I love it when people share their experiences, Just so you guys and gals know I finished my pshyc drugs of zoloft and clonopin i could not even get out of my house(from Panic) to get my meds from the pharmacy(which is 10 minutes away) anyway i had to force myself to go out and get it and my three fingers were in my pulse the whole time (from fear) and now within one year of getting my ICD although it was my three year goal to walk 3 miles and 5 year goal of walking 5 miles in one strech First time i walked 3 miles in God knows how many years (two days ago), it felt sooo good that i ended up walking 6 miles of course being on the beach helped. Don't give up people I would like to quote a lovely young lady whose name is Chambers Who also got her new heart (you go girl!....) just recently she said this when she was 18 and i think we can all learn from it. I think she said " You can't live life in fear thats not living, you still have to go on with your life and of course youre allowed to be scared, but don't let that hinder your life and your lifestyle, You have to live your life as if it's your last day everyday and enjoy it" or something like that i cant remember exactly what she said, it was in the zapper gallery but i didn't buy the disks yet. when i get it I'll tell you exactly what she said. Dear Chet, Welcome to the wonderful world of people with their very own battery chargers. This is a great bunch of people and they have all helped me a great deal. I found my way in here in 1999 after have had my third icd. I was literally on the edge no I think that maybe I was over the edge. I was scared and frightened and out of control. I had had my first icd about 9 years before and after a lot of problems it broke got another and it broke then got another and it malfunctioned ran away and hid without one only to end up dead but thanks to God brought back two weeks before my daughters wedding. I never wanted another icd but they told me it was my only hope I still refused to all the doctor and shrinks and family ganged up and I got one. Hated everyone including myself.Long story short is this is 2002 I just became a Grandma for t he first time and it is wonderful. I am so glad to be alive. I still have up and down times and good and bad times. I still have fear and anxiety but I have a new strength a lot of it is from the people here who carried me when I was terrified. You will go up and down and all over you will have some battles to face. I am not sure how strong you are I thought I was made of steel but I found out that a small worry can make into a bid nightmare and sometimes no matter what I do the nightmare are still there. Hi Sharon,

I am glad you wrote this. You must have gone through a terrible time.

I'm a strong person, but I also have fears and anxiety. At one time I would

have admitted it, but not anymore.

One on the fears I had was falling asleep. I did not think I would wake up

again after all my heart problems. I got over that after being exhausted for

months.

For the last year I've had panic attacks at times and I have not idea why.

My doc put me on Paxil and had a tough time with that drug. He also gave me

Antivan and that seems to help quite well.

I'm glad you people share stories like this. Makes one feel not alone.

This group has helped me a great deal already and I've only been here a

short time.

Congratulations on being a grandmother. So it was worth sticking around for.

That's good.

I hope they perfected the ICD so I don't end up with a bunch of broken ones.

I sure don't want any misfires when I get my first one. For $25,000 it

should be perfect without any flaws.

Oh, yer getting the Walmart ICD! Heh heh. Rich's cost $97,000.

AND..... he did get zapped 'inappropriately'

a couple of times.... a set screw to a lead wire was not tightened

correctly, and it was reading his natural

movements as an arrthymia. But no worries.... EP doc fixed that last

March, and he hasn't been zapped since.

Sue (of course, doc didn't like our jokes about suing her for not

doing it right the first time) ;)

Dear Chet, All you need to know is that for today for this minute right now

you are ok. then simple take it form minute to minute till you canhandle

more and on the days you can't lean on thisd group because we come from

everywhere. All walks of life, all ages, al at different stages with our

icds. Remember! there is strength in large numbers. That is why insurance is

based on the Law of large numbers. Just food for thought.

least it is for me. when that little girl cuddles in my arms my world is

perfect. She will be three months old tomorrow and I can remember what is

was like not to have her in our lives and in my heart. She is smiling and

laughing out loud now which of course just maks her that much more c uddley.

I have decided tht I will dance at her wedding and of course she it not

allowed to get married until she is at least 30.

Where in the heck do you live that your icd only cost 25,000. Was yours on

sale or did you get a rebate?

My daughter (25) insisted that I stick around to hold my first grandchild.

She is not married yet so I better hang in there awhile.

That price was just someone's guess, I believe. Someone else said $40,000,

so I don't know what the real cost will be.

By the way, I'm having it put in tomorrow. I hope to have some good news for

the group when I get back.

I hung around for my g'son and trust me, it was well worth it... the

best thing that can happen to a person for sure :) ... and I hope it

wasn't some mix-up that put implantation off 'til 7th... but this

gives me a chance to wish you the best... let us know how it went

ASAP... and for the record... my first one, w/leads, was over $45K...

second, didn't need to pick up leads option, was only $35K and if I'd

taken leads it would have been an additional $3,500 as I recall being

told :)

Hi , Thank you for the information. I will try my best to go out

tomorrow and buy the book. We have just moving and I am going out

tomorrow to find a house. :)

When you work out first thing in the morning, put rather simply, your body

burns tends to draw its energy from fat stores because glycogen is low in

your body as a result of not eating overnight.

Regarding people holding newspapers, they do this to date their picture, but

you don't have to do this for the BFL challenge. No digital photos are

allowed, so you need to use a 35mm camera to take pictures if you enter the

official challenge competition.

Also, I forgot to add... check out www.bodyforlife.com, which has all of the

information about the competition. EAS is the sponsoring company and sells

Hope this helps get you started. I think reading the book is the first thing

you should do, as it will help you define your agenda and goals and perhaps

provide motivation.

Hello all,

My name is and I am a licensed medic in Texas. I want to tell

everyone a little about myself and then hopefully find a direction that fits my

future.

I have four years in the field, two on a box and three in an ED. My

interest in finding a remote position is long standing, however since graduating

with a B.S. and applying to medical school, I now have only 15 mths. to find

contractual work before medical school starts. Theoretically, I can defer a

year, giving me almost two, to work up the funds I will need. After that, I

will have 2-3 mths. to contract out per year for the following three years.

I currently hold, ACLS, BTLS, PAM (hospital only), and CPR. Currently

expired certifications are WEMT, ATLS, PALS, and PPPC.

After interviews in the fall, I want to hit the road or the seas as the

case may be. I have enjoyed following the dialogue the last couple of weeks and

I now need your collective advice for the best route to take. I have solicited

a few companies I found online, but the more I look, the more it seems a little

insider knowledge is key.

Welcome aboard. You will find many fellow travelers on this list. Some have

just started their journey and others have been at it for a while.

You come at a wonderful time, when we are beginning to understand the disease

and what it takes to get well.Please do not be disappointed if your local doctor

knows little about the disease.

There just hasn't been time for the research to trickle down to the mainstream.

My advice: DON't let him put you on an antidepressent.

Try to get a referral to a med giving psychiatrist who will give you something

to smooth out your sleep cycle.

No he is not. The doctor who diagnosed me has left. My diagnoses was not based

on testing, just symptoms. I went to a rheumatologist and she did tons of

bloodwork and confirmed it, but she never told me what bloodwork she did, and

she is to gone. But the doc who diagnosed me just went by my body pain and other

symptoms. I have started doing alot of research into CFS & FMS, and do realize

that not to many doctors have a clue how to treat CFS.

I will refuse to be put on an antidepressant. And I want to be on less

mediaction as possible. I was on celexa before for my fibromyalgia and it made

me sick, it is an antidepressant, I went off of it and refuse to go back on any

antidepressants.

I am reading a book right now called Hope & Help for Chronic Fatigue Syndrome &

it is pretty good, I have bought several more and am just right now learning all

I can.

Gosh you've been through the mill a bit lately haven't you?

I was very touched by your story and you have my greatest respect. Choosing to

raise Jenna alone rather than struggle on with a man who obviously couldn't cope

with her condition was the right thing to do, but I'll bet it wasn't (and isn't)

easy.

My daughter, , is quite a bit older - 11 - but I still remember how scary

things were when she was first diagnosed.

Post whenever you want to share, or when you need support and just feel like a

" chat " . We've all been there and as someone else's post may help you, so your

posts will also help others.

Welcome to the group! I think it really is impossible for someone to

understand unless they have been there; it's good your partner can

understand. My husband was great in the beginning, but I think it's beginning

to wear on him; I can tell he's beginning to resent my illness and, by

extension, me.

It's also great you found a doctor who knows something about your disease(s);

mine doesn't have a clue ... so we keep treating the symptoms, it's all we

can do at this point.

We *do* have some problems that those who need to lose only 5 or 20 pounds

have. Heck, most of us can lose or gain that much in a week!

Start with looking over this list's web site. Check out the links, the

recipes, the archives.

Increase your daily water. Ideally, we should all be drinking 1/2 ounce of

water per pound of current body weight, so someone like me, at 260, *should*

be drinking 130 ounces of plain old water a day. Not counting any coffee,

soup, diet sodas or crystal light-type drinks. In fact, if you drink things

with cafeine you're supposed to drink an equal amount of water to counteract

the effects of the caffeine on your kidneys.

Keep a food journal. Write down everything you put in your mouth - all the

water, all the bites of a kid's leftovers that are too little to put away

but too much to throw out, every piece or gum or bite of a bagel, every part

of your meals and snacks. Many of us take little mini-meals all day long and

don't even realize it until we see it in black and white.

Move. If you don't exercise at all right now, start. Pick something you

would enjoy and will be able to do. Some people walk, some do aerobics, some

sit in a chair and do exercises to the stereo. Do what you can. Make small

changes in your routine - park the car a little further away from the door,

walk down flights of stairs instead of waiting for the elevator, walk all

around the store (but don't buy junk) even if you're only going in for one

item.

If you're already exercising, bump up your routine a notch. Work longer,

harder, or a different type of exercise altogether. Mix it up - do toning

and aerobics on alternate days. If you already tone using weights, use a

heavier weight (if tolerated).

Make a meal plan. Some plan 2 weeks in advance, others plan just the one

day. Whichever is most convenient for you. Make sure you plan not just your

3 main meals but some healthy snacks, too. If you traditionally eat in front

of the tv, don't feel because you're " on a diet " you can no longer do it.

This is your life and your food plan should be what you plan on doing for

the rest of your life. If you like to snack, do it!

You know your routine. If you're super busy running around to 2 jobs, going

to school, and raising kids at the same time, don't believe you're going to

make a full dinner every night. Learn to love your crockpot and other

time-savers. Chop up your veggies over the weekend. Make double meals and

freeze half for another day. Make up a big batch of soup or stew and plan on

having it more than once during the week.

Now go shopping and buy what you need for that food plan. By doing this you

have no excuse to say " Oops, I ran out of chicken, let's go to the golden

arches for dinner instead. " Since you already planned meals according to

your schedule, you'll never be able to use the no-time-to-cook excuse,

Don't weight yourself! In the beginning, you might actually *gain* a little

weight, between the increase in water and increase in exercise building up

muscle mass. Take a set of measurements, instead. Lock them up where nobody

will see them, then forget about it for a month. Then take another set and

see the difference. Before that you might even notice your clothes fitting

differently and not even want to measure. That's fine, too.

Just don't get hung up on numbers. This, *I* feel, is the main reason a lot

of people just drop their weight loss plans. They don't se that scale

dropping fast enough to satisfy the, they get frustrated and discouraged,

and return to their former eating habits.

And check in here frequently. We're a friendly bunch, feeling glad for you

when you have accomplishments to report, commiserating with you when you

don't.

A lot of us have learned that we can starve ourselves on under 1000 calories

a day and still gain. Exercise *is* the key.

I just wish it wouldn't make me so darn tired! :)
