OK, I got SNS = sympathetic nervous system. Why, in the case of PA, would

the sympathetic nervous system become unstable? Does the parasympathetic

nervous system become unstable as well?

Adam, To some extent, yes, but only as a novice. I'm not sure where I

picked up the term (though I don't know of Jeavons), but it was

probably from permaculture or self-sufficiency books.

Also, thanks for your opinions. If any of my experiments yield

interesting results, I will duly note them here!

Dr. Grim, thank you for your reply.  With PA, do you expect the morning blood

pressure to be higher or lower than the rest of the day?

Hi ,

yes this is what I am trying to get at but don't have the necessary microbiology to work out.

I am just on a beginners dose of armour, still waiting for my adrenals to function on their own and for my anaemia to improve. i took molasses three times a day for the first month of my anaemia. i got through the whole tin but i have no wish to do that again- shall stick with liver and black pudding!

i find plain water to be of very little help, the headachey, lack of clarity, sluggishness resolves with salt water. but this must obviously alter the fluid/ mineral balance, resolving one problem but uncovering another- cystitis.

the adrenals forum has a very good explanation about cell osmosis and how this malfunctions with low adreanls/ thyroid and that sodium is actually being lost while fluid is seemingly being retained, resulting in oedema. I don't think that chain drinking water is the solution for what is a form of cell dehydration, due to cell malfunction, but yeah, it usually flushes away the cystitis!

Don't know about the rash but I would strongly encourage you to get him some behavior therapy regardless if he's on meds or not. I also only medicate my son during the school week (no weekends/holidays) but when he was your son's age, I got him into behavior therapy for three years which helped him and me tremendously.

Hey everyone,

My five year old son has PDD-NOS. He has also recently been diagnosed with Inattentive ADHD. We are trying a med just to see if it helps or not. If it doesn't help then we'll stop and try something non med related. He is currently taking Adderall XR 5 mg capsules. He has been taking them since Sunday morning. I only give it to him on the school days and let him go without it on the weekends and school holidays. I have enlisted the help of his teacher to let me know if it seems to be helping and if she thinks it makes him zombie or if she notices any side effects. Last night while I was giving him a bath I noticed a light red rash around his neck and shoulders and arms. I am wondering if he might be allergic to this med. Does anyone else's child take Adderall XR? If they do did they get a rash that went away with continuing treatment. If it doesn't go way I will have to take him back to the doctor to have it looked at. Anyway, any help would

be greatly appreciated and as always is a big help.

Dear and Leighanne,

Since I am not familiar with your particular medication, nor

physician's instructions, forgive me if the following remark is

inaaplicable...

I was told by paediatricians that it is not good to utilize meds

during the week and go off on weekends. With some, it alters how the

body receives the dosage so that by Monday, the drug is no longer in

their system and makes it difficult for the child as they are

constantly going through a swing back and forth.

Just a reminder to all to check with your doctor and follow

instructions.

I agree...my son's doctor told us not to give him his meds on the weekend or during school breaks....to give his body a break...it never made sense to me.....also, on the weekend,if he didn't take it ...and his friends were over....he was all over the place and turned them off plus he drove us crazy.

I use to think ....people with diabetes don't just take their meds. during the week and off on weekends. And, you are right...by monday the meds. are out of system and then the body has to adjust all over again?

I spoke with our doctor and he said to keep my son on his meds. all the time.

I'm glad you made that distinction. Nobody on this list should ever change medication dosages without first speaking to a doctor or pharmacist.

My son is on a medication routinely given to kids w/ ADHD that he can stop/start as we see fit w/ no side effects. He doesn't have to be on it every day for it to work or to prevent problems from inconsistent dosing. We've talked about other meds for him in the past (for anxiety) but those drugs he'd have to take every day, even in the summers and holidays, and I'm just not willing to do it. I want his body to take a break and for him to be "au naturale" at home with me in the evenings/weekends/holidays. He's fine not being on it at home. Doesn't mean we don't have problems b/c we do but I use behavior modification techniques with him that work so why medicate him?

Shar,

I'm very sorry your so sick right now. As for bringing on a flare I don't

know. I guess it all depends on how badly you mean a flare and where your

Still's might be at in the course of your disease. If it's already very bad

I would think yes, it might make it worse a lot but if your in a semi or

remised state maybe then you would just get a bit more achier and a bit more

than a person without Stills. I hope anyway. Like I said, no one really can

tell but the best thing is to not worry, take care of yourself and snuggle

down and rest.

Lots of hugs,
