Hi! I'm in my early fifties and need to lose 70 pounds. I still can't believe

I'm here, but I've tried to lose weight for the last two years on low fat diets

to no success. I've been on the induction diet for two weeks. I promised

myself I would only weigh once a month so I'm not certain how much I've lost,

but my clothes are fitting better and I think I can see a trifle less flab

around my middle.

I work as a university administrator, great husband, one son, five steps (all

are great), presently also caring for mother with alzheimer's disease, and adore

my three labradors. Like gardening, travel, reading, and laughing. Menopause

has been difficult, but I think it's easing up a bit since I've been on HRT.

Don't really miss bread, pasta, potatoes, rice, etc. but would like a very

small desert at the end of my evening meal. Searching for low carb easy

recipies for that. Just bought Atkins cookbooks, so am looking there. Do miss

fruit. Hope to hear more about the members of this list soon. Cheers to you

all!

Hello,

Thank you so much for adding me to your list. I just bought Dr. Atkins book

and I am going to start on the diet soon. I thought I could get some

pointers here on how to do it right! I am a true lover of sugar so I know I

have my work cut out for me. I would really love to hear from all of you who

have tried this diet. Thanks so much in advance for all your help!

Hi Shirley! I was taking anti-depressants up until a couple of weeks ago.

The diet has helped me tremendously. I have taken Serzone, Wellbutrin, and

Prozac. I think I am free of the drugs, I tend to think they just cover up

the problems, but when your self-esteem is high... life is great!!! Good

Luck!!

Cheri, good choice on the Atkins plan! First, memorize the 14 day section

of the book, then read it front to back until you have a great

understanding of what you are in for. Then, look through this lists

archives and you will find a slew of ideas. I would suggest you take

L-Glutamine in the morning and early evenings, works wonders for sugar

cravings. Good luck!!

Welcome!!

Hi What a great weight loss (and only a month??!!). I've really been

encouraged by all of the emails from the group. I'm wondering what everyone

does when eating out? We have lots of social engagements coming up for

dinner. At home it's great because I can BarBQ, but when we go out it'll be

tougher. Any ideas?

Thanks, Deb

Oh Deb, girl, I go out 3 or 4 nights a week. I just got back from Subway

where I got a Subway melt salad (ham, turkey, bacon, cheese) oohh good!!

I go to places and eat pork bbq, golden corrall has grilled chicken and

steak. Red Lobster has tons of steamed seafood. You can also get good

salads out, just check the dressings. Oh, there are so many things....

mexican restaurants.... taco salad, without the shell, pizza places will

make you a pizza without sauce (with olive oil), you can just eat the

toppings. Arby's roast beef is good as well as there grilled chicken. You

can eat just about anywhere!!!!

Hi ,

I would be very much interested in receiving the recipes book that you

are talking about. I've looked at some cookbooks at the book stores but I'm

hesitant to buy any because my wife will think it's just another fad diet.

As soon as I lose a bunch of weight and can get her to convert then I could

buy some of them but until, I'm doing the best that I can. Thanks.
