is coconut oil solid at room temperature?

tanya

Re: Coconut oil

I believe the Lou Ann oil is refined and probably hydrogenated. The

good one usually says " Virgin " or " Extra Virgin " on the label and costs

quite a bit more. Although I'm using " Now " brand this time (for

medicinal purposes or to add raw to food as I also buy one from an

Indian store for cooking), from what I've seen Nutiva is the most cost

effective one when bought in the 54 oz. jar (Vitacost.com had a really

good price).

ok, and so the 'saturated fat' that it's made up of is not going to clog my

arteries? did i read that right? anything that can boost my metabolism

would be awesome about now and i could put it in my smoothies very easily.

Coconut oil is a monosaturated fat, which is a " healthy " fat.

LouAna brand is non-hydrogenated... but likely refined because the container

doesn't state " unrefined " or " virgin " and when you ask if it is unrefined they

will only give a vague answer. Another way to tell is that unrefined is USUALLY

smooth and white and refined is USUALLY yellowish and not as smooth, which

describes LouAna.

Coconut oil is not a monosaturated fat overall, as it contains less than 7% MSF.

But that really has no bearing on heart disease. The saturated fat scare was

manufactured by the processed cooking oil industry decades ago to discredit

tropical oils. Coconut oil actually increases HDL, and is more stable for

cooking than any other oil, olive oil included. When heated to a reasonable

cooking temp (never over heat any oil - as in, to 400 degrees), CO does not

break down and form up to 1000 or more trans fats as other oils do, including

olive oil. So, CO is really the only safe oil to cook with. Also, CO is mainly

a medium chain triglycyeride, meaning it is used for energy production, not fat

storage.

According to manitobaharvest, coconut oil is ~91% saturated fatty acids, ~7%

monounsaturated fatty acids, ~2% omega-6 fatty acids and zero omega-3 fatty

acids. According to McCance and Widdowson's The Composition of Foods (MAFF 1991)

the fatty acid composition of coconut oil is as follows:

Hydrogenated coconut oil will clog the arteries eventually just as animal fat

will, there is no difference in the human body in that 100% of both of those are

NOT digestible via bile salt by the body as all fats are digested.. why? b/c the

body does not see either of those as food.... sigh, makes me feel sooo sorry for

hot dogs, soo unfair! these type of so called oils/fats which are not really

oils nor fats, but fake versions thereof, deposit in the body as internal organ

fat as the fat that sits atop your heart, your kidneys and causes a fatty liver,

etc...(uh, major cause of massive amounts of cholesterol probs from messed up

liver) all hydrogenated oils are filled with heavy metals as well, they put in

quite the unsightly amount of the heavy metal nickel.... do not get lou ann for

weight loss... PURE coconut oil will not allow you to gain weight, it will

however convert into 40% Lauric Acid, the highest source of which in the world

besides coconut oil being Mother's Milk.. thus it is PURE heart food having so

much lauric acid, and those on congestive heart failure would LOVEEE this oil!!

.... I know of only 3 brands of the therapeutic grade Coconut oils...#1

healthline.cc, it's a grade 10, highest grading on earth, #2 is

uriinternational.com/phoenixguy888, #3 is www.tropicaltraditions.com which uh,

is having the greatest sale in the history of coconut oil of all time, 2 gallons

for $99 plus shipping ($114ish or so)...

normally I never recommend my clients get philippine's versions of coconut oil

which is 99% of all the oil sold in health food stores b/c of the prob with how

it is processed, it never seems to come out just right except for ONE - tropical

traditions... that is, except for tropical traditions philippines coconut oil,

all from philippines so far do not rate as therapeutic grade, usually b/c of

problems with weight loss or detoxing not occuring as it should... however, I

found out from trying it that it worked exceedingly well and had to recommend

them despite that fact that they were from philippines, but, I met a woman who

let me know... there was a reason why they were special, they're the only

coconut farm on earth that grows their coconuts with the special ORMUS called

ACE - Alternative Cellular Energy, that stuff is just freaky!!!! I know about

this Ormus since I also sell the stuff!(Monsanto, offered $110 million for that

recipe, and were told to go to ^)* & ^ ) anyway, it grows anything, including

coconuts, 2 - 3 x bigger and faster and increases mineral and vitamin and enzyme

and anti-infection content of anything grown with it by a MINIMUM of 2-3x!!! so

I had to laugh, and said NOOOO WONDER!!!

anyway, whatever, a possible 4th alternative is by drkim.com that's a coconut

oil from Malaysia... it's made in an unusual way that I did not know was

possible but you can read up on it anytime you like, also he said that it tastes

better and different than any other coconut oil on earth, I've really got to try

some...

Note for those who use Omega Nutrition - they have had NOTHING but a good name

in the nutrition industry as long as I've known them and my nutrition collegues

have told me their " deodorized " coconut oil is not harmful to humans despite the

deodorization process, therefore I've recommended it to my clients for even deep

frying with!!! not to mention cooking - however I'm still unaware of it's value

for weight loss and detoxing... but it's safe for the heart per collegues

recommendations, so for the moment I will NOT speak against them, and therefore

I do timidly recommend them...

be good

Note: You are listing two different names here. The “On the

label:” information below says LouAna Coconut Oil with an A on

the end.

Others are talking about LouAnn. These could be two different

brands, meant to confuse you into thinking you have the same thing. The LouAna

says non hydrogenated, all the messages about LouAnn say hydrogenated.

hi. do you use it in the bath or rubbing it on. do you get real greasy? i wondered that when i saw it. also, my nutive also says no trans fats or hydrogenated fats. the barleans coconut oil says it has omega 6 and has 266 mg also has omega 9 has 1050 mg. so i am sure if they are all virgin and organic, they have the same vitamins. diane, near philly, pa On Sep 3, 2009, at 1:25 AM, MysticalStarDancer wrote:The jar that I have and every jar that I've had says Non-Hydrogenated on the label. • 1 month later...

Coconut oil will raise metabolism and it also helps immune system work better. When I faithfully took 3T a day in food I lost 35# in several months and my temperature went up a degree and lost Rheumatoid Arthritis symptoms. Coconut oil can be quite helpful to healing. Also healed my gums so didn't need extra treatments any more. Haven't had cold, flu or sinus infection in 3-4 years either even with less use. Pam
