Stick with the doc in Tor. I had a nurse demand I sign a waiver before surgery

that I would okay for a hysterectomy if they opened me up and there was a

problem. Luckily my doc was there and told the nurse I was having a myo and she

had no right to demand I sign any waiver especially since I had been there the

day before and hand a pre-op with my gyn/fertility specialist. So go with the

doc in Tor. If your doc is just a surgen(the one at home) for some reason there

quicker to just take everything out than try to save things.

Hello,

My Doc is a Fertility Specialist and even demanded

that I sign a waiver like this for a Hysteroscopy. He

knows that I am wanting to have kids and that's the

reason I am seeing him. Actually, I have asked for

info twice with no results, like location of my

fibroids and size, how many etc. Can't seem to get the

info that I need. He actually told me to ask the Nurse

these Q's and he would get back to me or we would have

to set up another appointment. ( I had already waited

an 1 and a 1/2 to see him) Can't believe he had the

audacity to tell me that! I do have a second opinion

on the 9th. Do you have any suggestions or know any

Docs in the Dallas, Tx area? Thanks, Sky

Hi Ruth Ann,

My doctor mentioned that I had cysts on my ovaries, too. She didn't seem at

all concerned about it, so I decided not to be either. I was told it's common

and that they can come and go on a monthly basis.

Ruth Ann:

I totally understand your desire to hurry up and get your life back. The

symptoms of fibroids can be so all encompasing, you really get no escape!

I think you are right to try and explore your non-hysterectomy options

before going that route. (My personal opinion is that any gyn that tells

you they reserve myo's for those interested in having children is

intentionally misleading you--you are entitled to any medical procedure YOU

choose to treat your symptoms. For that reason alone, I would get another

doctor's opinion anyway).

Anyway, I know you are in a hurry to do something about this but let me

share that I think you will be SO MUCH HAPPIER with your ultimate decision

if you have a chance to discuss myomectomy and UAE with doctors (maybe a

few) that perform each of those. You may be able to find an Interventional

Radiologist to contact directly yourself by looking at the website for the

Society of Cardiovascular & Interventional Radiologists

http://www.scvir.org/patient/pci/index.htm. Yes, you will have to live

with your symptoms in the meantime but then, even if you do decide on

hysterectomy, you will feel that it was the right decision for you (not

just the convenience or pocket book of your doctor!)

For two years I've been researching my options--at times ready to pull the

trigger, like you because of terrible bleeding. Now that I've decided what

to do I feel totally in control of my health and my decisions and very

confident about my choice. While you are researching what to do, you might

get some short term relief from birth control pills to control the

bleeding--I got a good 6 months doing this. That might be all the time you

need.

One last thought, you didn't mention where your fibroid was, but if it was

in the uterine cavity (submucosal), you might also research hysteroscopic

resection of the fibroid, this is less invasive than traditional myomectomy

(and certainly hysterectomy), and may even be preferential than UAE for

this type of fibroid.

I know exactly how you feel and think you deserve to feel totally good

about whatever decision you make.

Good luck.

Hi,

My name is Ruth Ann. I am new to the group. This is my first time posting

anything. I live in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. I have aprx. a 10 to 12

week size uterus with a 3x4cm size hemoragic fibroid (last months

measurments) located at the top of my uterus. Although it is relatively

small by some standards it is growing rapidly and the ct I had done last

week showed it had increased in size considerably in just one month. Like

many of you, my fellow fibroid sufferers, I am experiencing sever pain and

extremly heavy bleeding and I am animic because of the abnormal internal, as

well as the unusual menstral bleeding. The fustration and the stress from it

all is draining. My quality of life has continued to spiral down hill as

the pain and bleeding continue to increase. I need your help. I have so

many questions that I know you brave and abundantly strong women can answer.

First of all, let me applaude your courage and commitment in helping

others. It isn't easy going on line and revealing so much of a personal

nature. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for having the fortitude.

Just knowing I am not alone is a tremendouse help! My problem is this: I

am not being successful in finding an IR in my area who does UAE's or albo.

Does any one out there know of anyone in the Dallas/ Fort Worth metroplex

area of Texas or even San , Texas who is doing them? My gyn wants

to do a hyst. In fact I have it scheduled for June 11th. I am only 33 and

have resevations about having a hyst done at this time. Fertility is not an

issue as I have all ready been blessed with four beautiful and thankfuly

healthy children. I do not plan on having any more. But, I would like to

find a good gyn in the area who's knee-jerk reaction " treatment " for

fibroids isn't to have a hyst done. I understand that if you leave the

overaries and just remove the uterus that you wont go into menapaus. Have

you ladies found this to be true? Have you been told by your gyn's that

they were going to leave your overies in and woken up to find that they took

them anyways? I've heard of this being done and wondered if there was a

high occurance. I read some of your postings and some of you ladies have

experienced menapause even with leaving your ovaries in. Is this correct?

I believe most of you were close to the usual age for menapause. I was

wondering if there was anyone in there 30's or so who have had this

experience. I know it is a personal choice and one I should talk to my gyn

about, but to you who have had UAE's or other treatments done, is it worth

the time and fustration trying to find somone to help me or should I resign

myself to having a hyst done and just get it over with? Would a myo help or

will it only buy me a little time and I'll end up needing a hyst anyways?

My gyn says they usually reserve myo's for those interested in having

children. As stated above I am done having my family. What do you

experienced ladies think?

Thank you in advance for all of your time and care.

Sincerely,

Ruth Ann - a woman who just wants her life back.

Ruth Ann - i can only tell you my own experience but it does seem like

ovarian cysts are fairly common - i was told of ovarian cysts seen on a trans

vaginal sonogram at the end of february but was told they looked like

" functional " cysts, hormonal in nature...my gyn did do a CA125 blood test to

rule out ovarian cancer and an endometrial biopsy as well a repeat sono a few

days ago to take another look - they were almost entirely gone - i was very

relieved...please be sure to address this issue before proceeding with any

treatment options...good luck in your journey for relief...Joan

I'm glad I could help!

I don't know anything about cysts on ovaries--but I'm sure some of the

other women here will have some info.

Good luck in your search.

Dear Sydney,

Thank you for your speedy and informative reply to my e-mail. I appreciate

it more than I can say. Thanks to the link you mentioned in your e-mail, I

now have a list of IR's in the area who do UAE. I am going to start calling

and screening them tomorrow. One thing I forgot to mention in my previous

wordy e-mail is that I also have a cyst on my right ovary. Is this common

to other fibroid sufferers? Thanks Again for your help!

Sincerely, Ruth Ann

Ruth Ann

You can go to the web site for the Society of Cardiovascular & Interventional

Radiology and look there for a Radiologist that does UAE's.

I took a quick glance there and found at least 19 Radiologist that indicate

they do UAE's in the area you are needing one: Dallas, Fort Worth and San

Texas.

Two of the many hospitals listed with the Radiologist were Methodist Medical

Center and Doctor's Hospital. There was many more than this too many to list.

The web site address is http://www.scvir.org. I live in Florida so I do not

know these doctors creditbility but maybe this will get you started in your

search.

Best of Luck

Patty

Frustration is something I know all too well and hope that this relieves just

a little of yours.
