Dear Al...I've had severe pains on the right side of my chest, but not

the adrenaline rush feeling. I'm glad you've alerted your wife...please

don't hesitate to go to the ER or call 911 if things progress or get

worse. You're in my heart & in my prayers, dear Al.

Thanks, Tess. It's all subsided now and hopefully won't come back. I

think my wife is going to sleep with one eye open tonight. Poor thing.

Hi Lena,

I am definitely not ER-phobic but seem to be " okay " now. If I even

feel a twinge, I'll be gone.

Big Al,

If you don't want to go to the ER, what about a call to one of your doctors

right now? Better safe than sorry.

I'm counting on you to be in good enough health to bail me out of jail whenever

necessary.

Hi ,

That's not a bad idea. In fact, that's what I would tell someone

experiencing the same thing.

" Do as I say, not as I do " doesn't cut it here.

And you're right. You'll definitely need me at some point...;)

Hi Al, I have never been a long term sleeper...usually a couple hours at a

time, several years ago, mydoc sent me for a sleep eval..they said it was

inconclusive because I didn't sleep long enough for them to get an accurate

test so told me to go home and start sleeping for a mnimum of 6 hours a

night...obviously I didn't find that helpful...a few years later...I got

sent again for another sleep eval...with the newer technology they made some

good suggestions, tried a variety of different meds and I began sleeping

pretty regularly about 4-6 hours per night....then I got RA and I seem to be

back to the 1-2 hour at a time regime. However, I think I wake due to the

stiffness and pain from lack of movement....but pre-ra I did find their

suggestions helpful...I hope you get a sleep eval and see if the breathing

problems are connected...good luck to you in your search for yet another

relief to another frustrating situation...good luck to you...marge

Shandi,

I don't think we ever cyber-met. Hi. I never thought of Acid Reflux.

The only way I could desribe the sensation was like taking a needle

about the size of a nickel in circumference and jabbing it into the

right side of my chest around the lower right side of my heart.

You're right about the adrenaline rush. It was definitely my body

reacting to the sensation.

I'll definitely bring it up when my doctor calls.

Thank you.

Dear Al,

The last time that happened to me, I went to ER

because it really scared me. I have now had it

several times but it is no less scary. The first time

after the ER, I went and had an EKG at my doc's

office. It was fine but I'm still glad I didn't take

a chance. Mine was severe muscle spasms related to

computer usage. Did you use the computer a lot today

or any other repetitive function that would have

caused this pain? Was there any sweating to go along

with it? I have thoracic outlet problem that my

spasms were related to.

Anxiety is another cause that can mimic heart problems

and simulate a heart attach.

With all of the problems you have been having lately,

I wouldn't take any chances. If you experience any

more symptoms...,GO TO THE ER!

I am sending several angels to you along with this

email so they can watch over you...so you better

behave. Hugs, Iris

Gee Al, sounds like you should have gone to the hospital. How are you

Hi Marge,

Sorry to hear that you aren't getting much rest. Like you, there are

times when I can't sleep long due to the stiffness and pain from the

RA.

There are also times when I feel like a truck hit me and I am all

mussed up due to tossing and turning trying to get comfortable.

Thank you very much. I am remaining as hopeful as possible under the

circumstances.

Take care,

Al

OK Al,

We all know that this is your attention getting device.

See, this is how it works......Al complains of chest pain, his loyal cabana

girls must now administer CPR....Poor Al! He just wants one of his cabana

girls jumping on his chest. What I am looking for is someone to yell, CLEAR!

All kidding aside,I hope that these pains go away as fast as they came and

all is well. Take care of yourself. You are NEEDED!!!!!!

Al-

Chest pain is not something to fool with. It could be

nothing or any number of things. Believe it or not we

even have some joints in our ribs that can become

inflamed and hurt just like any flare. I have had lung

problems- developed two pulmonary embolisms about 2.5

years ago and so am real wary about chest

pain...particularly if there is any trouble breathing.

The meds we are on can cause thickening and circulatory

probs. I don't want to sound alarmist but I would not

wait until tomorrow am. I would have this checked out at

an ER or at least an emergent care clinic like a Redi-

Med kind of place...particularly true because of your

recent test results. Take really good care of yourself,

OK?

Keep us posted.

Hi Iris,

I am glad your pain was " only " muscle spasms, although I am sure

severe ones are no picnic.

I work at a computer every day. I feel extremely fortunate in that I

am still able to work full time. Sometimes over 40 hours easily.

I have never had this though and when I think about all the

difficulties breathing and chest tightness I have had these past few

weeks, believe they must be connected somehow.

In regard to stress or anxiety, I have never had much problems in

that regard. I do know, that one's tolerance can change and illness

can definitely impact how one is able to deal with anxiety. If it is

anxiety though, it's not situational, it's constant. There was no

sweating at all when I was having the pains.

I promise to behave. I certainly wouldn't want you, or the Angels

Displeased with me.

Hugs,

Al

Hi Al,

I've never had that happen, but I would certainly go to the hospital if it

happens a second time. Hopefully your rheumy will shed some light on the

situation.

It's like adding stress upon stress, because you're trying to deal with the

pulmonary situation still. I'm sorry you have to go through it. You're in

my thoughts and prayers.

Carol

[ ] Chest Pains

Hi Everyone,

On my nightly commute from work I started having acute pain on the

right side of my chest. It would happen and literally take my breath

away. After a couple of minutes it would stop and a few minutes later

start up again. This happened on and off for about 1/2 an hour.

When I finally got home, I put my wife on notice that I may need to

go to the hospital if it continued and got worse. It finally stopped,

but then it felt like I had the lingering effects of an adrenaline

rush. I was very shaky (sp?) for about 30 minutes.

On a positive note, I was still hungry so I was thinking it can't be

too bad.

I see my rheumy first thing tomorrow morning and will definitely tell

her.

Has anything like this ever happened to anyone? Please let me know.

My best to everyone. I hope you are having as pain free an evening as

possible.

Al, I don't know if you are having the same problem I have but it

sounds some what the same. My pains start and then as soon as it

feels like it is going away it starts again. It started once a few

years ago while I was working, I got pale, shakey and started

sweating, I couldn't do anything. I took tums and it finally quit,

the next time it happened I drank water and it went away, now as soon

as it starts I head for a glass of water. I have been told by one of

my doctors that it is esophogitis (sp?), I also have acid reflex.

When we moved to Washington I went to a internist (very thorough),

when I told him about it he sent me to have some kind of scan for my

heart, my heart is just fine. I am probably ready for another upper

GI because the acid reflex is worse. Don't know if that helps you

any but you might try water if it happens again, but talk to your

doctor about it.

trouble lately with the Acid Reflux and will need to talk to my

doctor again. I wasn't on the meds for a very long time because the

problem wasn't that bad, it also makes a difference when I try not to

You should probably mention the pain to your doctor, though. When I

get the pains I just think if this is anything like a heartattack I

hope I don't ever have one, but I guess I am somewhat limited in my

choices.

Hi Al,

I have gastritis with acid reflux too. I took prilosec, prevacid, aciphex,

and now I take protonix. The aciphex worked the best for me, but insurance

and all. You know what I mean. The protonix does ok, but almost anytime I

eat, I have to run to the bathroom. When I do have an " attack " now, I take a

dose of Mylanta and drink lots of water and no matter what, do not lie down

until you are sure its gone. It will get worse. Found that out the hard

way. Try not to overeat or eat before going to bed. That can also aggravate

the condition. The first time I got the pains, I thought I was having a

heart attack and went to the er. They gave me a GI coctail. (benadryl,

lidocaine, and mylanta) and sent me to a GI specialist who diagnosed the prob

after an endoscope. I hope this eases up for you. I know exactly how

painful it can be and would never wish it on anyone.

Love ya
