Guest guest
Hi Sue! That is so funny, cuz my twins are so different, both in looks and personality, that you would never know they were twins! Let alone sisters! BTW, they love eating the Atkins way, especially when they are involved with sports. Did alot of research about teenagers doing Atkins and they have truly benefited from it! Take care! Kim

Guest guest
Hi, I'm Trinks. Thanks very much for the welcome, Sue. I'm in the planning stages of low carb. I'm a 51 year old woman who has been overweight since adolescence. I went on Atkins when it first came out! but never stuck with it. Twice I've lost 30-35 pounds and kept it off for five or six years, but then something happens to upset my schedule (I'm one of those who needs to live a regulated life to keep " on program " ) and I'm lost. The past three years have been very difficult -- very stressed, very out of control for a variety of personal crises. Now I need to lose 100 pounds to look something like a normal person, and about another 30 to be " thin. " I'm going to start a combination of Protein Power and Atkins tomorrow. (My combination is Atkins induction with the addition of 2 fruits and 4 cups of vegetables.) I've been lurking and reading the public lists on and off for a year, made two half-hearted starts on it a year ago and then for New Years (haha). Now I'm working at home and there's no excuse for not sticking with it. I think the lists are very helpful; you can see your own mistakes made by others! And maybe that's away to avoid making them again. I also like the idea of having to be accountable to people, having to post weights and losses. One question. I don't understand how to get to the recipe archive. Any tips? Thank you. Trinks (numbers next Friday)

Guest guest
Hi Sue, Been Dr. Atkins for 6 days now. Just found Onelist. I have found other lo-carb sites that have been encouraging to me. I have 150 pds. to lose. I have dieted all of my life. I am 54 yrs old and now have developed diabetes II and my legs ache so bad I walk like a much older woman. I truly want to make this a wol not a diet. The boards and chats I have found have been inspiring as well as encouraging. Not a lot of support out there for lo-carbers. My latest attempt was on Sugarbusters (since I'm a New Orleanian). Lost a few pds, but was a struggle. I cannot eat rice, pasta, bread and eat a small amount. Hope this isn't too long. Looking forward to your posts. Shirley

Guest guest
Hi! I am new to the list also. I have been looking into different diets and know that I need to cut back on carbohydrates. I have not been able to loose weight, infact when I have tried I have only gained. The last 4 years I have gained over 60 pounds. college, marriage, baby etc. were factors there. Anyway, I am looking forward to hearing others suggestions and maybe some recipes. Does the Atkins diet say anything about juicing? And does anyone know of a carbo chart on the web that I could look at? I am trying to figure out now what vegetables and fruits are the highest. Thanks! Guest guest
Sue, I went there and tried to download, but my computer just sat there for several minutes...didn't even start downloading. Does it take a while before it starts downloading. Just wondering if anyone else experienced this?
Guest guest
Hello, I have been on the diet for about 16 months and love it. I have primarly started the diet to lower my cholesterol, and after 6 months, it was under 200 for the first time ever. Unfortunately, at about 14 months I had another test and it was up to 237. I had stopped taking a chromium supplement, and had switched from metamucil to a tablet form of fiber supplement. So, I have changed back to metamucil and restsrted taking the chromium. I will take another blood test in about a month. I do not fastidiously measure my carbs, but believe I am at about 40 gms/day. I don't eat any sugar, and thought that was the thing that was working. I wonder what forms of carbs you find the least harmful to consume? I take a bite or 2 of strawberries and melon every now and then, and mashed potatoes when I am in a restaurant that serves them. I do miss pizza! Thanks.

I am more of an all or nothing type of person and this helps because I pretty much eat as much meat as I want and no starches or sugars. Guest guest
I agree with Theresa. It is a lot easier for me just to not eat any of the starches and sugars than trying to limit the amount. I also find that I don't hardly ever get that starvin' feeling either. I sure hope things keep on this way! Nay 284>275>
Guest guest
Congratulations on getting your blood pressure under control. I used to take beta blockers for blood pressure and I felt awfull all the time. Glad you are doing so well. God bless, Lee
Guest guest
Hello, I am new to this list. I started Atkins 6 weeks ago when my sister encouraged me to try it for the health benefits. I am not overweight (would like to lose 10 pounds only) but was suffering from very high blood pressure. I was taking Dyazide and Atenolol daily to keep it under control. Within 3 days on Atkins Induction, I dropped the Dyazide and 3 weeks later weaned myself off Atenolol. My blood pressure is now normal without drugs! I check it everyday! Now I know why I had high blood pressure. I was consuming tons of sugar daily and craving more and more. I am now able to satisfy my sweet tooth with a small dose of diet Jell-O topped with a couple of tablespoons of legal cheesecake, as a nightly ritual. Otherwise, I religiously followed Induction. I have lost about 8 pounds and realize that the additional 10 will take some time. I feel fabulous (sleeping now that I am not taking the beta blockers) and no longer feeling stressed. I am concerned about getting enough fiber and nutrients. (Am taking lots of vitamins as recommended by Dr. A). Years ago I followed Atkins diet as a means of staying slim but stopped when I heard all the bad press. I went to low fat but struggled with constant hunger, never feeling full. Not now! Sometimes I have to remind myself that I should eat something. Enough about me! I am anxious to read other's input on this list! Thanks for asking.
