Hi there ,

My son is on anafranil. It is the only anti-obsessional med that works

for him. If things are tough for now, than why not go back for a

quick few sessions with his therapist? We all have good and bad days,

sometimes they are a little longer, but we've learned to identify things as

just that - a little set back!

I think Dr. Claiborne says that once someone has given up an obsession, or

compulsion, they cant go back to it again!

Is interested in joining the teen list? My 13 yo says its a great

support. If he's interested, I'm including the info at the bottom.

Anyway, I'm glad that you've 'come out' and welcome. Oh, and dont

forget to add your location so that we can keep track of where everyone is,

or some other identifying name.

I don't know if you remember me ( from Louisiana).

You were one of the first person's that I made contact with

when was first diagnosed with OCD.

I am so sorry that has had a setback. Do you think

that it could be from anxiety about school starting up soon?

Will he still be going to the same school where you work?

was taken off the adderall because it seemed to heighten

his OCD symptoms also. His OCD has continued to snowball,

and we have tried several different med's. We have been through

several psychiatrists and therapists and have had a difficult time

finding someone who knows how to do behavior therapy and E & RP

therapy. We are going into this school year knowing that he will

homebound again this year.

Cheryl, Sorry to hear that you are sick

in bed. I hope that the pain is over for you soon and

that you are back in the saddle agian! Sounds like

has a jump on school with helping get things

going and all. We have explosions here too after our

son comes home from an outing. Sometimes his bag is so

full he just takes out out on the ones closest to

him.I think he has just bottles it all up and instead

of dealing with things appropriately at the time they

happen he just saves it to come out when at home. This

is great that can at least identify what is

Maybe give her a punch bag or something to let out the angry or frustrations. I

agree with her that it would make worse, if she did not let it out. There is

so much anyone can take.

Sounds like a bad bug - dont breath on me!! I wish there was something I

could suggest for your aches and pains. Perhaps watching a comedy will

distract you??

I think you handled very well. Sometimes when Ziv gets 'nasty' I

give her some fresh juice or something. I think, no proof, that maybe her

sugar is low. At school I tell her to eat something every recess and lunch

too!

Helping the teacher set up the classroom is a great idea. What an

understanding teacher she has - lucky girl!!

Hi Pam,

Welcome to the list. I have twin boys, 22 mths one with DS

one without. I see you live in Pittsburgh. Were you at the

NDSC in August? My husband and I attended and had

a wonderful time. We met a parent there with twin girls

both with DS. The girls were 4. To me it was like a

mirrored reflection. I could not tell them apart. My

boys are as opposite as night and day from coloring to

temperament. I look forward to chatting.

I have also have been to your web site before,when I first found out that

had DS and I started researching all I could find on the internet.

My question is probably not related to DS,but anyway Vinnie has a dry spot on

his cheek (I call it his turn spot)that I can't seem to clear up.I have tried

lotions,Desitin,anti bacteria cream and Cortaid.

It does clear up some but won't completely go away.

Any suggestions of something I haven't tried or what I could do?

Try putting some antifungal cream on it. My son had something like that

on his chin awhile back and it cleared right up with the AF cream (like

nystatin or lotrimin, even gynelotrimin or monistat would probably work,

too). I had also tried other creams and it looked less dry but the

redness never went away until the AF cream.

Have you thought of buying a padded toilet seat? Or maybe warming it in some

way. doesn't like the cold seat. Do they have smaller toilets at school?

Some classes have the smaller ones for the kids (I've used a bathroom before and

it's a long way down there! LOL). Maybe an adult size one is too intimidating.

I'm far from an expert on potty training and my daughter Maddie (6, DS and

autistic spectrum disorder) is nowhere near ready for potty training yet.

However, I have potty trained her 4 siblings. One of the plusses of having

sibs is you can use them as instigators and motivators. Look JJ, how Jimmy

sits on the potty. When Jimmy sits on the potty, Jimmy gets an M &

M..........or whatever. Let's see how long Jimmy can sit. Naturally,

incredibly loud and raucous cheers and reward if sib deposits something.

Then of course, if you get JJ to actually sit, HUGE praise must follow. I

wouldn't worry about what he deposits there yet, so much as his tolerance for

sitting on it. Sounds gross, but showing him how it is done is another

instigator. Also, does he sit on a potty chair or on the toilet? Make sure

he is comfortable at home and that he is stable when he sits. And if JJ has

no siblings at home and Mom and Dad aren't quite up to the task of

demonstrating, use a doll and praise that doll to the high heavens for

sitting on the potty, making sure of course, that JJ is fully aware of what

is going on.

Anyway, these are just some minor suggestions (not that I've had to use the

dolly thing yet-----------but may in the future) And, welcome to the

list!!!! I'm looking forward to hearing more about JJ and his family.
