We have started with diabetes and plan to add asthma, childhood immunizations and adult prevention by the end of the year. It means looking at your patients as a population group as opposed to individuals. Such as what percentage of our diabetics are at a HGBA1C goal of less than 7. This includes all our patients even the ones who only come in once in a great while. We attended a very good conference from the AAFP on how to start this. We set up a diabetic flow sheet in our emr. This includes things like HGBA1C, lipids, BP, eye exam, foot exam and test for microalbumin. We then started with all the diabetics who were being seen for any reason and these patients got a copy of their flow sheet with how they compared with what our targets are. We then either addressed their diabetes at this visit or scheduled a special diabetes visit. Now we are starting to go through our patient lists and sending reminders to the people who haven't been in for a while that they are overdue for a visit. I am suprised at how patients respond when they get get a written report card on their diabetes. It is very motivating for a lot of them. Larry LIndeman MDLarry: What disease and what management? How are you tracking things? Larry Lindeman <llindemanmac> wrote:We recently stumbled on something useful. We have recently started some chronic disease management. To readily identify who has diabetes prior to the visit we have been printing out a patient summary on every patient the day before their visit. It was an easy way to plan ahead who needs what. Our patient summary lists the patient demographics along with a problem and meds list. Our ma soon discovered that it was useful to have the patient review this when they arrive to make sure that their address and insurance information is accurate. We then noticed that the patient was also reviewing the diagnosis and meds lists for accuracy. When I saw the patient they were telling me any meds they had gotten from the specialist that I didn't know about. We also give a copy of the patient summary to the patient after the visit to any one who is travelling or anyone who wants one. I would like to start giving people a flash usb drive with their summary in pdf format to keep with them on their keychain in case they end up in the er. We will probably start this next year. By the way I am finding chronic disease management both rewarding and disappointing. I love improving the care of my patients but I am disappointed at myself at all the patients I am discovering that have fallen through the cracks.Larry Lindeman MDCheap Talk? Check out Yahoo! Hi All,

We are new to this group. I've got two children on the spectrum, a 5 year old and a 7 year old. I've been trying to read through old posts and the files. I keep seeing stuff about a connection between fungus, bacterial and viral issues. My kids have been using Houston enzymes for awhile now. the AFP Peptizye is an "all fungal protease" enzyme. Should we be using this type of enzyme? Anyone using it or used it in the past? Just wondering if I am sabotaging all the hard biomed work we have been doing for the past few years.

One more question for now. My son is very OCD and has done verbal stimming FOREVER. He also does "sky writing" when he doesn't have access to pen/paper for drawing. Are these typical viral symptoms? Our DAN! has never been able to help us with this. He's just given us the "ok" to do a trial of Valtrex and we should be starting that soon.

Is this the Dmsa chelation study?

<www.usautism.org/USAAA_Newsletter/usaaa_newsletter_special_edition_news_release_080207.htm>

Major Medical Announcement to be Delivered at International Autism Conference

Study On Autistic Children Show Significant Clinical Improvements

Salt Lake City, UT & Louisville, CO – US Autism & Asperger Association, Inc. (USAAA) holds its annual International Autism and Asperger Conference in Denver, Colorado, August 8-11, 2007. Today, USAAA announced that a major medical announcement will be presented at the conference regarding a study on autistic children that showed significant clinical improvements in many core areas including language, socialization, cognitive awareness, and decreased irritability. This intervention has been used with clinical success in several other chronic neurological conditions including cerebral palsy, fetal alcohol syndrome, closed head injury, and stroke.

I'm very much looking forward to the announcement: especially the link with other chronic neurological conditions. United we stand...

They are enticing people to go to "The Conference" or at

least to sign up to "The Webcast." It will certainly be worth

it just to listen to STAN.

I hope it is HBOT; and if we are really lucky the other therapies that

it synergises with; or methods of developing HBOT synergies to suit

each child.

, Thanks for sharing this.  Please let us know what it is as soon as you can write.  This is exciting.  Wish I could go hear it myself.  We have tried EVERYTHING with my son but we are keeping on trying.  Maybe this will be something to really help.  Let's hope so.  Kristy<www.usautism.org/USAAA_Newsletter/usaaa_newsletter_special_edition_news_release_080207.htm>Major Medical Announcement to be Delivered at International Autism Conference Study On Autistic Children Show Significant Clinical ImprovementsSalt Lake City, UT & Louisville, CO – US Autism & Asperger Association, Inc. Petition = write to the pool owners or managers asking them to change

the disinfection; by yourself or with a bunch of other swimmers.

Good luck. Sometimes it works.

I

do real estate closings for a living so I’m often offline the last week

of every month. That’s why you don’t hear from me then in

particular. I’ve been clear for 3 years. My life seems to be a roller

coaster most of the time, calm & smooth sometimes then WHAM a bunch of

stuff piles up on me and I get overwhelmed. Part of it is financial and family

(my son is on the road back from delinquency, but is still surrounded by drama

which somehow runs off onto me), my daughter is in college and I hate that I

can’t help her with it financially. Medically, in the last 7 months, I’ve

been dealing with pre-diabetes (caused by tx, we believe); we can’t get

the right dose on my thyroid meds ever since tx; a bad PAP (not cancer, but

still not normal 6 months later); a bad mammogram (turned out OK on the 2nd

round), continuing pain on my lower left since 2003; acid reflux; 2 reactions

to allergy shots; pneumonia; a colonoscopy next week; and now pain in both my

shoulders.

I

tend to get very overwhelmed and depressed during the high piles-ups of stuff.

I’m on anti-de’s which helps most of the time. I could deal with

any of it one or two at a time. But sometimes when it all hits me at once, I

just fall apart. I deal with it by praying and reminding myself that this,

too, shall pass. It’s a temporary condition. And I AM a dragon slayer extraordinaire.

Hi

People

What's new - how if life and your HCV treating you ?????

Re: RE:

Its no wonder with there being so many of us here -- I live in Texas in the Dallas/Ft. Worth Metroplex. I moved here after living in Austin, TX for 14 years to be near my family about 2 years ago.

Since moving here, God blessed me with a the love of my life, Ted, and in February we will have been married for 1 year! He's a jewel about the Hep C and will be a great tx partner when I start tx in January. I go next week on December 5th to get my tx instructions and to get the ball rolling.

Motley wrote: Sorry for the delay in responding. I had a colonoscopy yesterday and slept most of the day afterward. What email program are you using? I will set up detailed instructions. BTW, they removed 3 more polyps and are sending to the lab. I had pre-cancerous polyps in 2003, and am a bit concerned this time as it’s only been 1.5 years since my last one (due to poor prep last

time) and they didn’t find any then, so it seems like these might have appeared rather quickly compared to last time, but maybe they just missed them because of the insufficient prep. I’ll have the labs in a week or so. .

Of

course, I will. I should know something Monday. I’m hoping the worst

will be pre-cancerous (like last time) and they’re gone now, so no problems,

except I have to have the colonoscopies every 3 years instead of 10 like normal

people.

I am not angry at anyone for not treating,If they are fully aware of what can happen by waiting. This disease ages you very fast.Your young enough to go through treatment pretty easy as long as you pace yourself and have your priorities in order during treatment.Us older ones know what happens with waiting,we had no choice cause there was no treatment until the past 10 yrs.By treating now when you are young, your life will be bright for a long time to come.Think about it,I am 63,had treatment at 54-55 and feel like 80.Just trying to save you the same fate.Take care and I am glad you are sensative,it makes you a bigger person.

Re: Re: why treat

That is good for you to say that, But do you thank if you gotting treatment when you had HAV and HBV that it woundn't grow up to be HCV. Because myself I'm going into treatment, Because I have a long life to live for me and my family member. I pray to God that the treatment will work for me. If it don't I know that I tried.seatacone wrote:

i chose no treatment for now...am i the only one? and seriously is treatment truly worth a year + of ones life. i've had it 10 years and never knew it??????????????????????????????????You are not the only one!!I was diagnosed in 1998 while applying for life insurance. I had Hep-B when I was 16 years old and since have been diagnosed with non A non B up until 1998 and the insurance thang.Being 52 now, I can only guess I have been carrying this virus for, Hmmmm. 36 years.... I have not had a biopsy, do not know my viral load and really don't care. Only symptoms are occaisional dull pain in upper right abdomen and... really nothing else aside from the aches and pains that come with agingI believe I will die with the disease, not of it. I refuse to allow Hep C to dominate my existence and find a certain morbid humor in those that do gail <gaila@....ca> wrote:
