Hello and welcome Kay! :)

From: Kay <kaywt@...>100-plus Sent: Friday, August 28, 2009 8:41:17 PMSubject: New to the group

Hi! My name is Kay, and I'm new to this board. I'm 61 years old, I've topped out at 283 pounds and just found out I have degenerative arthritis in my spine. For the sake of my health, I need to lose more than 100 pounds and get exercise while I can still move about without much pain.I'm a little lost. I've dieted and lost weight, then put it back on time after time after time. I don't have much hope that I can actually lose and keep the weight off. I'm pretty depressed about the arthritis. Ordinarily, I'd drown my sadness in food, but I know that's not an acceptable solace. In the past 17 months, I've been extremely depressed. My husband left me for another woman. We were divorced a year ago, and he remarried as soon as it was legal to do so. On top of that, my adopted granddaughter, whom I think of as my daughter, was operated on for a brain tumor in Jan. '08 and went through radiation to

her skull and spine, then a year of chemotherapy. She's doing well now, but there's always that fear that the cancer will return. She's just 7 years old.I don't have enough money to join groups or go to a gym, so I'm going to have to do this myself. I'm beginning by cutting down on my portions and watching what I eat. I have a copy of Sweatin' to the Oldies which I intend to dust off this week-end. I may have to just walk in place while I'm watching it, but it's a start.I'm looking forward to being a part of this group. Thank you for letting me join you.

Dear

Welcome to the group. This is a really good home for you as it is the

place of real success stories and real Mums and Dads dealing with

health issues where the NHS often has little support to give.

My DD has been really tired and bloated all her life, She has been

underoxygenated from being a little foetus and it has only been since

we have been using Scotson Therapy that we have noticed huge changes

in her energy, sleep quality and her ability to fit in well with her

peer group. Scotson works from Advance Centres and has a lot of

experience with Autistic Children. There is a separate file on this

group which gives an essence of how this very gentle therapy

works

Best Wishes

Tracey

Hi, I home-educate and I think a few people do on this list. How do you

find it's going?

Tracey is very pleased with the Scotson Therapy and there are loads of

other ideas to try -- some quite pricey so it's worth reading lots

before you leap. Looking on the files is a good idea and also a site

called Treating Autism has lots of background to get you thinking.

In my personal opinion, the most important things is to think for

yourself -- only you know your child and our children are very

different. I'm sure you can do that and you will find everyone here very

helpful and willing to give you their ideas and success stories.

, spot on with your words. is simply amazing. She is tiny

and so very calm and gentle. Her essence is to make a difference to

the lives of many and she takes very little for herself. GENUINE is a

word that truly embodies her. I have ordered all three of her books

and will be happy to loan them out when i have read them...

I agree fully with you Sally that we must each make the final decision

on the route to take. My conviction with Scotson Therapy is that it

starts at the cause... in addressing the problem of insufficient

oxygenation of the system which affects every part of the body and

mind and is often at the heart of neurological and physical issues.

Until the body can fully support its own oxygenation, other therapies

take a little longer to work.

Our journey with our DD has been 15 years so far and we have done

homeopathics, herbal, chinese medicine, phytobiophysics, Klinghardt,

cranial osteopathy, holistic dentistry, nutritional supplements and we

have seen more changes in the 6 months on Scotson than we have seen

over the previous 15 years with the other therapies... It may all be

coincidental. however what we have been given with Scotson Therapy is

HOPE that DD will be able to lead a near normal life within the next

two years.. Scotson Therapy hss predictable results.

our daughter has had many ASD traits in her life and has no

formal diagnosis. Her main issues are interaction with her peer group

and seizures. These are improving measurably with this therapy.

Best wishes

Dear ,

Thankyou for the welcome.

I'm very interested in the issue of underoxygenation and I have often thought that my DD suffers from this. She is low muscle tones & hypermobile and so her chest is very constricted. She is having weekly sensory integration therapy and has just started to be able to take a deep breath when she has her inhalers. It souns like the Scotson Therapy could do alot more.

Hi Sally,

Thankyou for replying.

The home education is going great. My dd came out off school at Christmas and we haven't looked back since. What has become more obvious since then though is her autistic behaviours which seem to get worse rather than better and I was expecting improvements. Also her overall health has improved, but we are still left with this real tiredness and lethargy which contribute to her behaviour and ability to do things.

Re: New to the Group

Hi, I home-educate and I think a few people do on this list. How do you find it's going?Tracey is very pleased with the Scotson Therapy and there are loads of other ideas to try -- some quite pricey so it's worth reading lots before you leap. Looking on the files is a good idea and also a site called Treating Autism has lots of background to get you thinking. In my personal opinion, the most important things is to think for yourself -- only you know your child and our children are very different. I'm sure you can do that and you will find everyone here very helpful and willing to give you their ideas and success stories.BWsSallyTracey Clewer wrote:> >> Dear >> Welcome to the group. Hi

Poor breathing and poor muscle tone are the areas which Scotson

Therapy helps. We noticed differences in DD within a couple of months.

is getting really busy following a fantastic interview with

Libby Purves on Mid Week BBC 4 so if you are interested in having the

2 hours assessment with her this side of Christmas she needs to be

contacted ASAP Tel 01342 311137

Her website is lovely too www.scotsontechnique.com

We return tomorrow to Advance to see and have DD reassessed- We

are all really excited by the progress in 6 short months... We have

every reason to believe that DD will be seizure free in as little as 2

years...

Oxygen is the only thing which the body has to have- We can survive

without fluids for about a day, without food for a few weeks. however

without ozygen we have no life... When the body begins to be able to

breath on its own and so well that it can keep itself oxygenated, then

it is able to begin to address the side effects of bad breathing like,

acidosis, poor motility of the bowels, poor muscle tone, poor neural

functioning, poor assimilation of food and drink..

Scotson has been our key

Very best wishes

Tracey

,

welcome Although I am a new to the form as well but have you tried to introduce sensory integration exercises into the routine especially before activities that are stressful, this helps my son in witting activities as he also has dyspraxia by consequence hiperactivity escalates and his stims increase but with this exercises specially proprioceptive it really helps him to organise.

Dear

Welcome to the group. I have a daughter with autism who is 12. I cant even begin

to describe the support we have had on this list and the ones that went before.

Not taking supplements is so common and there will be lots of people who can

help you with this. There are several practitioners around that can help you on

your biomed journey and many people do things themselves. We have always

focussed a lot on diet, there are heaps of good resources at The Autism research

Institute, Treating Autism, TACA etc. Have a root thru the Files on this

group. Go slowly as Rome was built in a day and dont be overwhelmed.

Caudwell provide many families with funding. Ask always if you are unsure we all

started out at one point and no matter how long we have been at this we are all

still learning. My child had lots of bowel issues which has taken a while to get

on top of but things are much better now. There are lots of really experienced

parents when it comes to all things pooh on here! We do like our pooh stories,

just ask. Could it be something like that with your child thats a bit off

colour. Or maybe throat/ear infections/cold/flu. Both my kids been ill with this

over the past week, one almost better the other just starting.... Lotsa Luck,

hope things are a bit better soon.

Luv Caroline

My DS generally refuses all supplements, but My DD takes enzymes. I know that

she is just not well, something is making her feel ill and so tired, but the NHS

can't seem to find anything. I'm not quite sure where to start, but I know that

I need to find out more.

Hi ,

I've been thinking about your comment that her autistic behaviours have

seemed to get worse with home ed. I wonder if they really have done or

if her general behaviour/learning has improved so much that your

expectations have risen and so you see the autism more? Or I wonder if

you are putting pressure on her (no bad thing, I'm not against it)

instead of managing her behaviour by giving in to it (maybe like the

school) and so more autism-like behaviour appears.

She won't be getting more autistic (in my opinion because autism

moderates with age) but she may be expressing it more (I tell myself

stuff like that from time to time) which may or may not be a bad thing

because now you see it you can try and manage it.

Is she sleeping OK? Can she tell you things like that because poor sleep

contributes to lethargy (well duh as my NT daughter would say at this

point)/. I'm full of obvious remarks like that

We found removing soya made a HUGE improvemengt gto our son's sleeping and

trying the Specific Carbohydrate Diet stopped him being so exhausted (he used to

just flop after meals before).

We homeschool too.

Hi ,

Thanks for this. I have spoken to Scotson and we are going to see her next week. I know that my DD's breathing is not OK and I know that alot of her behaviour is because she is so tired. So, I'll let you know. How do you fit in the therapy?
