Perhaps you and your wife should seek a second opinion with an RE

(Reproductive Endocrinologist). An RE is a specialist in infertility

whose goal is to preserve the uterus and fertility. I had a 13.7cm

fibroid removed through a myomectomy in Oct. I am not interested in

having any more children, but my surgeon is an RE. He believes that

no fibroid is too big to remove by myomectomy.

Best of luck to you.

Ruth Ann,

Actually, I am looking for a few Docs. I'm trying to

weigh my options and to find the best Doc. out there.

I have been on the " wait and see what happens list "

and now wish that I would have reacted sooner! My

monthly is like a blood bath and lots of clotting but

I am not anemic. My current Doc. did not put me on the

" wait and see list " another one did. Previous Doc.

Told to me to wait four months to see if I would

conceive, ironically, I did, and unfortunately it

ended in a miscarriage at 5 1/2 weeks. This previous

Gyno said that he would not contribute the fibroids to

my miscarriage, more like a chromosome defect since it

was so early. It has been a year since the miscarriage

and I have not conceived. Went to another Gyno had an

ultra sound and Gyno says NO problem, but, the nurse

that did the ultra sound said it looked like the

fibroids were pushing into the endometrium lining and

that might be my problem.(So far the Ultra Sound Nurse

has been right, the infertility specialist has

confirmed her assumption) Since the Gyno said she

" discussed " my case with her colleges and decided that

there wasn't a problem and that I needed to " wait and

See " HA! I finally decided to go to an infertility

specialist and he is the one who suggested the

myomectomy. He also mentioned a number of other

options, however, myomectomy is the best for me. Also

had a hysteroscopy done. I'm upset because I have

called several times to get info and my call has not

been returned. I'm not questioning his ability just

the " bedside manner " (I have been told that this

particular Doc is an excellent micro surgeon!)and I

want to get another opinion just to see if we are all

on the same page!! Don't want anyone cutting on me

until I know all the facts! Obviously, the fibroids

are causing a problem, my tubes are open and fine,

just haven't conceived since last year! However, I was

also told that I have a cyst on my right ovary but

that they are common and shouldn't be causing a

problem. I do have a second opinion on the 9th and

another on the 2 of May. (all three Docs are

infertility specialist) I'll make my decision sometime

in May. I'm also exploring FAS. The Docs that I am

working with right now are with Baylor and

Presbytarian. If you would like more info let me, be

glad to help. Best of luck, Sky

Hi and Brent,

you asked where I had the procedure done. I live in

upstate New York and had the procedure performed at

Albany Medical Center. The physican was Dr. Siskin.

I can not say enough about the the quality of care I

received from the doctors and nurses. I have a bit of

hospital phobia and felt that they were respectful of

that. I realize from your other posts that you live

in Texas and therefore are unlikely to come to New

York. Still, if I could simply say that it is of the

utmost importance that you shop doctors. Go with the

team that makes you feel comfortable with their

expertise, responsive to your concerns and respectful

of you as people. I felt that the Albany Med. team

delivered on all fronts. I too hope to conceive one

day had many large multiple fibroids that were

predominantly intramural. I still chose UFE honestly

because of the lack of invasiveness, short recovery

time, low rate of recurrence of fibroids and my own

comfort with the staff. I also had a consult with a

reproductive endocrinologist and left angry and

anxious. His office and staff felt cold and

impersonal. I have no regrets. We did determine

during the procedure that the uterine arteries were

the primary blood supply for the fibroids. That was

especially good news given our desire for children.

Hi and Brent-

I was just browsing through the posts and I saw your messages. I would

recommend you go to a reproductive endocrinologist and get his opinion. Is

your wife's fibroid causing symptoms? Some doctors recommend trying to get

pregnant before seeking treatment because of possible damage to the uterus.

I know it seems scary now but keep in mind that these things grow slowly and

are very common. There is a lot of info out there. See several doctors.

By the way, my husband and I experienced infertility for 6 years. We

currently have two children (one boy and one girl) who entered our lives at

birth through adoption. I wouldn't have it any other way. Best of luck to

you.

Amy

You should be able to obtain a copy of your x-rays or ultra sound. It's your

right to have a copy of your medical files. I have all 77 pages of my fibroid

experience. From the time I went into emergency to the report the doctor

wrote after surgery. I made sure my family doctor received a copy. So there

would be no question of my health history and my discussions with the doctor

for future care. Have you had either. I just had a follow up ultrasound a few

months. Turned out to be a cyst on my ovary. But it also showed two very

small fibroids in my uterine wall. It's your right to know how many and the

location.

Try your county hospitals for a doctor. The majority of the best are there

Hello Everyone,

Just wanted to check in to say hello! Also wanted to

ask if anyone has severe exhaustion due to their

fibroids? (or if running on empty is in my head) I do

lose a lot of blood during my cycle and have a lot of

cramping and clotting, but I am not anemic. (also

taking Anaprox for the pain) Is there anyone else with

similar symptoms? I don't have any pain other than the

pain that is associated with my monthly and always

being totally exhausted and not being able to

conceive. I have a second opinion scheduled with an

Reproductive Endocrinologist. My first Doc. who is an

Infertility Specialist (which is the same as a

Repoductive Endocrinologist) has suggested a

myomectomy. I'm having the myomectomy done sometime in

May or June (haven't set the date) Little nervous

about having surgery, never had surgery on anything,

the closest was the hysteroscopy that I just had.

Anyone out there with similar symptoms or feed back

would be much appreciated! SKY

SKY

hi sky,

about the exhaustion, i do feel that too. i think its

becos of the heavy flow which drains out the energy.

watch out so u dont get anaemic. my doc had me doing

blood tests every 2 mths just to be on the save

side... checking the haemoglobin level she says.

u take care now......jaen
