That was NOT LAW she was being told by the Delaware Department of Health -

only their fantasy. It's what they use to intimidate parents who are

unfamiliar with the law.

Nowhere in the Delaware law is that written.

Hi,this is what I could find on the web,I live in RI and our laws are

so different, all we have to do is sign a simple form that the school

nurse has to have available(according to the dept of health,my

daughter's preschool did not have it,my friend got them one).Good

luck!

Here is a quote from this vaccine lawyer's website:

http://www.immunizationattorney.com/

" The right to claim exemption from immunization based on religious

beliefs is available to all persons who hold religious beliefs

against immunization regardless of what any state statute may say

regarding the necessity for membership in any particular religious

group or church.

The first amendment to the U.S. Constitution prohibits states from

discriminating between people based on their religious beliefs. If

there is any state law that allows for exemption based on religious

beliefs, it is available to all those people who hold religious

beliefs against immunization even if their beliefs are personal and

unique to them alone. "

I just went and had it done. I didn't notorize it, they did. The

nurse did ask me what my religion was and I told him he was not

allowed to ask me that and he said his supervisor told him to and I

said it was illegal. They didn't know what they were doing. I had to

tell them and show them the law. First the nurse said I had to have a

letter from my doctor.........duh, thats medical exemption. What

idiots. I feel alot better that its done though. I was so nervous to

walk in there.

Congratulations, ! I know exactly how you felt. I went a couple of

weeks ago to our local health department to pick up 2 religious exemption forms

for my children. I expected a fuss, but got none. Yeah! I got the forms and

took them home and filled them out. I have them in my children's file here at

home. When we get notified by the school that they are past due for their

tetanus boosters, then I'll have the forms ready. We don't go to the doctor

anymore, so I don't need to give them one.

I was relieved that it was so simple (we're in Kentucky). I guess the true test

will come when I have to use them.

When I wrote ours I left it simple and short (I am in the U.S.) and it only had

to be signed by me. I basically stated that I, as parent to such-and-such child

refuse vaccinations due to religious beliefs according to such-and-such (your

state's) law. Then signed it!

You have to look at your state law and use the exact wording of the law

unless you are in NY or a few other states

always advise people to word exactly as their state law (except some states

are more challenging)

We need to know what state they are in.

Is it really for religious reasons? Becuase now they have added an

exemption which is " reasons of conscience " and that is all you have to

say. NO explanation. That is how I did mine.

Oh, this makes me nervous too. Anyone from Indianapolis IN? I will be

moving there and I know theirs is religious as well. I guess you have to

find a different school if they reject or do you fight it by saying it is

the law? Ugh...

It depends on the state you are in.

Some states you don't have philosophical exemptions and their religious

exemption is similar with similar wording

you can't recommend for anyone else until you know their state law.

Thank you Sheri for the information. The school nurse told me to hand my

letter in the summer and she will submit to the school board. The school

board will either accept it or tell me they need more information.

She also said if there is an outbreak that my daughter will be exempt from

attending school. She mentioned for example measles. I asked if she's ever

seen an outbreak of measles and she said no. I said what about whooping

cough and she said she's seen in her career as an nurse in a 6 week old

baby.

Most state's religious exemptions are very broad (almost like philosophical.)

If you are going to NC, PAVE is there - Jillani is a friend of mine

and is PAVE

Easy exemption in NC

BY THE WAY - I have moved to Wheeling WV (part time) and in Wales part time

for this year.

By next November will probably be in Wheeling fulltime except for my tours!

The religious exemption doesn't just apply to Christians. It applies to all

religions. I'm Buddhist and I'd use it in a heartbeat if I had to.

We will most likely be relocating in a year or two. I'm trying to

gather info on each state that DH is looking at (we're moving so he can

get his doctorate in religious studies). ATM he's really pushing for

NC. I'm researching the home schooling and VBAC status of the state as

well, but I found on the Vac Lib website that NC only allows medical or

religious exemptions.

How does one use the religious exemption if they are not Christian? The

sample letter on the Vac Lib site looks like you don't have to have a

clergy person's signature which would be a good thing. But would this

just cause more trouble for me if they found out I wasn't a Christian

person? I don't exactly hide the fact that I'm not.
