Guest guest
I am afraid I have no recommendations, because I, too, usually just give in to temptation. Its much easier that way. Re: your blood sugar results The whole idea behind carbohydrate conting and dosing insulin in proportion to the carbs eaten is that someoen with diabetes (type 1, at least) can eat anything they want to as long as they take the appropriate amount of insulin. I don't know many medical professionals these days who *don't* say that diabetics can eat a balanced diet of everything, including candy or junk food every once in a while. It's a bit different for a type 21 diabetic taking only medication or controlling hteir blood sugar through only diet and exercise, but for type 1s cabrohydate counting has overtaken the old " no candy " mentality. Guest guest
Hey!! !! You know that riding lessons take time to master!! Smile!! When I feel like I want something, I wait a few minutes, and then drink a couple of glasses of water with a bit of lemon squeezed in. Then wait a few more minutes, then if I still crave something, I grab a hand full of almonds or walnuts, and it usually works! What you are saying that darn, you are human!! Smile! Don't be so hard on yourself!! Smile! There are days when I think I am doing everything right, and things don't get right!! Unfortunately, there is no quick fix, where we can say, oh! Well, after I do this for a while, it will be fixed!! Hang in there bud, you know that you can do it, but it takes a lot of effort and infinite patience!! Guest guest
Hi , what is it about cereal that makes you crave it? The taste, the sugar, the texture? Let's work on this! Guest guest
That's the truth. I haven't smoked in years, but I still have periodic cravings for a cigarette or a cigar even today. Guest guest
Actually, my Bg was not bd. About 3 hours after eating, my BG wa 112, in the middle of the night it was 82. I expected thej stomach to dump all those carbs into my system after that, but his morning, it was actually 63 and I had to drink a little juice. Maybe the glass of white wine I had with dinner kept the sugar lowere than expected. Re: your blood sugar results Tomorrow is a new day so start over, right? Guest guest
Hi , this message is one that has that really weird return address, when I reply! It's about time that I post! Morning 6.9 (124) Breakfast 2 scrambled eggs, 3 strips of bacon, 2 slices of tomato, one piece whole-wheat toast, 1 coffee. Post meal, 6.8 (122) Again did not test at lunch, out in the fields! Lunch chicken curried salad wrapped in lettuce leaves, one small oatmeal cookie. Before dinner, 6.9 (124) Dinner small bowl pasta, two turkey meatballs, good size salad. One small square dark chocolate. Post meal 6.9 (124) I drink mostly water all day long! A coffee a couple mornings a week. I find that water curves my appetite, makes me feel full! I always drink a big glass of water before a meal, and another about an hour after a meal, and many glasses in between! I had the worst craving today for chip truck fries!! Oh!! Man!! I could taste them!! Lucky, I was working out in the fields miles and miles away from any chip truck!! Guest guest
Hi , What works for me, although I don't always do it! Smile. In the evenings or when I'm home anyway, if I want to eat when I shouldn't be: I jump on the exercise bike or tread mill for a while. This usually makes any cravings go away, and if they don't motivation seems to be better because I don't want to undo the good effects of exercise. Cheers, Brett. Guest guest
Thanks for asking . I think more than anything it is the sugar and has nothing to do with the texture. When I get a taste of sugar, no matter what it is, it ignites me to eat more, and more, and more, etc. If I eat a pop tart, I want more. If I eat a snickers bar, I want more. If I eat ice cream, I want more. And on the vicious cycle goes. Like you mentioned to me, some people eat to live, and other people live to eat. I think I am the sort of person that lives to eat. The only way I have ever been able to stop myself from eating sweets like this is to take a black/white approach. That is, all or nothing. That is sort of my personality too... all or nothing. When I work, it is not 100%, it is 150% of all my energy. Likewise, when I sleep, it is 150% sleep. *grin*. I've tried everything that I can think of... I've tried saying I'll eat only 30 grams of carbs at each meal and mostly meats/veggies. That has never worked since when I eat sweets, for example sugared cereal at 30 grams a bowl for breakfast, I want more, and more, and more. Not to mention carbohydrate estimation is all just a bunch of damn guess work and that is foolishness. None of us can accurately guess carbos no matter what the damn box says. We either over estimate and are high sugared, under estimate and go low sugared, eat more so we don't pass out, and then just get fat which I am at right now! I gotta tell you though, when I followed doctor Bernstein's diet I never felt better. Physically, psychologically, everything improved across the board. My doctor wants me back on it as well since she seen the results from following it and supports it. While I was on it, I weighed 165 pounds, my a1c was at 4.8, and my ldl cholesterol was 80 or under. I only had to dose 2 units of humalog at a meal. My God that is not guessing carbos, that is accurate! I don't know guys, maybe it is what Harry is saying, maybe it is just the fight and nothing more than the fight and me not wanting to fight it. I don't know. Thoughts anyone? Guest guest
Hi all, a bit high this morning, at 8.6 (155(. Did a 40 minute bolus and had ham and cheese on toast, for about 20 grams of carbs. Used 5 units of insulin to cover the food, plus two units to cover the high blood sugar. Post breakfast was 8.9. Just ate one of the kids TimTams that I definitely should not have eaten, oh well. Cheers, Brett. .. Guest guest
, Maybe the answer lies somewhere within finding a happy medium. Perhaps trying to live in both worlds (that is, the Dr. B world and the regular world) is too unrealistic. Find that happy medium where you can have some carbohydrates throughout the day, but on a limited basis. This is one reason I advocate small cheats each day. I find a tiny piece of candy just about every day is enough. I am not faced with a gloomy outlook of never enjoying a piece of candy, yet I know I am not over indulging either when I have a piece. You are tired in the evenings and your defenses are at a low point. You could always have your wife hide the cereal I suppose!
