Hi Robin,

Congratulations on getting back under 170, here's hoping that the weekend

was good to you. I was really busy this weekend, so I apologize for the

slow response.

Guess what, though? I was away from the computer all weekend and boy what a

weekend. Friday night I did really well, just chicken and a salad for

dinner. Saturday I had to work for some scholarship competitions that we

had on campus. Actually there are four Saturdays in a row that these take

place. Each involves a buffet lunch with dessert bar of some of the best

looking desserts one could hope to find. Well, I took some salad, a few

strawberries, a little bit of hot chicken salad (not totally legal, but not

bad) and some pork loin. Usually they put the dessert part right on the

table, but having it as a separate line that you actually had to go through

to take the dessert allowed me to skip that entirely! Yeah for me!!! I

was feeling so good about it that I agreed to go to a new coffee shop in

town for something to eat Saturday night. Well, darn it all, they have

salads coming soon, but otherwise it was all sandwiches and malts and

muffins and cheesecakes made with sugar and coffees and teas. Well I had a

sandwich and ate part of the bun because I was too hungry not to. Then I

did really good again on Sunday and I am actually down a pound from Friday's

weight!

For me, gaining two pounds over the weekend is the norm, so I am psyched.

Not only that, but TOM came this weekend too and I think another weight loss

could be just around the corner.

Jean:

Fantastic! Sounds like an overall success to me! I'm still

dealing with my coffee demon. Yesterday we were out shopping

and I went to starbucks. Why? I couldn't help myself. The

coffee isn't even good, it tastes burnt. So why? My reward,

up a pound today with a whopping headache. Bah! However, I

survived the chocolate ball with fantastic success. Since I

was " working " there I ate at the volunteer dinner and skipped

the pasta part. I took salad and a bunch of cold cuts and

swiss cheese. I drank a little (I mean that literally, they

had these miniature bottles of cola) diet coke and then

followed it with coffee with cream. :) Water? Am I supposed

to be drinking water? :) I know you think my cheats are

little, and I'm glad that I think so too. However, they cause

such ridiculous damage! I hate allergies!

Good news for today, it's staff meeting day and the agency

provides cheese pizza for the staff. I'm usually the pouty

person who doesn't eat, today I asked the pizza place (they

make wings, but their sauce has all kinds of bad stuff in it)

if they could make me special wings with just hotsauce and

butter and he said yes. So I'll be having that. I have

vegetables in the freezer here so I'll probably have some

cauliflower this afternoon. I'm determined to drink all my

water today.

Thanks, . I don't think I would have the strength to stick with

Atkins if I had to deal with lots of food allergies or intolerances. I

don't know how you and Kirstie do it, but I sure am glad that you do! I

just need to count my blessings I guess.

First, congrats on your successful weekend.

I promise, even though it took me almost a week to

respond to your message, I am not hiding out in carb bliss ;-)

I have been doing pretty good as far as food choices go. Maybe

a few too many carbs but nothing horrible. The worst I have

done lately is a few days ago, I ate the topping off of 4 pieces of

pizza. Way too much cheese, but again, that is the worst I have done.

But my weight is driving me crazy. Today I am 172. My weight just

keeps creeping up. It'll drop back down for a day or two and then

it starts creeping back up again. Very frustrating =-P Just makes

me want to cheat so bad. One day it was so bad, I was almost in

tears, asking for the strength not to cheat. I haven't cheated yet but

I sure came waaaaayyyy too close a few times mostly because I am

so frustrated with my weight. I am under a lot of stress right now,

working more hours than usual and very tired. I am wondering if

that is what is causing the problems with my weight. That is the only

thing I can think of.

Well, I think I need some cheese with that whine :-)

Have a great low carb weekend :-)

Hi Robin,

I'm sorry to hear that you keep bouncing around. I have been doing that for

a year now, but I can't say that I haven't cheated, so I guess I have nobody

but myself to blame. It would sure be frustrating to be that good and not

lose weight. I really hope that things start going better for you. Just

keep drinking up and hopefully something will happen.

I have been struggling once again lately. I guess it's because you are not

there to keep me honest. :-) Anyway, I have eaten all kinds of things that

I should not be eating. Most of the time I try to make sure that I am at

least not combining fats and carbs, but that is so hard too. I eat

something low carb, usually meaning higher in fat, and then the carb demon

wants to take over and I fail. My last ditch solution is that if carbs are

calling me to the extent that I know I will give in, I eat those first and

then forbid myself from having anything high in fat. I can do it that way

(because the carbs are what I am craving anyway),but I can't eat the atkins

approved foods first because the carb just won't let me out of their grasp.

I don't know what is wrong with me.

I am drinking my water and I really have not gained, but I sure want to get

back under 140 again. That was my goal for valentine's day, but I don't

think I will make it. Good thing my cats will love me anyway.

Hope you have a great chocolate-free valentine's day!

we love you even if you have gained a few lbs. I think its the time

of year myself. I have been behaving myself but I could very easily

slip. I used to gain like 10 lbs in the winter months but not this

year. Hang in there I know you can do it.

Thanks, Laverne. I just don't know what it is lately. I did really well

yesterday though and so far so good today. I guess I need to get back to

challenging myself on everything that goes into my mouth. Incidentally, the

days I have struggled the most are also the days that I have had to work

hardest to get my appropriate amount of water in. No coincidence there.

Sorry to hear you are having a hard time staying legal lately. I'm a few

days behind. Hopefully things are going better for you at this point :-)

I have been doing very well since Wednesday and am down a few lbs to

show for it. It probably helps that my son has a stomach bug so I am very

busy taking care of him and not really thinking of food.

Better run, I just thought I would get in a quick hello while my little boy

is sleeping.

Andy,

No need to apologize! You've come to the right place. You should have

received in an e-mail a list of websites when you subscribed to this list.

If you still have that, look on it for a link to the LowCarb Retreat. It's

a fantastic resource. Also, there should be a link on it to a page that

contains the rules for induction, which is the first 2 weeks of the plan.

If you look in the footer of this e-mail, you'll find links to various parts

of our List's website at Yahoo. The Turtle Menues might interest you, as

well as the Files section which contains lots of recipes.

Welcome to the list. I know you'll get lots of good support here.

We would never laugh at you Carol! You did what most of us have done at one

time or another and the important thing is, you picked yourself up, dusted

youreslf off and got right back on track!

Good for you :)

Carol,

Thanks for sharing with us. I don't think there's very many

of us who haven't " been there, done that " before. I don't

know why we do these things either, but it happens. All we

can do is move onto the next meal and make better choices

then.

Good Luck,

A.

Carol, Carol, Carol, Honey you are not a pig. I slipped this week end

too. Just get back on the wagon. We are only human. Life goes on. At

least your not still eating them. I felt just awful yesterday from my

slip. We can do this Carol, and you know that. Now no more feeling

sorry for yourself.

Hi, Debbi! Welcome to the list.

There isn't a whole lot of difference between DADR and DANDR . . . the

newest version is somewhat more lenient about the induction period. You

could follow either with equal success. You'll pick up a lot of tips about

the most recent version just by reading this list.

For instance, the 2 week induction period limits carbs to 20 grams per day.

If you want to see what a typical induction menu looks, like, just look

below this message at the message footer where some of our best links are

listed, and click on the Turtle Menues link.

Ketostix are not necessary to the success of this way of eating. Some

people find them helpful for confirming when they are or are not in ketosis.

Others just guage ketosis by other indicators . . . foul smelling breath,

etc.

Enjoy the list and feel free to ask any questions that come to mind.

Holly, How about Horner syndrome, per Dorland's, sinking of the eyeball, ptosis
