Catwalk -- the very high scaffolding in the upper recesses of the

theatre, or the high, treacherous small walks around buildings or other

structures.

I know what you two were thinking, you perves. But, no, it is not the

sidewalk in front of a cathouse.

Hi Tim,

Welcome to this helpful, crazy and fun group. I am 3 months out and have

had a wonderfully unremarkable recover. Dr. K is the best. I am going to

my 3 month apt in Vegas and I can't wait to see him. Ask us anything,

everybody is helpful and very open. Since I live in Wisconsin, I can't

attend any support group meeting and these guys are my support group.

Good luck to you,

There are scattered journal articles about puberty being a time of immune system

restart. Something to do with the

hormones that are released. But we have also heard of children who lose

function and develop a deficiency at puberty.

So basically nothing could happen or it could make or break a PID child (whom we

affectionately call our PID

" Pumpkins " ).

Hi all,

I stumbled upon this group yesterday when I was looking for information on Aspergers Syndrome. My eldest son (aged 5) had recently had a preliminary diagnosis of having this and a personality disorder *sigh* Life sure knows how to kick us in the guts. this groups apealed to me as within our family I am sure we could write a medical textbook or two. Besides my son, I have two other children. My daughter (4 years in October) has congenital hip displaysia. She was cleared of it after 18 months treatment, it is now starting to show its head again and she is looking at surgery as soon as we can find an orthopedic surgeon we are happy with. Our baby boy (2.3) has major allergies, he reacts to smells and has an extremely restricted diet. He is also one of only 5 children diagnosed in Tasmania (this statistic was 12 months ago so could be more that we haven't been made aware of) with multiple food protein intollerance syndrome. Meaning basically what he isn't allergic to he is intollerant to.. makes feeding the tribe "interesting" He is also suspected of missing a growth hormone but at the moment he is pretty young and the docs are more concerned with his allergies and diet, his height can hold off just a bit. He is turning 3 in February and still wearing size 0 clothing.. almost size 1s but not quite.... My husband has a history of allergies himself and epilepsy (been cleared 5 years yaaayy!!!) and myself, I have endometriosis and adenomyosis. What a mix hey!!!

I just realised I haven't intro'd myself, I am Katrina (treena to my friends). I am married to , recently celebrated our 6th wedding anniversary.. doesn't time fly!!! We have 3 children, Aleksandir 5yrs, Kahli almost 4 and 2.5yrs. we all live in Tasmania, Aust (not sure where this list is based so better mention that heheh) We basically try to stick to ourselve, with problems with airborne allergies it makes visiting and roaming a bit difficult. Anyways this is us, I look forward to "meeting" other people in this group and hopefully finding a home where I can glean a bit of information and a little support :)

Take care all, I look forward to finding more about you all soon..

Welcome!

Every state has a different home care delivery system. First, find out what

kind of long-term care your goddaughter's insurance covers. Most cover nothing

beyond short-term hospice or convelescence care, but you never know. If they do

cover long-term home care, find out if they require a CNA or a LVN, etc. Most

would only hire through a registry.

Otherwise there are ways to access Medicaid-funded homecare. The most common

way to do this without the parents quitting thier jobs to become finanially

eligible, is to use a Beckett Model Waiver (called CDCSP [formerly TEFRA]

in WV). Then you jump through whatever hoops to become a service provider.

Here are some links to explore:

My niece, age 11, is now financially independent of her parents here in CA under

the Model Waiver and so has Medi-Cal (Medicaid) and home care. A nurse comes in

and also Grandma gets paid as her attendant through In-Home Supportive Services

(a CA program).

Good luck!

In NY it's a Medicaid Waiver. I have been independent of my parents

under this since age 14. It's really the only way to receive the

necessary services unless the parents have a really really nice

insurance plan - even with that, it's difficult to receive long-term

care.

You need the proper respiratory equipment right away, as a start. At

her condition level I would think as a minimum she should have a

pulse-oximeter, cough machine, and something like a BiPAP (to expand her

chest cavity to prevent that deformity caused by a lack of lung

expansion). You should pursue that stuff immediately!!! Also, have the

PT stretch her hips, knees, etc. to minimize contractures.

HI everyone,

I will admit I'm new to the list and a lurker, or WAS a lurker..but

not anymore. When I wrote to to tell her why I wanted to become

a part of this wonderful list my god-daugther () was in the

process of having tests run to find out if she has SMA. We got the DNA

results on Monday. It was positive. I'm her god-mother and babysitter

2-3 days a week. To tell you a little about her, she's 6 months old. She

moves her hands, arms, legs, feet and head. Her head is normally in a

forward or backward position..but in the past few weeks of working with

her, she will now swing her head to one side to get it upright. She has

no sucking problems nor eating problems. She even just started jar baby

food and LOVES it. She has a con-caved chest (sorry...don't know the

exact medical name) and has not had any colds or have had to be

hospitalized. She blows bubbles, rasberry's, and likes movements (like

her swing)and bats a toys in front of her. She can sit up right with

assistance and we are getting her to slowly work her neck muscles. She

does not roll over or bring her feet up to play with them or anything.

She is in the process of getting into a program with a PT, OT amd dev

specialist. I want to know how I can continue to take care of her..and

make it more like a profession. Her mom and dad both work (and need to

work to have medical insurance). I work with her each day I'm here and

am really looking forward to finding out what exercises they recommend I

do with her. I was laid off from work one month after she was born so, I

take care of her with her grandmother (on the days I'm not here). My

unemployment is running out and knowing that she will need someone here

to take care of her has me thinking of becoming a CNA. BUt I'm not sure

how i would get paid. I just keep thinking...I don't want her to be

somebody's 9-5 job..I have a vested interest and personal love to help

her. I have been doing non-stop internet research on SMA since her

neurologist suspected it was SMA. I just got a thick packet from the

families of SMA and have continued to read though out the nights. Any

suggestions anyone has would be GREATLY apperciated!!! Sorry to make

this introduction so long!! Have a great day. Kathy Young from WV

Welcome to the gang Ann!

I just started my challenge last Monday so I am kinda new here too

altho I lurked around for a couple of weeks first!

Anything you need is right here and whenever you feel like spouting

off you can do that too! LOL(note my earlier post!!!)

Congratulations on starting today!

Good Luck

Dorina

> Hi--

> I'm another newbie--great list BTW. I've been lurking for about a

week and getting my feet wet with BFL, but my official start date is

TODAY! I took the photos (hmmm...didn't realize my butt looked quite

that big!) and my starting BF is 31%, so I'm looking for some big

changes. I'm not going for a perfect body...I just want to lose

about 12 lbs of fat and get down to about 23% BF eventually. I also

recently tested high for cholesterol for the first time in my life,

so I'd like to get that under control too. I made my hubbers get his

BF done too, and he was also shocked. I can't convince him to lift

weights, but I think I've convinced him to watch his diet a bit

more.

awesome, welcome :-) Don't worry that you haven't convinced your

husband to start yet, when he sees how well you are doing he won't be

able to help himself after a while :-) And the eating is such a big

part of it, that it's a good thing he's at least started that.

Looking forward to hearing more about your progress!

Hi Ann -

Welcome to the group! I think your goals are totally achieveable, and if

you stick strictly to the program I would bet you can do it in one 12-week

challenge. Have you posted your photos? When you hit the 4 week mark and

take some progress photos maybe you can do it then so we can all oooh and

ahhh over your progress :-).

And to just let you know who I am, I'm 33, SAHM with 2 kids aged 5 and

almost 2.

Congratulations! We are the same age and around the same weight (I'm

5'7 " ). I too, have done all of the diets...low-carb, South Beach,

weight watchers, mid-life diet, etc., I have never been able to go

more than 4-5 days without a binge on any program. Yes, I have lost

and gained a million times. Granted, I am only in week 2, but have

not had one slip or binge. I did overeat on my free day (Sunday) but

will re-evaluate what I am going to eat next Sunday. I really didn't

want junk or sweets but " knew " if I didn't, I crave it during the

week. I was so shaky and miserable Monday doing my upper body

exercises that I thought I was going to have to stay home from

work!! I came out of it and hopefully, as time passes, I'll become

wiser and stronger. For me, this program has been excellent. My top

goal is not to binge! I have gotten on the scales but am limiting

myself to once weekly. That's tough but I am determined to succeed.

This board is motivational and inspirational! Good luck!!

I think the hardest thing I ever tried was LA weight loss. Even the

carb cravers program was the pits. You had to eat exactly what it

said to eat whether you wanted to or not. It just set me up to binge

because when I would mess up I would feel so defeated I would just

eat horribly the rest of the week..

Glad to hear you are doing so well! I am ready to get started. I

got all my protein and good foods and the proper mind set.(finally)

haha

Yes don't weight. I know it sets me up for failure. I would even go

as far as taking water pills if it showed a gain. It was not good

news. Keep going and don't focus on a number on the scale. I am

going to buy some goal jeans and hang them where I can see them every

day and try them on about once a month or so.

Hi Jax,

Welcome to the group!!! I'm Helen, 53, from Ohio, have 22 illnesses, a son

34 and a daughter 30, three grand daughters 9, 8 and 6... Hubby of 36 years

:o)

Do you have any helpers in your neighborhood that can take you to town when

you need to go??? Churches and senior groups have folks that do that for

others for free or for the cost of gas in a lot of towns... (I know your not a

senior, and neither am I, but I Still get the AARP and social security junk

mail, do you???) :o)

We had a lovely Dalmatian also, but she passed away almost three years ago

at the age of 12 from heart failure, and I DO miss her so much, she was my

shadow... She knew when I was having a bad day and when I needed extra

lovins...

She would climb right up onto my lap and try to curl up on it just like a

lap puppy :o) That would never work, she was just too big, so I would go to the

couch and she would lay on the couch with her head in my lap... Oh God I do

miss her :o(

Time for nicer thoughts :o) I will be so Glad when Spring gets here!!! I

seen my First Robin Today!!! Yayyyyyyyy... A mile down the road I then seen

a whole flock! So hopefully winter here is just about over with :o)

Keep us posted as to how your doing...

((( Welcoming Hugs )))

Helen

Hello everyone,.....my name is Jax [Jackie] and I live in Oregon in a

little town called Aurora. It was founded many years ago by a Mennonite

preacher who name the town after his daughter. I am not Mennonite, but

there are a dozen or more Antique shops that sell Mennonite wares. They

are famous for their beautiful handcrafted quilts.

Steve my husband and Max my Dalmatian and I have lived here for 2 years,

but we may have to move closer to a bigger city before long. As my

illnesses get worse I find living in the country hard to manage. I don't

drive anymore, so I am kind of stuck without much help around.

So I occupy my time with playing games on the computer, and Scrabble is

probably my favorite. I watch 3 soaps, All My Children, One Life to

Live, and General Hospital. When they are over I switch over to Star

Trek Next Generations.

Max is a great companion and he just turned 12 in Dec. He has some

Arthritis too, so we hobble along together.

My kids are grown. Tina is 30 and lives about 20 mins from me with her

fiancee Cliff. They will be getting married in 2005. My son is

28 and lives with them right now while he is going to Medical School,

and trying to reconcile with his wife. They have 2 daughters who are the

love of my life. is 4 yrs., and Skylar Rose is 2 yrs.

So precious.

I'm really not into Astrology much, but its fun sometimes to read my

horoscope. I am a Leo, and even tho I don't believe in it, its amazing

how most people fit their sign.

I have constant pain in my muscles, and many joints. With having MS I

also have Central Pain which when it flares makes me want to die. I have

a lot of fatigue and stiffness with everything too. I take Roxicet,

Valium for the spasms, and I use a pain Gel called, SoreNoMore. I found

it on the internet, and if any are interested in learning more about it,

they have a web site. Just put sorenomore in a search engine and it

should come up. Its all natural, and actually works pretty good for some

of my pain. I'm also going thru menopause and it has compounded

everything. I'm 53 and I'm hoping it won't be too much longer before

everything calms down, meaning my hormones. lol...

Guess thats it for tonight. Thankyou for everyone's welcome. Welcome to

the other newbies, and Happy Birthday to the March birthdays.

Hugs, Jax [Jackie in NW Oregon]

Hi ,

Nice abs! You're going to have a great transformation. Can't wait to see the

after pics.

Newbie

Newbie here. Well, I should say newbie posting. I have been lurking

for a couple of years now and actually did a 12 week challenge in

2002 with nice results. I am so mad that I didn't take any pictures.

Anyhow,I slipped back to old ways and I am now ready to start again.

This time with pictures. They are located in the file labeled

/before.
