And welcome to you se! But I am afraid you are now an addict and these

people on the list do NOT help in getting you cured! Enjoy every batch of soap

you make. My sister always laughs when I say that I know everyone of my soaps

and give them names!

You are in for learning experience and the most generous, helpful group in the

world!

Just checking in before I leave....thought I'd grab this one

I also have carpal tunnel, but it isn't very bad yet. Alternating

heat and ice help me, anti-inflammitories are wonderful if not

necessary. Go to the drug stores and you will find these spandex-

looking wrist supports, wear them when you type or other things that

cause pain. Sleep with your arms above the level of your heart (and

the splints)

There are also good surgeries for this now, my step-father has had

the surgery is both his hands and is doing well. As for natural,

well....I just don't know. If you mean some kind of supplement, I'd

have to look that one up, but I think glucosamine and chondroitin

would be recommended in that case. Whenever I have any kind of

injury to a joint I think back to my soccer playing days. RICE.

Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation.

Good luck!

PS...forgot to welcome you...sorry...leaving for a trip in about an

hour. Welcome and have fun here, it is a great group of people, more

like a family than anything else.

Sometimes preventative measures can do wonders- consider changing

little things, like buying ergonomically designed kitchen equipment

(like parking knives, can openers, etc- anything that puts repeated

pressure on the wrists that way) and computer equipment- like

a " split " keyboard (ergonomically designed again), and a GOOD gel

type wrist pad for both keyboard and mouse- everything you do that

effects the carpal tunnel, try and lessen the 'damage' those things

do!

Hey Newbie, I'm sorry I havent said Hi! yet. I'm a scatterbrain.

I can highly reccomend the Black & Decker " Ergo " can opener. It is

wonderful, easy, rechargable little hand model- got it cheap, at Wal

Mart. It has really helped me, I used to have to ask someone to open

cans for me about half the time.

Dont whisk.

If you use a heavy pan, like cast iron, always use both hands to pick

it up, and get your grip from above, not the side- so your arm

muscles are working, not your wrist.

Oh yea, and sorry, washing windows is out too. Bummer, huh?

We have a joke here about " going Viking on it " , which just means

eating with your hands like an animal on a piece of meat. But

seriously, sometimes cutting meat when your wrists & hands hurt is

just too much work. If nobody's watching.......

I will try to pay attention, I have learned to adapt pretty well I

guess to a lot of hand & wrist pain, and I still cook for a horde-

once in a while. There is usually an easier way to do things, or a

machine to do it for you. Oh, I almost forgot, I got an electric

potato peeler, they call it a stripper- but then they invented

instant mashed potatos, so I dont get it out much.

Take the easy way.

Hi Dani-lyn,

Glad you found us :o) I'm Helen from Ohio :o) That's how they treated my carpal tunnel in the beginning, then I ended up wearing the braces day and night... I eventually had surgery on the left wrist, but they figured the right wrist was due to poly nueropothy and degenerative arthritis...

How are you coping??? Keep us updated...

Hi ,

Glad you joined us! Lots of people must have found me through that message board

link. I started getting a ton of mail a few days ago!

Let us know if you have any questions as you're getting started. Ephedra freaks

me out too. My heart went whacky. You don't need any supplements at all to do

well on BFL. Shakes and bars make for convenient on-the-go meals but whole food

is always best if you can swing it.

Get a big insulated lunch bag or cooler and a bunch of those blue ice things.

That way you can take your healthy food with you. People will look at you like

you're a freak when you show up with four meals. :-) Having good choices with

you makes things a zillion times easier though. Load it up with tuna pouches,

apples, yogurts, cottage cheese, cold chicken, protein pancakes. You'll do

great!

Hi. I'm a resident doctor and my job was outrageously busy until my

chiefship year began July 1. So now I have to have other things to

obsess about besides work... I decided to whittle away the physique

to muscled perfection (or something like that). Over the past year

and a half I managed to gain 16 pounds (due to my inability to resist

Doritos at my boyfriend's house...), but I started a diet at the

beginning of May and have lost 13 so far. I'd like to lose 13 more

pounds of fat for supreme svelteness -- I'd be 120 or so and my

height is 5'4 " . I've always been pretty muscular in spite of a

spindly bone structure.

I stumbled upon this site through a weightwatchers message board

(have a friend who does it, I was always baffled by the points

system) which posted a link to Skwigg's World of Weirdness which led

me to here. My Body For Life book is currently being shipped to me

from Amazon.com.

As a doctor, I'm a little skeptical about supplements other than your

basic multivitamin, fish oils, and calcium, but I still have an open

mind. I've seen young women have to be cardioverted (that is,

shocked) in the ER because of ephedra which makes me, to say the

least, skittish about any thermogenic.

Lessee-- what else is not too boring...

I hate cardio, but I walk 3 miles back and forth to work almost

daily. I love weights and have been working out regularly since

college (except for the past year and a half, where I broke my hand

and I ended up having to have surgery so there went 6 months, then I

fell out of the habit, oh, and during internship when I spent 120

hours a week in the hospital).

My goal is to be lean and lovely by my 30th birthday, which is

January 5th.

Pleased to meet all of you!

Tim,

Dr K removes the gallbladder and the appendix with the DS surgery.

That way if you have a pain in your stomach after surgery, he doesnt

have to rule them out first. Usually the gallbladder is already bad

to begin with, and if it isnt- after the massive and fast weight loss

it will turn bad. So out it comes.

I was tremendously glad to have mine out. I had attacks for 5 years,

my pcp wouldnt remove it cause he said I wouldnt survive surgery. Dr

K got that nasty buggar out and save 3 huge stones for me...I will

show them to you...lol

Hi Tim, and welcome! My name is Donna, and I spent 25+ years in Sacto

before moving to the central coast area two years ago....my surgery

is a week from this Thursday, so you won't be far behind me.....good

luck, and keep posting. This is a wonderful place to find friends,

ask questions, and be " off topic " once in a while...Take care, Donna

of my insurance and remoteness, but am looking for a new pcp.

Hi Tim!

Welcome to our group. We get kind of wild sometimes, so don't let your

shyness keep you away. We should keep you laughing, anyway. Ask any questions

you

have and we will do our best to answer you!

Nope, it means I'm a private investigator. Spent many years sitting

in catwalks all alone doing surveillances. Hence my name. Song is

appropriate also, " I am the eye in the sky, looking at yoooo , I can

read your mind " . lol.
