Hi Gail,

so far I take it Ted does not have a new IEP for next year? When did you

sign the current one, has it been over a year? can you invoke the stay put

option which would keep him in his currant setting? Which would be more

academic then what this program they want him in sounds like? They after all

are responsible for making sure that his IEP is written on time and such.

Call and ask what they are doing about it.

Then personally I'd send the forms back stating that his IEP does not include

unlimited field trips/walks off school grounds and never will. that he will

do those things with his regular education peers and occasionally with his

sped peers. ;-) that Ted drinks water or milk only during school hrs,

unless for a celebration for a holiday party with his reg. ed. peers.

And why does he need a blanket? Doesn't he already know how to brush his

teeth and hair? I do have brush her teeth after lunch but I'm not sure

if I'll have them have her do that this year since she hasn't really needed

the practice for afew years. the only kids you see in non sped classes maybe

brushing their teeth are those who have braces....and even alot of those seem

to prefer to just rinse their mouth out with water when done eating. And

unless he's still a really messy eater why in the world does he need a

washcloth and towel. EEEK. hope schools doesn't start for you til you get

this all worked out. Will you keep him at home until this is settled to your

satisfaction?

HI Gail :)

First......... a (((((hug)))))) we are starting school on Monday and I'm a

bit nervous.

Second....I may steal these survival toys for Sara's new teachers lolol

Third........is Ted placement on his IEP for Reg Ed? Reg Ed with pullout to a

CDC classroom? Or what :) next was there ever a meeting to change

placements? or program type? Also is this a legally dated IEP not expired?

and do you still have your lawyer on call?

They can NOT change anything on the IEP without Prior Written notice and it

has to be done at an IEP meeting with the reason on the notice that this is

their intentions. I had an IEP meeting this week and I too was worried that

they were going to try and change Sara's placement or supports but a friend

told me (which I had forgotten) that they have to give me prior written

notice if changes were going to be made. The meeting went well, kind of a

waste of time really, the new Reg Ed teacher wasn't there so my questions are

on hold till next meeting :(

Maybe this week we can schedule a chat and all brainstorm on your situation :)

Kathy mom to Sara 9.........Oh how I hate your school district Heehee it

seems they lack respect for the Law...by the way there is a time frame for

meetings you call :)

ROTFLOL Oooh yeah I know about that CRS lol I cooked a great meal last night,

lasagna, Italian salad, garlic bread and dump cake. We entertained Mike's

cousin from Chicago who was in town for the night. Also we had over Mike's

brother, wife and kids. Anyway my SIL asked me if I had anything for dessert

and I said " no " . SIL ran to the store to pick up a pie. Hours later after

dinner Kaite my 12 yr. old asked me when we were having this " dump cake " that

I made. ooooh I was so embarrassed, here my sweet SIL went to all this

trouble to go get dessert and I had already made one..............my Mom

thinks I need Gingko

Hi :)

For the 18 years my kids have been in schools, we have always had to provide

their school supplies, even math and spelling workbooks (12 bucks a piece).

The text books are provided by the schools.

Also if this was a wonderful world all would be brushing their teeth at

school, but it doesn't happen and I would not do anything that would make

Sara stand out as different. JMHO she rinses her mouth out after lunch like

the other kids :)

Kathy mom to Sara 9...........Im betting the brushing of teeth is not for the

reasons we would like, but teaching this HOME skill

HI Gail :)

Heehee I look at it this way, if it's NOT in the IEP then don't go near it

with a 10 foot pole lolol even potty training in the schools gets to be an

obsessive compulsive behavior with some teachers. I know of a kid who was

taken to the potty every 30 mins for 15 mins a time, now guess how much

academics he got in a days time????? (did this make sense lol)

Some things need to be left with the parents, and plans for anything should

be drawn up with the parents .......involved with planning decisions
