Hell, I have Autism: The Musical playing in my house 24/7.

Gavin " sings " all the time, sometimes its nice singing (he has perfect pitch and a great voice)

but most times its a stimmy/buzzy/singing that drive me up a freaking wall and makes me want to poke my ears with a screwdriver.

A friend of mine mysteriously lost his hearing last year, I told him if they come up with a way to do hearing transplants that he can have mine :)

Oh and Liam can join in, even though he is not autistic he has learned how to " play " autistic. He runs arouns like Gavinm doing all the sounds and moves... actually I about peed myself the other day when he started flicking a pen like Gavin does... (Hand flapping subsituting a pen for the other hand).

I should charge admission.

"The Holocaust Denier".

Hi Lenny

My son (age 10) walked up to his piano a few nights ago and out of the

blue he just started playing " you light up my life " <...choke...>

Here's a kid who spends 3 hours staring at the lines in the paint on

his bedroom door - he still can't hit the toilet, but he can hit

(almost :-) all the right notes on the keyboard.

I think I know where you're coming from - we're far from experiencing

any of the " great fun " of autism that I've heard so much about lately

- but I'm wondering how I'd feel if my kid were in that movie - the

whole kid - including the stims, the pee accidents, the noise

meltdowns, all that stuff - along with the music.

Is it possible that maybe he is? Maybe these guys have a half-way

decent effort here, but they just picked a really really really bad title?

Or maybe it's as offensive as the title suggests - I dunno - I just

keep hearing that song and how proud I am of the little guy and it

makes me smile

Let me preface this by saying I had to pull the shower curtain to wash

at 2am because my daughter decided rubbing her butt cheeks up & down

the shower curtain after taking a dump would be more beneficial than

using toilet paper. I'm no stranger to the downs of autism.

That said, I enjoy my daughter immensely. I would be honored to

showcase her accomplishments. She can't play a piano or do anything

savant, but looking into her gorgeous eyes seems to take precedence

for me over the rest.

For many of us our kids will grow into adults with autism. I

personally want a society perpared to embrace them. If it takes a

video showing the beauty people with autism have, then so be it. I'll

take that any day over the prior " let's hide 'em away " emotion people

have.

Sometimes I think of Jeff Foxxworthy's, " You Might Be A Redneck " ,

except using the word autism to replace redneck. Debi, here's one for

you: If yewwwwwww have ever warshed your shower curtain in the middle

of the night because your child used it to wipe his/her butt,

Oh- I like this game.

If you ever had to buy diapers for a 6 yrs old- then you might have a child with autism.

If you ever had to buy babyfood for a 7 year old- then you might have a child with autism.

If you got excited when your kid said the F word- then you might have a child with autism.

If you have to buy cookies online- then you might have a child with autism.

I could go on all day....

I dunno. I raised three NT boys as a single mom and there wasnt a day that these things didnt occur. On top of wrecking furniture, walls, leather interior of car, eating jacks, putting cheerios up each others noses, legos in the vcr, they had "male domination issues" or so my 8 year old told me... I was living 'Please Dont Eat the Daisies' and learned to laugh as well as cry. Now I am marrying a man and adopting his severely autistic ten year old son as my own. He is amazed that I can stomach the peculiarities of this darling handful in pull-ups, OC terror with food and paper, head-banging, stimming. It's easy I tell him, "HE IS A BOY". Boys are naturally difficult and contrary, its a healthy part of them.

No one said it was going to be easy. My advice: Get over it and Love them More!!!!************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.

If your eleven year old has his pants and his shirt on inside out

and backwards..then you might have a child with autism.

If every pair of underwear your kid owns has stains from skidmarks

becuase he doesn't wipe very good or even at all for that

matter..then you might have a child with autism.

If you own every Disney book, DVD, toy, or anythng imaginable that

Disney sells...then you might have a kid with autism.

If you watch the credits over and over again, but never get to see

the actual movie on the Diseny DVD because your kid stims on the ads

before the movie over and over again...then you might have a kid with

autism.

If your good silver, wine glasses, cups, saucers, plates, spatula's

and every other kitchen utensil are sitting at the bottom of the

lagoon, hurled by your autistic kid who is endlessly entertained and

amused by watching them fly up - then down into the bottom of the

deep lagoon...

If you get in the car at midnight to find a 24 hour Wal-Mart to buy

a gallon of bubbles, and a couple of six packs of ping pong balls to

be bounced down the steps endlessly to delight and entertain your

kid in the middle of the night...

If you ever have to write in "NO VACCINES OR THIMEROSAL CONTAINING PRODUCTS" on camp medical emergency or hospital consent forms......you might have a child with autism.

If you ever had to argue for 5 minutes with your child's pediatrician over saying "NO!" to a tetanus booster......you might have a child with autism

If you are buying a new DVD/VCR combo player approximately 4 times a year.......you might have a child with autism.

If your child refuses to get into an elevator.....you might have a child with autism

If you are watching the credits to the videos so much that you actually notice the name of your friend and find out, yes, that's what she used to do for a living before HER child was dx with autism.....I'd say you definitely have a child with autism.

This one is a little scary...

You are awoke in the middle of the night with your child standing over

you with a knife in one hand, and an apple in the other...you might

have a child with autism.

These are great... I thought of some more.

When you have to put a lock on your fridge...

When you get to cut the line at Disney...

When you have to buy backups of videos, because if one breaks it’s the end of the world...

When you have a “stim closet” where you put all of the trains and cars....

When your child cries during “Happy Birthday” and covers his ears....

When your child hates candy, soda, ice cream and potato chips...

When you have to bring a cooler of food and drinks wherever you go....

When you child wants to ride the rollercoaster 50x’s in a row...

When your child won’t open a birthday present....

When your child cuts his head open and doesn’t cry....

When you have a sticker on your car that says “Demand Vaccines with Mercury”

(that one is for you - lol)

I'm in stitches, I love the stim closet one and the cooler. Classic

If your child acts like a heroin addict after eating pizza, cake, and

ice cream at a birthday party, you might have a kid with autism.
