Kinsey, welcome

The best first thing you can do is getting a book by Mandy Aftel called " Essence

and Alchemy "

Excellent book:) Many in this group has the book.

Hi Kinsey:

Take your time and read through our archives and use the search function

for any topics that interest you. I see that Henk recommended Mandy's

book, and that's a great start.

Welcome Christy. We too have a ten year old son that started off with a dx. of PDD-NOS. It's basically a label the doctor gives when he knows something is wrong but not sure what. I wish they would just file that label away. Our son is very hard to raise socially. It is a battle everyday but we would'nt change a thing. This is Noah.......http://susanpolgar.blogspot.com/2009/04/smart-moves-for-river-ridge-player.html--- On Tue, 4/7/09, cezzolo <cezzolo@...> wrote:

Hi everyone! My name is Chasity. I am a single mommy to a 10 year old son who in 2005 was diagnosed with PDD-NOS. Recently as he has gotten older his Diagonsis has changed slightly to Aspergers. My journey with him has been challenging and oh so rewarding. I am happy to have found this group because at times I have felt very much alone. I am looking to meet and discuss different aspects of day to day life. I have an amazing child who is wonderful and perfect just the way he is. I get angry that people feel as though he should "change" Just because he sees the world differently. I look forward to getting to know you all.Have a great day! Chasity

Welcome Chasity,

I am also new here, and a single mom to a 12 year old aspergers boy. I feel the same way you do, even though my son does have his challenging times. Right now I am trying to find an avenue for my son to meet new friends. Its difficult, not many programs set up where I live for regular social interactions for the kids to just hang out, but Im looking:)

Hi everyone, I have been around a while but haven't had a chance to introduce

myself. My name is Kathy. I am the mom of 3 wonderful boys. My oldest is 14

and diagnosed with Asperger's. We also have 2 " typical " boys ages 8 and 16 mos.

We started out with a diagnosis of Sensory Integration Dysfunction and speech

delayed at 3yrs old. Then at 6yo. we changed to ADHD. Of course, we can't do OT

for sensory issues in school b/c it doesn't affect school work. LOL! We knew

that wasn't entirely the correct diagnosis. It took until 6th grade, many

different meds and many different professionals before we FINALLY got the

diagnosis of Asperger's. Now it is Asperger's, mood disorder-NOS, and ODD. We

recently had to hospitalize him b/c he just couldn't control himself. It was the

worst experience of my life having to do that, but it definitely helped! We got

a new/ old medication that seems to be working (for now.)

Just a quick note! Please make sure your other " typical " children also get

plenty of attention! They will try to get any attention they can. It doesn't

seem to matter if good or bad. We are dealing with issues of not feeling

important, loved, etc. from the 8yo.

Just wondering if you have any issues with your oldest treating the younger siblings badly. We are having a real issue with our almost 12 year old Aspie blaming everything on his sister. He has always had trouble respecting her personal space. With counseling we were finally able to convince him that she is a real person with her own thoughts and feelings, so that is good. But he still does not respect her space and is always hugging, grabbing ,etc. She is also 8 and I am afraid of this and the mean comments affecting her confidence. I would appreciate any input that anyone has because I can't find any information and we are on a wait list for counseling and can't get in til maybe August.

Thanks!

Hi everyone!

I just discovered the IOWL podcasts on Friday and have been 'healthfully'

binging by listening to as many of them as possible to catch up. 's advice

and guidance has already dramatically improved my outlook on my weight loss

goals.

I'm not just one type of eater: I have binged, grazed, and made unhealthy

choices at various times and intervals over the past 8 years that have lead to a

large increase of weight. For instance, last fall I put on a good 10 pounds in 2

weeks while finishing writing and editing my Master's thesis - that's what

happens when you survive on coffee, fast food, and gigantic chocolate bars with

no exercise! I have finally decided to take control of my relationship with food

in a healthy and nurturing way so that I can be healthy and not only lose the

weight, but also keep it from coming back.

I'm still very young (25 in a few weeks) and know this is the perfect time to

make such a change in my life. Developing a healthy relationship with food and

my body now will benefit me for the rest of my (hopefully long!) life.

I can't wait to get to know other group members and offer you my support. From

what I've read so far, you all seem to be really wonderful people!

Best,

K

My is 35 and has DS. Last September she stopped menstruating. After a

couple of months I took her to our physician about it. The first thing he

did was run a pregnancy test, which was negative. Then he ran hormone tests.

Sure enough, her hormones were out of whack. I thought it might be premature

menopause, but he said no. He is sure it is due to her weight. He said

excessive fat can upset one's hormone balance. She has had a couple of

periods since then, and she is working on losing weight, with some success.

I hope you find a doctor for her soon.

You don't need to convince your doctor. Stop the statins and tell the doc that you will never take a statin or any other cholesterol reducing medication. I did and I still have my doctor. From: mzpz2u <deborahpease@...>Subject: HelloLipitor Date: Sunday, August 23, 2009, 9:32 AM

I have had issues with extreme fatigue and muscle joint pain since May of this year. My doctor ran tests for RA..negative, prescribed NSAIDs..it just got worse. I thougtht about what was the significant change and it waws in May when my dose of Zocor went from 20mg to 40mg. It was like night and day....

I called my doc and asked if this could be a cause and she instructed me to go off for three weeks..In those three weeks I felt much better but still not 100%. I went back on the Zocor with no clear cut answers.

During this time I had to stop playing golf because the pain was so bad in my hands and my legs felt so tight I thought they would explode. I was getting quite depressed thinking this is how life is going to be.

I had another appointment one week ago and I informed my odc of the same problems...she ran a test for uric acid...it was sky high and has put me on Allopurinol which lowers the uric acid in the blood. Mainly people with gout are prescribed this...but I do not have the gout symptoms...then I ran across this group and VOILA my suspicions are confirmed. I just need to convince my doc. I am afraid that my muscles are breaking down thus causing the high uric acid..this is scary to me...

Deb, you mention classic statin poisoning symptoms. I have heard the same story from countless others.

Keep in mind that your physcian is in the choleterol lowering business, Its their livelyhood and these drugs are a tool of their trade. They usually don't like it when a patient suggests that the drug was responsible for the symptoms.
