-- Hi all

Dear Group,

My name is Debby, I am from Wyoming. I was born and raised here. I am a mother of two growing girls ages 11 and 13.. I am about 100 pounds overweight.. I have always been thin and or slender. It is from medication and lack of excercise that got me where I am today..

A bit more than that much for me.

And I've *never* been even normal weight, except for a week or so in 8th grade, the result of 2 years of 1000 calories/day dieting. As soon as I went up to 1200 cal, the entire 30 I lost plus an additional 20 came on within a month. I spent most of my young-adulthood at 220, the weight I'd like to get back to, and after the birth of my son was 250 until a foot and neck injury that plague me to this day hit in 1999 and caused my weight to surge up to almost 300 when I could no longer exercise. I went down as far as 245 eating a very low fat vegan diet, got as low as 800 cal/day but still stayed on a plateau and then started gaining on that little food, so went back up to a more respectable calorie level, and eventually dropped that food plan, started eating just a healthy diet, and regained 25 of those 45 loss right back to put me at 272, the level I've been bouncing up and down and all around for over a year now. Every now and then I go back to that plan (McDougall Maximum Weight Loss - http://www.fatfree.com/diets/mcdougall.html ), find it too restrictive to stay on for long, and then start eating real foods again.

>It is from medication

So many meds cause weight gain! I've been off and on prednisone for both my asthma and various joint and muscle problems, and that one is notorious for weight gain, both from water retention and it's side effect of increasing appetite. My dad is on it now - his cancer doc gave it to him specifically to increase his appetite so he'll gain weight after losing about 3 pounds a week for a month. He says he now feels great and is eating everything in sight and is rapidly regaining what he lost. None of us wants to do *that* though!

>and lack of excercise

Life always finds a way to interfere with out plans. :)

I suffer from astma and on sterroids mostly advair.. I am also on birth control pills to help control my hormone levels. I have a hormone in balance. I am on paxil cr which so far is not causing any weight gain or loss. I used to be on just plain paxil and it did cause me to gain weight..

It is very pretty here in the summer.. We are in drought season and the weather has been odd..

> I suffer from astma and on sterroids mostly advair..

Thanks for the reminder . . . Okay, I just took this morning's puff. Luckily

I haven't needed to take the oral steroids for the asthma lately, but did

last month for the neuritis in my neck for a few days. My podiatrist also

might be giving me a shot of cortsone in to my heel next visit because the

tendonitis just won't go away.

>I am also on birth

control pills to help control my hormone levels. I have a hormone in balance

I don;t have to worry about BC pills, being on the other end of the

fertility spectrum, but I do use the progesterone cream twice daily to keep

those hot flashes and other meno symptoms in check. About 125 years ago I

was on progesterone orally for irregular periods, too. I don't know of many

larger women who have regular cycles. Heck, lots of thin ones have been

having problems in recent years, too, and many docs blame all the hormones

given to cows to increase milk and meat production.

> It is very pretty here in the summer..

You'll have to post a picture in our Photo section some day. All I know

about Wyoming is that it's cattle country. LOL That's a city-gal for you!

Geez Sue. How old are you? :)

28 days like clock work. Gotta mark this one on the calendar so I know when

the next one will be. Haven't done that in a while.

You do what works best for you. The Overcoming Overeating book and the

writings of Geneen Roth touch on this - that denying yourself only leads to

cravings and binges. Some people can handle a small amount; others, like me,

can't.

found your way back. :)

Debby: Sue mentioned " Overcoming Overeating " and I want to second

that!!! For me, with my particular background, deprivation is a

terrible trigger! It is much better for me to allow myself something,

and then only eat a small amount of it.
