Re: diet

Lee, I understand about the hypoglycemia... Let me tell you

that I

become like a drunk. IT is like I have had a dozen glasses

of hard

liquor. It sets me back for a few days.. major dizzy and

foggy

brained... HOwver.. the alcohol in the bach remedies does

not affect me.

Hello Chestnut!

Maybe Bach flower remedies would not affect me, either: I

have not

needed any since my " miracle cure " . Up until I got

diagnosed I was on

Bach flower remedies and homeopathic remedies 20 hours a

day, every

day. Haven't had any for 6 weeks now. Gosh look at the

money I am

saving, not to mention what I save on chocolate! I always

try to look on

the bright side.

An unexpeced side-effect of the cure is that I find myself

dissatisfied

with my boyfriend, who is a successful classical musician

(soloist). For

3 yrs I have idolised him. I was his puppy (or clown what

expression do

you use in the States?) and felt literally like I could not

live without

him. I mean unhealthy emotional dependence. For some reason

as I have

gotten better I feel less and less satisfied with inequality

in our

feelings for each other and the tiny crumbs of himself that

he gives me,

for which I used to be pathetically grateful, and I now

think I have

been a fool to be so besotted and to have given so much

love, care,

devotion, time and energy to someone who (it now seems

perfectly clear)

gives as little in return as he possibly can.

Has anyone else found that a rise in self-esteem which is

what I guess

it is, has made them dissatisfied with the people around

them?

Thank you for the info.

I am on a diet of mainly red meat and veg and little fruit but now and then

I feel like something really sweet. I do well on the red meat and veg, fruit

but the problem comes in when I go off it. I don't eat any sauces of bread.

I do eat brown rice 3 times a week.

Yes I found that and we very nearly broke up but we are still together (27)

years and he has changed heaps. I don't let him walk over me any more not

that he would do now. I was lucky he was willing to change.\

Judy, I know I would lose 40lbs. if I put my mind to it. I am down on pred

to 4mg./day so can't blame that. Unfortunately I get no nausea, lack of

appetite from mtx., plaq, celebrex, pred. I exercise every day as I go to

water aerobics every day. Unfortunately a group of us ladies have lunch

brought to us poolside. Not fresh fruit only of course. I find myself

buying candy, eat ice cream and popsicals. This is my true confession and

open confession. Forgive me my sins. I went on the hi protein, no carb and

lost 7lbs. in a wk. and gained it right back. I have to talk to myself, I

know it. Only I can do it. I gained 40 lbs when on pred hi dose, and should

lose it now. I am 160 fat lady. Amen Betty in VA

<<<i'm allowed to eat eggs, i might have them once a week!>>>

If you hard boil or poach your eggs you preserve lecithin in the egg white.

Lecithin is known to lower colesterol. When you fry the egg you destroy the

lecithin.

Hi Ed,

Welcome to the group.

> Has anyone had any luck with a change in diet?

Not for the P or PA, I haven't.

> I was told to cut

This dr sounds like the first dermatologist I saw back in the 70s! He wouldn't

let me use

hair spray, spices, cosmetics, etc. but it didn't help. Maybe your dr thinks

your problems

are caused by allergy?

> <snip> I hope I don't sound too dumb.

We've all been at the beginning, too, so how can you sound dumb?

I've heard it said that the only dumb question is the one you don't ask.

How can we learn if we don't ask questions?

<All of my fingernails and toenails are severely affected... I have

some solution for this, but I do not use it because I would rather deal

with ugly nails than wear cream-filled latex on my hands at night in my

sleep. >

Although it may some adjusting, it seems like you should try the med & gloves

to help control the P. It took me awhile to adjust to wearing a wrist splint at

night but now I miss it if it's not there.

<About 8 months ago the arthritis hit in my big toe on my left foot. It

has since spread to my second toe on my right foot, my pointing finger

on my right hand, and a couple of weeks ago it hit my lower back. I can

no longer run or do things that I used to enjoy.>

I can identify with that! Especially the part about not being able to do

things you enjoy, which is why I'm trying some of those drugs with the

side effects -- so I can do them again.

<My doctor is not great it seems.>

You have to " shop " for a good doctor like anything else that's important to you.

<He said there were some other drugs, but the side effects to my liver and

kidneys would be worse than the arthritis.>

I'm sure others in the group will have plenty to say about that comment but

many of us have had to choose those drugs to keep moving.

BTW, our eldest son (30) lives in Austin & works as a programmer.

He has a lot of trouble with his neck and lower back but I haven't been able to

get him to a rheumy yet; he prefers a chiropractor who uses the activator; he's

been very fortunate to find one who's very gentle and understanding.

Hang in there, neighbor, and you'll find your way?

Well, I got my own question answered today (re: eggs). I went to see a

Naturopath/Kinesiologist today. I tested positive for allergies to

chicken/eggs, calcium, vitamin B, sugar, corn, grains, salt(?), all the

things that feed candida, I guess. This makes sense since I heard that

candida creates allergies which create addictions to those same foods. Seems

that candida creates an addiction for the foods it feeds off of through

allergies, perhaps.

Anyway, my Naturopath told me Candida has infected all of my major organs

except the heart. This includes: brain, thyroid, pancreas, spleen, liver,

kidneys, bladder, intestines, colon, reproductive organs....gee, what am I

missing? I believe it's in my appendix as well, but I don't remember her

saying that.

Anyway, I'm sort of depressed, relieved, and skeptical all together :///

Hi Ed,

Yes I have had some substantial success with a change in diet.

I started out by eating only fish, veggies, fruit and rice (excluding citrus

and nightshades, and I'm now including some citrus, oats, children and eggs.

I instantly noticed a decrease in my pain level and fatigue. It's not a

cure, but it has certainly helped.

The major problem with this diet is sticking to it. I'm told by my

specialist that I'll only have to go off some foods for a while, but red

meat, dairy and wheat will possibly always be a problem..... I don't care

if I feel this much better.

However having said that I am still having problems with inflammation in the

eyes and extreme flare ups if I do exercise more aggressive than walking.

But on the positive I never ever get morning pain and stiffness any

more.....and I'm not so tired at night as I use to be............more energy

to do things.....this is fabulous as for so long I have been too

tired.....subsequently too isolated.

If you are interested in diet, I can let you know a few good books to try.

It has definitely helped me.

Thanks for your support, Lee (in regards to my visit to the naturopath). I

went again on Wednesday and she changed the way my body reacts to the chicken

and eggs so they are not treated like a toxin when ingested. I have to say I

do notice a difference (I have eaten eggs since). On Monday I go back and

she will change the way my body reacts to calcium.

I think my problem is that I want something objective. I want a blood test

or something so that IN CASE I ever want to sue one or all of my ex-doctors I

can say: " See, this is how bad my candida was. " At this point, I don't have

much interest in suing. I just want to get better! However, when I think

about all of my LOST YEARS, I get angry and sad. And I want to keep that

option open for the future. The problem is that the naturopath can't draw

blood. She can give me a kit for a urine analysis (cost $200) and I can send

it to a lab, but I just don't see this as having much " legal " clout if I do

want to sue at some point.

Anyone have any suggestions?

<I really need tips how to start the diet.<<

Hi ,

What I recommend is the Trowbridge diet, accompanied by probiotics and antifungals...I have been using Nystatin vaginal cream and powder. The first time I started the diet, I got rid of my vaginal yeast symptoms for the first time in two years. Then I made the mistake of adding beans to the diet and I have had problems ever since.

If you are strict with the diet, you will experience some die-off effects (I had a lot), then you will feel great. I highly recommend the Trowbridge book ("The Yeast Syndrome") to get the full scoop on the program. He has lots of recommendations, plus a list of physicians.

If anyone else has had experience with this diet, please include opinions!

This is a four phase diet, Trowbridge recommends phase one for a month, which is how I started. Phase one is called the MEVY diet: meat, eggs, vegetables, yoghurt

I´ll give you a simplified food list, leaving out the fancy stuff. You´ll get the idea.

alfalfa sprouts

asparagus

bean sprouts

bell pepper

bok choy

broccoli

cauliflower

collard greens

kale

kohlrabi

carrot

chayote

celery

cucumber

eggplant

garlic

jalapeños

jicama

lettuces

onion

radish

red sweet pepper

shallot

spinach

squashes

zucchini

string bean

tomatillo

tomato

yucca

basil

allspice

borage

cardamom

chamomile

chive

clove

coriander

cumin

dill

ginger

ginseng

hibiscus tea

horseradish

licorice

menthol

mint

nutmeg

oregano

paprika

parsley

peppercorns

peppermint

pimiento

rosemary

saffron

sage

spearmint

tarragon

tumeric

vanilla

agar agar

aloe vera

green tea

guava

herbal teas

rhubarb

safflower oil

salt

sunflower

tamarind

Meat from the following groups: poultry (meat and eggs), crustaceans, mammals, reptiles, fish

I don´t go into detail because he includes every imaginable meat here.

He even includes sausages, though I have been warned against them in other diets...I would stay away from them.

Dairy: goat´s milk and cheese, YOGHURT, butter

NO: avocado, peas, potato, soy products, corn products, rice in phase one. These are all added in phase 2

Trowbridge advises against olive oil in phase one, but I have read so many positive comments on olive oil for people with candidiasis.

I was very hungry this first month, but learned to fill up on veggies and more veggies. I also recommend blending plain yoghurt to make shakes. That way you can consume more. It´s a filling snack between meals.

Let us know what you think...maybe together we can come up with something better.

Good luck,

Holly
