In the past numerous two hour posts on my monitor would usually show a reading

of 120-145 or there abouts. Yes, the two hour post prandial results is what you

say, when kept below 120. At least that has been my experience, but since I

started taking those heart medications, I have had varying results, some of

which was really a bummer. Tonight my bedtime bs was 129, and I dosed the other

half of my split dose of Lantus, 25 units and ate 8 grams of carbs to raise my

bs 20-35 points. I will take the rest of the heart medications tonight and see

what the fasting bs level is in the morning. I don't trust those heart meds

and their interactions with insulin so far, since my overnight sleep varies

between a 50 point drop and a 100 point drop after I go to sleep. Yes, I know

that amount of drop is ridiculous, but I am taking no chances on that low sugar

reaction in the middle of the night, waking up with shakes and sweats. That is

definitely no fun. I encourage other listers here to get on this message

subject line, because this is almost exactly how taught me how to manage

my glucose level. If you do not share what is going on with your body, then you

cannot expect to get timely help and suggestions. This method of sharing

information can sooner or later make you a master of blood glucose level

management. no matter what your bs readings may be. No matter whether you are a

type 1, a type 2 or what ever you may be, insulin dependent or pill or drug

dependent or a combo of drugs and insulin. No shame is spread here on this

subject help. Just ideas, results and suggestions. So get on board if you want

to become a master.

Well, my day seems terrible compared to all of you!

I woke up at 7.6 (137 mg/dl), took 3.55 units of insulin to cover 30 grams

of carbs.

I was 15.6 (281 mg/dl) after breakfast and corrected with 3.8 units of

insulin.

Before lunch I was 6.9 (124 mg/dl) and took 2.1 units of insulin to cover 25

grams of carbs (a sandwich on Weight Watchers bread and some sliced

strawberries). About an hour after lunch I ate another 10 grams of carbs and

took 0.9 units of insulin to cover them.

About an hour after this my class ended and I went to the coffee shop for a

short half hour lunch break. I tested at 10.2 (184 mg/dl) and had a latte

and half a brownie which was 40 grams of carbs in total. I took 4.4 units to

cover this.

Two hours after this I was at 11.1 (200 mg/dl) and took a unit to correct

this, since I still had lots of insulin on board. At this point I figured

I've been spiking after meals so changed my I:C ratio from 1:11 to 1:10. I'm

pretty sure hormones are mucking me up because my blood sugars have been

much more erratic these past few days even though I'm eating fewer carbs!

Two hours later I met with classmates to work on a group project. I would be

on campus for another few hours but because it was after 5:00 nothing was

open. I hadn't planned on staying late, but we have assignments due at the

end of the week so needed to meet, so I had no kind of dinner packed. I was

starving so had a 25 gram granola bar. The granola bar actually had no

nutritional information on it but most seem to be 25 grams of carbs so this

is what I bloused for, taking only 1.6 units because I had insulin on board

and my blood sugar at this time was 4.9 (88 mg/dl).

Two hours later I was down to 2.9 (52 mg/dl) so ate about 15 grams of

Skittles. About half an hour after this I also had another latte which was

25 grams of carbs, another guestimate. I took 2.5 units to cover this.

Now, about 45 minutes later, I am having an extremely late dinner. I still

have lots of insulin on board but will bolus 3.6 units for a hamburger that

my family has saved. I will test in two hours or so which will also be my

before-bed reading.

I do not plan on eating anything else today, so that is a total of 190 grams

of carbs. That is pretty good for a day when I'm out of the house for almost

12 hours straight!! I will try to aim for lower tomorrow. I also hope my

blood sugars are more stable tomorrow because this is pretty unstable

compared to what I've been getting for the past few months, seems to be

hormone-related, however, as it happens every few weeks it seems and I need

to change basal rates and carb ratios to get things sorted out.

I really think, from reading all your recent numbers, it is 2 steps forward

and 1 stepp back.

Re: your blood sugar results

Ok dudes, I did terrible for dinner.

Absolutely terrible!

I had 1 slice of pizza and not 1, not 2, but three bowls of cereal!

Let me say though that the bowls of cereal were in a baby bowl, what I feed

my 2 year old son out of, so probably like 1.5 bowls for most.

To top it all off, I had a few bites of chocolate as well.

My pre-dinner was 65, 3.6, so perhaps that contributed to my urge to eat

carbos.

But I know better. I should have fought it!

I've dosed 7 units for the pizza and 14 units for the cereal/chocolate

totaling 21 units of humalog.

Listen, for a type 1, that is insane! Large numbers, large mistakes, small

numbers, small mistakes.

Tomorrow is a new day though. I gotta get up, dust off, and press on back to

what I know works for me.

Seems like 1 step forward, two steps back!

Hey All,

This morning waking up I was 75, 4.1. I dosed 1 unit of humalog insulin to stop

the dawn effect. I'll probably eat breakfast in a few hours.

Stay tuned to this same channel!

This morning my initial blood sugar reading was 89. I hate oatmeal but I

had some for breakfast. Thank goodness my readings have been really good.

Re: your blood sugar results

FG (fasting glucose) this morning at 9A. M.was 104. For breakfast I

guess-estimate I consumed around 50 grams of carbs and dosed 15 units of

Humalog and 25 units of Lantus after the meal. I did not do a two hour post

prandial bs level. I did eat some nuts and drank three beers before supper

when my bs level is recorded as being 96 at 6:30P. M.

Hey guys,

My pre-breakfast was 81, 4.5.

I ate a few chicken strips with a spread of salsa/cream cheese on them.

I also had a slice of cheddar cheese.

I dosed 5 units of humalog to cover the meal.

btw I am striving to keep my meals at around 500 calories.

Went to bed last night with a blood sugar of 9.2 or 166, gave myself half a

unit to correct.

Woke up this morning at 9.7 or 175. I changed my pump infusion set this

morning. I'm often high after a site change so we'll see what I am after

breakfast.

I took 5.45 units to cover 36 grams of carbs (milk and high-fibre cereal

again) and correct my blood sugar.

A correction is just giving extra insulin to bring down a high blood sugar.

You can do it with pens or a pump. You just take your target blood sugar,

subtract it from your current blood sugar, and divide by how many point

insulin lowers your blood sugar by. So if I'm 9.7 and my target blood sugar

(where I'd like to be) is 6.0, I do 9.7 - 6.0 = 3.7. I know that a unit of

insulin lowers my blood sugar by approximately 2 points, so 3.7 / 2 = 1.85,

so I will take 1.85 units of insulin to lower that reading. If I were using

insulin pens I would round up to two units. Of course, my pump does all this

math for me, with a pen you would have to do it yourself. A simpler way with

pens is to just take an extra uint of insulin for every 2 points your blood

sugar is above 8, or something similar.

Re: your blood sugar results

i dont understand doing this correction with insulin. can you only do this

when on a pump. can you do this when taking insulin on the pen. thanks,

karen

RE: your blood sugar results

Well, my day seems terrible compared to all of you!

I woke up at 7.6 (137 mg/dl), took 3.55 units of insulin to cover 30 grams

of carbs.

I was 15.6 (281 mg/dl) after breakfast and corrected with 3.8 units of

insulin.

Before lunch I was 6.9 (124 mg/dl) and took 2.1 units of insulin to cover

25

grams of carbs (a sandwich on Weight Watchers bread and some sliced

strawberries). About an hour after lunch I ate another 10 grams of carbs

and

took 0.9 units of insulin to cover them.

About an hour after this my class ended and I went to the coffee shop for

a

short half hour lunch break. I tested at 10.2 (184 mg/dl) and had a latte

and half a brownie which was 40 grams of carbs in total. I took 4.4 units

to

I would

be

on campus for another few hours but because it was after 5:00 nothing was

open. I hadn't planned on staying late, but we have assignments due at the

end of the week so needed to meet, so I had no kind of dinner packed. I

was

starving so had a 25 gram granola bar. The granola bar actually had no

nutritional information on it but most seem to be 25 grams of carbs so

this

is what I bloused for, taking only 1.6 units because I had insulin on

board

and my blood sugar at this time was 4.9 (88 mg/dl).

I still

have lots of insulin on board but will bolus 3.6 units for a hamburger

that

my family has saved. I will test in two hours or so which will also be my

before-bed reading.

I do not plan on eating anything else today, so that is a total of 190

grams

of carbs. That is pretty good for a day when I'm out of the house for

almost

12 hours straight!! I will try to aim for lower tomorrow. I also hope my

blood sugars are more stable tomorrow because this is pretty unstable

compared to what I've been getting for the past few months, seems to be

hormone-related, however, as it happens every few weeks it seems and I

need

to change basal rates and carb ratios to get things sorted out.

Hey guys,

prior to breakfast I was 81, 4.5. Two hours post I was 37, 2.0. Ate a few

glucose and came up to 88, 4.8.

Next up is pre-lunch.

I need to cut back my humalog more at each meal to get my 2 hour post more level

at around 120 or less but not under 70.

Hehehe, I *am* going for my masters, but not in math! Math is not my strong

point, which is why I got a pump so it can do it all for me!!!

Last night I was unable to go to sleep, because of the banging , sputtering and

knocking around my heart was making at 2 a.m., so I had to get up and take

another candy of 4-5 grams until this fuel deprived heart could calm down from

all those irregular heart beats. By experience this usually does not happen if I

can push my bs level up to 170 before I go to bed. Even with this extra sugar

this morning my fbs was 86, so I ate a peach and dosed 6 units of Humalog and 25

units of Lantus. Next up will be a pre-lunch bs level and food and more

Humalog, then a two hour post bs level. For some reason of which I am unaware I

usually function better if I aim for a two hour post prandial bs of over 120 ,

but less than 140. As an old fart striving for less than 120 recently has not

worked out so well for me. We'll see. those hard rock flat round candies

offer more and cheaper blood glucose boosts than thos expensive glucose tablets.
