Hi, . Many of us here vaccinated our older children, too. That's why

we're here, because of the damage from vaccines or concern about it.

It's good the ped was honest with you that only vaccinated children matter to

him. Better to find out now than if your children was sick and he would refuse

them help. Those kinds of docs ought to rethink their choice of careers.

Anyway, welcome, and have fun with your research!

It was funny because he had the nerve to tell me with a 2 month old baby

well if your son comes down with the measles I wouldn't even begin to know

how to treat him since he has never seen a case of it because VAX's have

worked so wonderful. I asked him are you serious my son could get them

anytime between now and the " normal " scheudled MMR shot and you wouldn't

treat him? I knew right then and there that he was wacky. Babies can't

even get the VAX until 12 or 15 months.

I actually had to take him to the ER a week ago because he had an allergic

reaction to either eggs or peanut butter. His poor face was so puffy and

swollen and although he presented with no breathing problems they wanted to

keep him for 24 hours. Well during the process of being seen by different

DR.s that day 2 of them asking if he was up to date on his shots and the

looks they gave me when I said he hasn't had a one! One actually had the

nerve to mention the TV episode of Grey's Anatomy or whatever one was

recently on about the child who died of measles. I just told her we were

comfortable with our choices. I hate that they try to make you afraid as if

the decision isn't hard enough to make with the information that is out

there. After spending 8 hours there that day waiting for a room and my

little man being exposed to RSV and Pneumonia from the other occupants I

signed him out AMA and left. Its funny each of those little ones that

presented with serious illness that day were up to date on their shots! I

am very thankful that my son didn't get sick from the exposure!

You are very savvy in your logic. Really, if the babies don't get the vax until

they're older, why isn't that pediatrician prepared for how to treat them for

measles when they're infants?? It just confirms my opinion that they are

vaccine-givers and drug-prescribers rather than healers.

And for ER staff to give medical advice based on TV shows, I mean, come on. Why

go to medical school then? That is just beyond absurd. I wonder what our friend

/ would say about that.

What did they end up doing for the puffiness besides (I am assuming) Benadryl or

steroids?

Winnie,

Once I realized he was having a sever allergic reaction I gave him benadryl

they gave him an epi shot and sterioids along with more benadryl. It took

him 2 days to get back to normal and I hated the way he looked all doped up

on benadryl.

Well, you have to get him through the moment the best way you know. I'm

wondering what suggestions they made, what tests they might have run to pinpoint

whether it was egg, PB or something else--or if they told you to follow up with

an allergist.

My son got hives after bee sting and was given Benadryl and an antacid (sounds

weird but I guess it helps in some way). We now give him homeopathics if he gets

stung (not often) and after five years, he's had no problems. No epi-pen,

either.

Your poor guy. You must have been terrified.

Winnie,

It was scary to a point. I was at my mom and dad's house I go over there to

make all of his baby food. My father is a chef and loves to cook so we

usually go shopping and buy organic food and then cook for the month for him

we were at the store when I realized that he was having a reaction. I ran

down to the pharmacy area and got a bottle of children's benadryl and gave

it to him in the store.

The only suggestion they had was that I follow up with my Pedi the following

day, but since mine refuses to see us I haven't had any testing done on him.

I am definitely going to look in to a homeopathic type of Dr. I try my

hardest to not take the kids to the " Dr " when they are sick because I have

found that they usually run its course if left alone.

What is really odd is that off and on he has had both eggs and P butter in

other things. I had made him scrambled eggs before and he has had P butter

in ice cream just not a lot of it. The day he had his reaction he had

scrambled eggs and toast but then he got a lick of straight P butter, so

maybe the type and amount is what caused it.

I know someone who has a PB allergy but not to organic PB. Could be something on

the peanuts?

Surely a good naturopath/homeopath can order allergy tests of some kind, or

works with someone who can, and get his immune system up to snuff.

Hi Francie

Wow, it sounds like you have a pretty decent program going. A pound a week loss is a safe loss too. It seems like you have found something that is working for you maybe just not as fast as you would like. I haven't done all the dvd's you have but have done some of them. I love the #3 workout of Jillian 's Shred. THAT is a decent workout. Quick but very effective. Also interval training is excellent for burning more calories. There are some good interval dvd's out there - or maybe you could incorporate a sprint in your walks and then alternate. Working out more with weights will help speed up your metabolism too and keep it there burning more calories:-) Personally I see results MUCH quicker with weights as far as getting toned and really looking like I workout.

Even though you don't like to write food down you might want to just try it for a little bit. It becomes second nature after a while. It has really helped me to see what I am doing, craving, etc.

Hi Francie!

Welcome!! I'm and I'm a WW leader in Michigan. WW says the top of your range for a healthy weight is 160 so your goal can be anywhere between 128 and 160 or you can get a note from a doctor saying that your goal should be something higher or lower than our ranges. Did you become a lifetime member? If so, weigh-ins and meetings are FREE if you're within 2 pounds of your goal weight. If your goal was 160 and you're at 163, lose one more pound on your own and then go back to meetings for free (and lose as much more as you want to for free, as long as you stay within the healthy weight range, I'm about 15 pounds under my goal weight). If you're not a lifetime member then you could actually bring in a note from your doctor that says your weight should be whatever it is now and then you'd just pay for 6 weeks of maintenance (during which time you could be losing too) or get back to 160 on your own and then come in for the 6 weeks of maintenance. After 6 weeks of maintenance you'd then be a lifetime member and you'd be able to attend meetings anywhere in the world for free for the rest of your life as long as you weigh in at least once per month and don't go higher than 2 pounds over your goal weight. If you miss a month or go more than 2 pounds over goal then you only pay the discounted rate for lifetime members until you are again within 2 pounds of goal (no registration fee either). I always gained as soon as I stopped attending meetings so this last time I came back (I quit attending meetings after making goal and then came back 3 times over my goal) I decided to see what would happen if I kept attending the meetings and now, 3 years and 25 pounds later, I'm still where I want to be. Just my story & info about WW you can take or leave! :-)

1 pound per week loss is fantastic!! Healthy weight loss is 1/2 pound to 2 pounds per week so you are doing GREAT!! You've already dropped 12 pounds from your high, that is great too! You don't say how old you are, but do you think it is reasonable for you to be at 145? Can you keep your weight there without being hyper aware of how much and what you're eating and exercising more than you really want to in order to keep it there? If so, then go for it, but if not, then consider a different goal. It is fantastic too that you notice yourself tightening up!! Often, it is the non-scale victories (how we look, how our clothes fit, etc.) that are most important!

As far as your weight loss efforts go, you say you're following the Core Plan (for anyone who joined WW this year, we don't have a separate "core" plan anymore, except the Simply Filling Technique, Core was blended with Flex and both are now the Momentum plan). Make sure you really are eating primarily core foods and try counting points for just the non-core foods you eat. Those "extras" can really add up without our knowing it! You might want to write down all your foods for one week (with or without counting points) just to see what you really are eating! Also, make sure you are being very faithful to the Good Health Guidelines (they would be in your week 1 booklet if you still have that), following core usually makes it easier to do that too. Get your water in, that will help a lot. Make sure too that you are eating enough. You say you've decreased your calories, but do you know how much you are really taking in (calories or points)? You might want to track for a week to be sure. Once again though, if you are losing 1 pound per week then you are doing everything RIGHT and you are doing GREAT!!! You don't want to lose weight faster than 2 pounds per week because then you risk losing muscle too. I know sometimes 1 pound per week doesn't feel like "enough" but a slower weight loss journey is a healthier one and while you want to look good for those pictures, you might want to focus especially on feeling great and being healthy for life!! :-)

Sounds like you've got some great workouts! I don't know Mission Specialist though, what is that (who is that)? Is it part of Barry's Bootcamp? Can you do your walking and DVD workouts when you back to school? If not, what do you do during the school year for exercise? I look forward to hearing more about your workouts and your weight loss journey too!

Which acronyms have you confused? It would be easier to answer your questions than provide you with a list since many of the ones used here are used across the internet (and in texting) so since I don't know how familiar you are with email and texting it would take longer to write you a list than to just answer your questions! We do call a lot of instructors by their first names, if you need to know last names just ask. We're a super friendly group and are always glad to have another vidiot (person who loves exercising with videos, it is not an insult) join us!

New to the group

Hi, I am 5' 7", and WW says 160 lbs is goal. I reached goal about a year ago, but my weight soared to 175 lbs. I currently am at 163, but I am one of those ladies that used to be naturally thin, until my 40's. So, in my mind, I would like to be back to 145. My wedding weight was 135.I walk about three miles daily, and am a teacher, so I have the summer off. Every day I have been working out with DVD's. I especially like Barry's Boot camp, and am currently adding the Mission Specialist workouts after the first workout.I also like Jillian s' Shred, and her other DVD, No More Trouble Zones. I don't like that she makes you do them twice. With Barry, it is one minute, and then we are on to something else.I just bought Chalean Extreme for $30 on Ebay. I hope this will be good for me. I have a tummy, but I am toned, and eager to get more muscle and less fat.I would love to get a list of what all your abbreviations mean. Maybe someone can add that to the files, so other newbies like me know what you are talking about.Any recommendations for my quest? I have decreased my calories this summer, but am not a fan of writing food down. I eat mostly WW Core food, but am not paying any money to WW. I am on my own. I have been losing about one pound per week. Seems low for all the work I have been doing, but I think I am building muscle at the same time. I look tighter. We are having a huge family party in late November, and I want to be down in weight for all the photos. I hate that my face is fatter than I want it to be in the photos.Francie

Hi Francie!

Hi Kay,

Have more to say but short on time right now so I just want to say that dustin' off the Sweatin' to the Oldies tape and WIP is an EXCELLENT start! You go girl!!! Darlene

New to the group

Hi! My name is Kay, and I'm new to this board. I'm 61 years old, I've topped out at 283 pounds and just found out I have degenerative arthritis in my spine. For the sake of my health, I need to lose more than 100 pounds and get exercise while I can still move about without much pain.I'm a little lost. I've dieted and lost weight, then put it back on time after time after time. I don't have much hope that I can actually lose and keep the weight off. I'm pretty depressed about the arthritis. Ordinarily, I'd drown my sadness in food, but I know that's not an acceptable solace. In the past 17 months, I've been extremely depressed. My husband left me for another woman. We were divorced a year ago, and he remarried as soon as it was legal to do so. On top of that, my adopted granddaughter, whom I think of as my daughter, was operated on for a brain tumor in Jan. '08 and went through radiation to her skull and spine, then a year of chemotherapy. She's doing well now, but there's always that fear that the cancer will return. She's just 7 years old.I don't have enough money to join groups or go to a gym, so I'm going to have to do this myself. I'm beginning by cutting down on my portions and watching what I eat. I have a copy of Sweatin' to the Oldies which I intend to dust off this week-end. I may have to just walk in place while I'm watching it, but it's a start.I'm looking forward to being a part of this group. Thank you for letting me join you.

Thanks for the welcome, Darlene! I did turn on the Sweatin' tape and

made it all the way through the warm up section. I'll keep it up until

I can get through the whole tape. May take awhile, but I have time.

I'm right behind you, Darlene, cheering you on, too.

Hugs,

Kay

Thank you for the welcome, . Hopefully the drama has ended and it

will be smooth sailing from now on. I won't count on that, but am

trying to practice optimism.

I hope to be an active member here.

Hugs,

Kay

" Drama " never ends in life - it just takes a breather while it plans its

next attack! LOL

Hi Kay,Welcome to the group! I'm Jen and I'm newish here, myself. I think one thing that really helps with motivation is keeping that hope that we will all be able to lose weight healthfully and keep it off. The ladies here are great at sharing that hope - and sharing extra when our own fades. Again, welcome!

Hi, Jen! Thank you for the welcome. Hope is everything. Without it,

where would we be? I'm glad I joined this group. It's very positive,

and that's valuable for me.

Hi Kay ... I can't remember

if I welcomed you ... WELCOME! I want to say how wonderful it is that you're changing

your lifestyle! My MIL is 65 and is 300+ and has arthritis in her spine. I

don't expect that she'll be able to walk very much longer. I applaud you for

taking control of your health and life!

Hi, Babette! I don't remember if you've already welcomed me, either (my

mind = sieve) but thank you so much for the resounding welcome this

time.

I'm so sorry about your mother-in-law. I hope she does better instead

of worse. I very much like being able to walk and move about, so I'm

determined to make myself better.

Today was a crazy day -- a sick kid, workers in my duplex working on

the ceiling, Walmart trip. Ack! I couldn't bring myself to exercise in

front of the workers. While we were at Walmart my blood sugar dropped

and I had to eat some candy to bring it back up. I managed to finish my

shopping, kind of (forgot a few things) but the episode exhausted me.

But I'll do better tomorrow. I'll keep up the momentum as best I can.

I'm determined to be healthier. I can do it!

Thanks again.

Kay

Oh Kay! LOL LOL ... seems

both our brains are sieves then! Speaking of my MIL ... I took her to Wal-Mart

today (her very favorite place in the world and my LEAST favorite!) and she

barely made into the store - we even got a parking space right in front of the

doors. It's so sad to watch her gripping the bench for support and begging for

a scooter cart. Sadly there's not much I can do ... just hope that she comes

to a place where she wants to do something about it.

I know it's easier said than done, but try not to let other

people (like the workers) dictate what you can do for your health! What's the

worst that can happen? Sure maybe someone will say or think something, but you're

the winner cuz you're doing this for your health!

Sorry about that sugar drop ... those are really annoying. Do

you eat 6 small meals a day? I know that helps out A LOT.

Hugs,

Babette
