was out of breath, etc. :)It was a pretty quick jog (for me) when I was going...next time I'llwork on pacing myself. I did it for 30 minutes. The first 4-5minutes I just walked quickly, then I went to the jog intervals :) Ifelt so great when I was done--I can't even describe it!!! I can'twait to do it again! But not tomorrow, we're getting hammered withsnow tonight :PI kinda needed to do something like this after yesterday. I went upto visit my parents and they had huge bags of chips and pretzels. Iwasn't even tempted at first, but then lunch kept getting delayed. I'm used to having my snack at 10:30, then eating lunch around noon. Yesterday I forgot my snack (we were in the car driving up to theirhome) and I was starving by noon--and we didn't eat until almost 1:30.So what started as a handful of "I have to eat something or I'm goingto pass out" pretzels turned into 6 handfuls of "I don't even careanymore, I just want food!" I accounted for it and I wound up goingover my goal yesterday. I went to bed feeling lousy about it. Ididn't completely blow it, but I definitely went over. Oh well, todayis a new day. So far, so good :)-Bonnie

all right you little workout demon you! I think I would of collapsed! what great progress you've made in such a short time. It's also wonderful that you're donating the closthes to some worthy causes :)brgk44 <brgk44@...> wrote: Saturday morning I went to the Y and did 30 mins on the treadmill and20 mins on the elliptical (I never thought I'd be able to do that--remember back when I tried it for the first time in January and lasted only 3 mins?). Yesterday I went again and decided to see how long I could do the elliptical for--completed 45 minutes and 3.75 miles! Started getting a cramp in my right calf toward the end, though, and the minute I got off my muscles were screaming. After stretching, though, felt great (but tired). I feel so accomplished to have stayed on that long! So for the garage sale, we decided

to go ahead and donate everything. There are a couple homeless and women's shelters downtown and that's where most will go. I have enough problems staying on top of laundry and chores without adding in another 7 loads to do ;) Thanks for all the advice, ladies--it really helped!!! :)-BonnieLive, Love, Laugh
