Hi ,

I suffered from constipation too! Benefiber NEVER helped me at all. I have posted this before. I works for me and I used it everyday. You will have problems with constipation because of the amount of protein we eat. Try this.

My next challenge was constipation. When you eat protein you tend to have constipation. I tried different products for this and the one I have found that works best for me is Miralax. I buy the store band at Costco because it cost less. It works really well for me, and I just mix it in with my Protein drink every morning and I have NO problems with constipation anymore. Walking also helps with constipation. I was embarrassed to ask people on the board about constipation. I thought I was the only one who was having this issue then I found out a lot of people were having these issues. I also eat Almonds and that seems to help me too.

Hugs,

Suzanne

, if I were you, Id go to the doctor and get an X-Ray. The inability to eat and food coming back up suggest that this could be a bowel obstruction.Sent from my iPhoneOn Oct 15, 2010, at 3:12 PM, "" <movie_mommy@...> wrote:

Okay I asked it.. I am suffering from constipation..I want to go but can't. I have been drinking Benefibre and all it's doing is making me feel full. I tried to have some soup, had 1 bite and it came back up. I can feel I am full to the brim. I am 2 weeks 2 days post op and things have been going really good until these last couple of days. I am drinking warm water with lemon juice to try and get things moving, but so far no go..So I haven't eaten anything today besides 1 spoon of soup which came back up..I have been gaging and doing the throwing up motion but I am scared it might hurt my stomach. If anyone has any advice I would love to hear it. Thanks a bunch!

Miralax is a good product and works for many but do be careful.  If you don't drink enough water with that stuff it can cause constipation.I was going to suggest Mag Citrate.  But I don't think that is going to work.  It has too much volume, it's carbonated, and the OP was saying she is throwing up small quantities of soup.

It could also be a bowel obstruction as someone else pointed out as well.Benefiber doesn't work all that well.  It's not like Metamucil.  You have to take benefiber for a good month daily before it will kick in and do the job.  It's the nature of the product.  It isn't likely to work right away.

,

There's a number of laxatives here that have the same mode of action as Miralax. They are called hyperosmotic laxatives (or just plain osmotic laxatives). If you went to a pharmacy and requested an osmotic laxative, they should be able to point you to one. You may need a prescription for it. The ones I know off the top of my head are PEG 3350 and unabsorbed sugars like lactulose or sorbitol.

I don't use it regularly - I take one colace stool softener and 3 benefibre tablets / day and that seems to keep me pretty regular - but if i go more than 2 days without having a bowel movement, I take the restoralax once or twice and that seems to take care of the problem.

Good luck- I know how miserable you are feeling!

Yes I did when my detox pathways were not working well. Constipation is a common detox side effect.

Barry,

A good way to get things moving is to have a heaping teaspoon of psyllium husk powder in the morning with a big glass of water about an hour before breakfast; making sure to drink lots of water throughout the day. Kathleen

Hi ,

before using a laxative like 'Senokot' for example , I would first try upping the Vit C - and drink lots of plain water. You need high dosages of Vit C anyway, so you might as well put them to good use Usually dosages of 3000 -4000 mg/day will do the trick. I would not take more than 2000 mg in one go though, you have to build up tolerance or you could easily have 'an accident' . Better to distribute them throughout the day.

I always take 1000 mg first thing in the morning with my thyroid meds (both at my bedside), which ensures 'regularity' after breakfast <g>

Good luck,

Magnesium is also AWESOME for this problem. Probiotics also help, and digestive enzymes. But the magnesium is what has helped me the absolute most, besides thyroid medicine. I take a powdered magnesium citrate, as I hear it's the 2nd most absorbable form. The best form (supposedly) is magnesium oil, which I did try, but it's a body spray, and I never had time for it to dry before needing to get going in the morning, so that method didn't work for me. Good luck - it's a miserable problem and that, besides low energy and overweight, is my least-favorite aspect of hypothyroidism. Cherwyn

Hello everyone,

I need some help understanding something. I've been having problems with

constipation for over a week now, things were great before that. I've

increased fats, vitamin C and magnesium as suggested in the articles, but

nothing is helping. Could it be because I've been eating less vegetables

and more protein?

If it's because of retracing, I understand I have to wait before it gets

better, but what about getting the toxins moving out of the body? I'm doing

all this detoxing but not getting it out. Doesn't that create a conflict?

+++Hi April,

You can become constipated if you increase your proteins too high and are not

consuming at least the lower range of your fat ratio.

Also your body will retrace each and every past episode you had with

constipation.

Wait for what, and what kind of conflict are you talking about?

Toxins are moving out of your body all of time, even when you are unhealthy.

They go out through many areas including lungs, liver, kidneys, skin, mouth,

ears, genitals, fingernails, teeth, etc.

Most toxins ingested currently are sent to the liver by the small intestines for

detoxification before they can ever get to the large intestines.

Hi again Bee,

You told us about how it took 20 months before your brother's diarrhea

finally stopped. Even though I haven't had constipation for at least a

couple of years, I have had a lot of problems in the past. I'm wondering

how I can get through months or years worth of retracing constipation.

If I am detoxing with skin brushing and foods, I will be stirring up toxins

so I'm worried about not being able to get enough of them out of my body if

I'm constipated. Wouldn't that be a big burden on skin, liver, kidneys etc?

** Hi April - I can't answer your question directly but Bee has an article on

her website concerning treatment of constipation:

<http://www.healingnaturallybybee.com/articles/dig1.php>

You can read thru this (and you can find other articles on the same topic on

Bee's site by using her great search engine in the upper right hand corner of

every page) while you await Bee's return in the morning...

You will continually see that the whole program works together to bring healing

to your body. Try not to worry about what might be ahead. Just work in to her

program at a good pace and stick with it. We're here if you need help.

Thank you for your supportive message . I had read the article and

increased what I could according to that, though I'm not at the level of

fats I should be yet. I'm up to 4 Tablespoons of fat per day, I'll try to

increase by another tablespoon tomorrow.

*** April - don't rush increasing your fat intake. Even if you increase it by

1/2 Tbsp/day would be helpful. Sit there for 4-5 days, then increase again.

You will get there where you are following the program completely.
