Hi! Thanks to whomever started the list!!!

Rhonda, Just wondering where in Long Island are you in? What types of

services are you receiving for your child. Are any of the intervention

teachers or therapies you have been apporved for, work on behaviors..??

I am in Long Island as well.. I have been blessed with many hours of

services .. With the majority of it being ABA/AVB

PLease note that New York is one of the luckiest places you could be as far

as services are concerned. I am hoping you havent been mis guided ...I am

hoping that you are receieving the services your child does so much deserve.

What town are you in..or county?

I am in Nassau and we have 36 hrs of services plus speech and ot..

Many of the involved proactive parents here on the island have been getting

these types of hours of services..(in both EI and CPSE)

Just though I would let you know.. that perhaps you have not been well

informed.. It would be a tradgedy for you NOT to take advantage of the

generosity of New York's services..

The services they give in other states are a joke. Many have moved here just

for it's advocation AND knowledge in the disorder..

Just thought I would let you know.. Typically , in most of the cases and

families I know of.. we use the ABA or AVB stle of learning..Both deal with

behaviors (as well as language and academics..effectively)..Applied Behavior

Analysis is a SCIENCE

Where you have to look ayt everything your child does as a BEHAVIOR..And

that there must be a function to that behavior before they (your consultant

or whomever is in charge of his porgram book) come up with a good behavior

plan..

If you need any help or would like to talk abit.. you can email me

privatley..

Many Blessings

BTW.. My son is 3.5 has been receiving services for over a year now.. had

made tremendous gains.. the behavior (IF ANYONE COULD PLEASE HELP) is not

aggression, but Vocal peseverations..(though he is somewhat verbal .. He has

spontaneous speech of direct NEEDS (Mommy, come here..open it, I want juice,

pick me up..) ..but doesnt do much spontaneous commenting..Look at me! An

airplane!!!)..

his vocal stimms have been a challenge for us.. since he has really no

PHYSICAL behaviors.. the funny noises he makes does have him stand out.. (we

have a couple of plans that will all be treid.. BUT I would love to have any

other reccommendations ...

The function of the behavior is normally 1 of 4 things..

He vocalizes to either be 1)task avoidant 2) gain attention 3)self

stimulatory 4) he doesnt have the correct words to say..

Anyone ever had a behavior plan that decreased vocal peseverations.. ??

Any suggestions would be grand..Thanks!

It is too bad that this strategy did not work better.

Somehow inducing teachers (and parents) to attend differentially to

appropriate behavior is a good general strategy. Sometimes we ask

teachers to take data on the appropriate acts, to count them for a while,

as an additional attention focusing strategy. Of course, if the

appropriate behavior the children have already is somehow off the mark as

appropriate behavior in the particular classroom in which they are

placed, then they have to have prompts and reinforcement devoted to

shaping setting-appropriate behavior for that particular classroom. This

takes much more skill and effort by teachers.

Hi Janelle,

As far as biting goes I would need more information. Some children bite themselves, bite others, bite down hard on objects, or a combination of all three. I want to stress again a functional analysis is best or if you want to do an ABC (antecedent-behavior-consequences) chart to kind of track how and when it is occurring, that would be good also. If you want to email me privately (andreafryer@...) I can go through this more with you and send you a sample ABC attachment so you can see the form I use if you think that may be helpful.

I saw that you spoke to another parent regarding bitting. My son has AS and he is 8. When he gets up set with himself or nothing goes right he starts to bight himself. I was wondering if you could help me as well?

Have a great day,

Yep, was a 'heavy' year, lost in exactly 1 year 2 dogs, the oldest

and the youngest :-( Now already it's very crowded here, there now

are two very adolescent young dogs (halfbrothers) in the house. 1 one

very stuborn senior lol.

Take it were it comes, I can't fulfill in the household, but I stille

live with my parents and they now became caretakers again. I started

to drive in my car again after more than a year and have now some

many more freedom to be able to travel for about 7 km up and back to

go to friends or to the woods to walk with my dogs. (previous I had

to ask for everything for my dad to go with my)

I previous worked in a general familie practische for 3 doctors. That

I cant do anymore I have severe concentration and short term

memory 'default'.

Now I'm training in the fitnes toget my condition up to a acceptable

level(goes with ups and downs) and to get my walking straight (I

walked as a drunken men) so my balance and coordination is also gone.

But one thing you learn from such a situation, don't take anything

just for normal. Smal thing you before didn't even see are so

beautifull :-)

Jolanda, I sure hope it is not from the kitten, she was never allergic to

cats before. She will see her Dr. this afternoon, after school.

Yep, they both take quite a few meds, each one plays a different role. It is

easier now to put up with since we have a Pedi Pulmo who listens and knows

what the heck he is doing.

Talk to you soon. Marsha

The whiplash has made some damage to a few neurlogical functions. Some body things (pain etc.) and some physical functions don't work as they should.

Just wondering how your Patello Femoral Syndrome

was diagnosed. I was told I had that 2 years ago.. I

was sent to therapy for 4 weeks. 2 Years later I am

recovering from surgery, not 1 but yes my 2nd surgery in 6

months. One was done on the left knee and the other one

the right knee. All I am trying to say is make sure

it is done by tests, not by feel. Sometimes things

are missed. I went to a different DR from the One 2

years ago.. and he ended up finding Chondromalacia,

Torn meniscus had a lateral release and A couple other

things done. <br><br>AJ
