Genia; Well, you're doing the right thing....talking your way through this and asking questions when you don't have the answer! I don't have the answer on the soup thing but I sure do love the creamy ones. I water them down a bit, partly due to the calorie content and partly just to get more volume. That way I break a serving into two. It works for me. I also make my own broth by putting together a bunch of vegetables/water in a crock pot and simmering for a few hours. It tastes (and smells) delicious. You love animals. I do too. I don't have any because I'm not settled down enough to care for them properly on a long term continual basis. But I pet sit from time to time and play foster parent, and have all kinds of pet friends in the neighborhood who visit, so I get my animal lovin' in. Maybe someday....... He Genia,

I was banded two days before you. I do not remember whether Dr. Aceves expicitely recommended cream soups. If he did, he probably meant low cal creamed soups. Some cream soups can be laden with calories, so read the label. I worked in Ireland one summer, and all they served in restaurants were cream soups. Boy, that's when I could hardly fit in my plane seat on the way back. Cream soup could mean just this. Lots of butterfat in the soup. That is what makes some of them so tasty.

Anyhow, I am going on my thick liquids diet next Wednesday. I have some nice homemade beans and spinach soup in the freezer. The stock I used for the soup was a homemade chicken broth, from which I skimmed off the fat (I never liked animal fats, save butterfat). I added root veggies to the pot, to make it rich in vitamins. I cubed the veggies and the chicken removed from the bones, and added them back to the bean/spinach soup. I will blenderize the soup and add more water, if needed, and drink it down. This soup is extremely healthy, high in proteins, high in fibers, high in antioxidants and low in fat. Of course one has to watch portion size, because legumes are also high in starches.

You can also make a healthy soup by adding cubed root veggies and shredded dark green leaved vegetables (spinach, kale, collards, mustard greens) to commercial ckicken broth and blenderize it. You'll get more nutrients than in plain chicken broth. I make my own chicken stock because I like to cook and it tastes better than commercial.

In addition, I plan on having yoghurt and fruit smothies, Rice'n Shine shakes (which I take for cardiovascular health every morning) and also go back to steel cut oats for breakfast, which I will make into a thin gruel. Of all types of oats, the steel cut oats are highest in soluble fiber. They look like grits. Soluble fibers are beneficial in weight loss, because they carry out fats from the digestive tract.

Good luck on your journey,

Margaret

Genia, I also sleep on my stomach, and when I had my surgery found that I could not sleep on my stomach. I put a pillow under my stomach and sleep on my side and found that sorta comforable with the pillow my stomach didn't pull to the side . Give it try. Whenever I feel like I don't really want to exercise, I've told myself that at the minimum I am going to get on the treadmill and walk for 15 minutes -- at a very slow speed. Doesn't require a lot of thought or coordination on my part. Just something that requires movement. Usually once I get started and have gotten those 15 minutes done -- I can continue for another 15 minutes -- but, again, at a very low speed. Dacia<><Deaf Lutheran

GOOD GOING!!! Ive been walking with 2 friends of mine 5days aweek we

go to downtown to the lake front and walk 2.5 miles.Weve been doing

this for 2 weeks now. The other morning i went kicking an screaming

because my muscles were tired and i just wanted to stay home in bed.

we get down there and there is another woman walking with her elderly

father and their faster than us. lol well she had stopped behind me

and then when she was going by me she leaned over to talk to me and

Said GOD told her to tell me that I was a BLESSED woman and that I

would get rich this year. NOW most would think that means MONEY....

But I think I am truley blessed to have friends that are by me

helping me keep motivated to get healthy and I will be rich with GOOD

health which i believe most of my health issues come from weight.

SO Ill take it as GODs way of sending me a message.

>Then, I stopped working full-time outside my home. I now work at home

the administrative assistant to my husband for his ministry. I can

exercise any time I want -- but haven't.

We always find other things that *have* to be done first, don't we? :)

>I have found that I function better when I have a specific

structure/routine in place -- as long as it isn't too rigid! I have

also found that exercise has to be the very first thing I do in the

morning -- or it isn't going to happen.

That's how I have to be, too. No exercise? No breakfast, not even a cup

of coffee! I have to wait an hour after my morning thyroid pill before I

can eat or drink anything but water, anyway, so I take my pills, turn on

the computer and start downloading emails (A half-hour task on dial-up),

take my asthma puffs, then pop in that tape or dvd and sweat. By the

time exercise is done I can start making breakfast.

> So, I set my alarm for 4:45 AM (woke up before it went off). Was

exercising by 5:15 AM.

I'm glad I'm not the only one with an alarm set to that horrible time.

And yes, I, too, usually wake up before it goes off. Today I was up at

4:20am and didn't bother trying to get back to sleep.

>I am also going to schedule breaks during the day when I get on the

treadmill for at least 10 minutes twice a day.

I had that im mind to do, too, but it just never got done. First the 2

weeks struggling with the oven and landlord, then last week the aunt and

her shennanigans kept me busy. Today is catch-up day, but maybe, just

maybe, I can sneak in 10 to 15 minutes while dinner is cooking.

>I also know that I need to start by taking small steps -- I can't do a

full hour workout right from the very beginning. I know that I can do

the 1-mile WATP. That is what I did this morning.

Right now WATP bothers my arthritis hip so I've been doing other

work-outs, like 's Sweatin' DVD's. The beauty of the DVD is the

ability to chapter-skip over the really hard and fast songs and just do

the ones that I want. The first 2 or 4 to get 20 minutes in, then skip

to the last 2 or 3 for another 15 - 20 minutes for cooldown. Perfect! It

was the best investment I've made in ages.

My son has been using the exercycle a lot lately, but because he's so short of time with his college schedule he's not going longer, just harder, by increasing the tension for about half the workout. Of course, he's normal weight and has knees 30 years younger than mine, so he can handle it.

I remember the first time I cleaned my whole house and wasn't dropping dead. It was such a thrill and it was then that I realized just how sick I had become. Glad you are doing so much better. That is why I do this. I want so much for others to regain the life that I have. It is truly abundant. :)

i did it!

dear friends and buddies!

i'm overflowing with gratitude and joy right now! and i want you to share in it with me!

through September of last year, tho' my insides were DYING, i was so well medicated that i could do almost ANYTHING (i was born a Type-A) whenever i desired to. then i was de-medicated from ZOLOFT (of 13.5 years). sandi, as everyone in my life knew me, stepped outside, and someone else, totally unlike, her stepped in.

then the Lord led me to 'thyroidless' and 'iodine' and i began healing.

and, TODAY, for the first time in just less than 1 year, i had the stamina, desire and ability to clean up our back deck, clean up & begin caring for my dying box flowers and prepare a place where i can spend some time each day with our Creator just like He desired to do with Adam and Adam's Eve.

the tears i'm STILL crying are happy and grateful tears just because He loves us so much that He organized the creation of these groups so that we can get healed and LIVE again!!!

Subject: I did it!

" It " being moved my body. Exercise.

Yep. Yep! Sunday's usually slacker-day for me, turned to exercise

again. Saturday's exercise was grocery and Christmas shopping.

Today, I did the WATP Walk & Jog video (30 min) *and* Slim

in 6 (level 2) - 30 minutes. It's like a 48 minute workout, but I skipped

some of it. Obviously. But, I had already done WATP, so I didn't

feel like a cheater.

Then. DS needed new shoes and a new sweatshirt.

Sure! HE can't want to do it a week ago when it's 32 degrees out.

NO he has to wait until today when it is like 5 out there. Brrrrrrr.....

but, the good news is we did not get the 6-10 " of snow they

threatened. I mean, predicted. At least not at my house. We

maybe got 1 " here.

Well. At least I can sleep at night knowing he won't be

wearing holey shoes any longer. LOL!! Seriously. But, I

cann't force him to buy something. And, if I buy something, he won't wear

it. So. I wait until he is ready and tired of freezing LOL!!

OK. Happy new week! Not positive, but for now this

is the plan:

Monday- step or spin class

Tuesday - water aerobics (may

stay for yoga to see if I like it - didn't get there Sat)

Wednesday - spin, if I didn't

try it Monday

Thursday - water aerobics (if

I tried yoga and liked it, may stay)

Friday - not sure - day off

or women's fitness center or I could do water aerobics

Saturday - not sure:

water aerobics, yoga, another class, women's fitness center - good options

LOL!!

Menu for the week: haven't worked on it yet! I need to sit

down and do that!! And, I need to look at what will be options for the

week of Christmas with the gym, etc.

My digital camera's viewer cracked a year ago - it looks like a broken Etch-A-Sketch. There's one tiny corner that still shows what the view finder sees so I can approximate a shot, but don't ask me to take a picture of anything specific. For *that* I still have film in my regular camera. In fact, that's what we used for our Christmas pictures again this year and wound up having to go to Walgreen drug store to get developed because the film place we had been using for 20 years no longer develops film for everyday people, just specialty shots, restorations, and all that stuff. Ed promised me I can get a new camera this week when we make our way to Best Buy by Giants stadium. It was supposed to be today's trip, but with an inch of rain expected we're changing plans and staying close to home today.

Some vacation - rain predicted every day but Wednesday, and *that* day will be cool and cloudy.

You'll be in Onederland - won't that be great!

YAY! Congrats for getting through it!!!On Thu, Aug 6, 2009 at 6:23 PM, trishdb00 <wilbty1@...> wrote:

sorry about my absence there i have been recollecting myself the last few days. grasping life i guess. made some discoveries about me that i didn't see before and now i think i can move past some of those hurdles. life is good.

i have some how managed to gain weight instead of losing, bad, but i'm still working on that so i haven't given up yet. i almost have a weeks worth of workout dvd's there are arriving slowly but surely. still waiting my my new HRM so excited for that to get here. i did finally figure out how to use the dvd burner i bought like 3 or 4 years ago and have been copying some workout from fit tv, i'm not selling them so it's legal i checked.

ok ok i'll quit rambling and tell u the I DID IT part, at beginning of summer i bought this ___'s Boot Camp All Star workout dvd and i can't get throught the whole hour workout it's too hard to many repatitions too much i have to alter alter alter and still i can't finish the whole hour. THAT IS TILL last night. i did the whole workout only altering the push up cuz i have weak and puny arms and cannot do a push up to save my life, but i did it.

i know i know to u pro's that don't sound like much but to me that is soooo much. k that's all i want to say.
