Neither of us are taking supplements, and Mischa has only had iron-fortified

formula a couple of times when much younger, and she has never had any formula

of any kind.

I'd try flax seed sprinkled on anything! This may be harder for a baby of

this age. You could grind it up and make a cereal out of it and give it to

her that way. I'd also take her to get adjusted by a Chiro. If you have a

Myopractor in your area than THAT'S where I'd take her but they're hard to

find. They're like Chiropractors only more " detailed. " They adjust organs as

well as spine. Hard to explain but sometimes baby's intestines can get

somewhat kinked as they grow and Myopractor adjustments can really help.

How bout prune juice? I know mine wouldn't take it, but not every child is

the same. I know that's what my pediatrician suggested. If that doesn't

work, apple juice may.

Hi Lori:

My little boy, Evan, has been fighting constipation for almost 3½ years now.

When the problem first started, our pediatrician recommended that we put a

teaspoon of dark Karo syrup in his morning bottle/cup of milk. This worked

for quite a while.

But, now that he has gotten a little older, and still doesn't have the muscle

tone of most kids his age, he is on prescription medications for the

constipation problem. Let me know if you want more details. We've been

through a lot on this subject.

Have you tried the baby food jars of prunes? You can add it to cereal in

the morning. This always helped my son.

Ok Ok I was not going to tell this on myself but since it might help

a friend here goes.........I have never had a problem with

constipation until I tried to take my protein powder like I do my

citrucel.......in a shot glass. It went down fine but it did not come

out fine lol.

Later that day, I was in so much pain and discomfort ,and not yet

realizing it had anything to do with the protein powder.....I went in

to see my PCP......I thought I was having a gallbladder attack!

I mean it was hurting JUST like the books all said a gallbladder

would. I had spasms that gripped me right under my rib cage.

And man I mean GRIPPED me! I have never hurt so bad in my

life!

Even my Doc thought that was what was going on and

scheduled me for a gallbladder ultrasound!

Then on the way home, my pain shifted....and shifted and shifted

until it was pretty darn low. Since I was alone in my car I

embraced the " barking spider " in me. After the serenade..... you

guessed it....my gallbladder attack went away.

I was SO embarrassed that I had run to my Doc for gas! Now my

husband keeps trying to comfort me with... " Well Baby it still could

have been a gallbladder attack. Sometimes, they go away as

quickly as they come. "

But I know......I know it was gas and constipation from that damn

protein!

So, Manda, check into your protein schedule....before you go to

the Doc. LOLOLOL

<Just wondering if anyone has experienced a bad case of

Are you taking your Citrucil like Dr R told us to do??? It usually

PREVENTS constipation AND diarrhea. As an added bonus, I have

found that (for me) it also greatly reduces hideously smelly gas. If I

skip ONE dose, I have to RUN from myself all the next day.

One teaspoon in the morning and one at night, mixed in juice should

do the trick, plus, it coats and protects your stomach like Dr R wants

us to do.

Good luck!

Benefiber does not coat and protect the stomach which is one of the reasons

that Dr. R wants us to use Citrucel.

They are also different kinds of fiber.

Citrucel is methylcellulose and benefiber is guar gum.

The Benefiber " technically " does the same as far as constipation (i.e.

adding fiber to your diet) but it is not the same chemical. Dr. R says

it is not the same...

There is a new Citrucel Clear Mix which is like Benefiber in that it

mixes in virtually anything and is virtually tasteless.

my pcp has given me Bentyl, which helps with constipation and the

opposite. It is usually used for irritable bowel syndrome, but it

works.

Um, it is not the stature of the person which causes this problem, it

is what we eat; anyone who has a diet low in fiber is prone to being

Not so true Dawn,

It is what you system is prone to. Some of us don't realize that we may

have a pinched nerve coming from our spinal column, known as our root

nerves. When these little suckers can and will get pinched off for some of

us, and they tend to fowl things up in the intestinal regions.

I know, I never really had any problems until my first surgery, then I

was in for the time of my life. From that moment on, my system was either 3

things, regular, spastic, or constipated. Later, I was to find out about my

spine curving inward, some of you call it spinal collapse, but it caused my

root nerves to be pinched and what happened next is worse than what all the

side affects of all the medicines that are advertised on television will

give you. You can eat nothing and have Montezuma's Revenge, or eat nothing

but Jell-O and be constipated.

So don't blow off spinal problems, because it can very easily be just

that. One little pinch, and you're a regular at the company bathroom, or the

Ex-Lax counter. And some of you are laughing you butts off at this, well

don't be, because it gets to you as you begin to age, 30 to 40, so it won't

be too long before we see you being track stars or a campers at the

bathrooms. But if you want total constipation, get your spinal cord snapped,

you don't have a clue what constipation is yet.

I have heard physicians tell parents of lps that constipaton can be a problem,

in any age of dwarf individual. It does matter on the individual, diet,

exercise and diagnosis. I know that spinal stenosis patients can have problems

with both bowel and bladder. Some of the younger achondroplasts need to drink

apple juice and extra fluids to stay regular on a daily basis. Some of the

older generation take extra fiber or softeners, that goes for the general

overall population also. Whatever works for you? Don't be afraid to ask your

physician about it.

Well guys, I stand corrected.

I guess since I myself have no problem-so far thank the Lord, and

after my dad lost use of his legs since his spinal cord was so

severely pinched, his doctor performed a colostomy on him so as to

keep him from soiling himself.

This topic is never discussed and who will ask someone else how

regular are their BMs.

This goes to show everyone, we are never too old to learn from

others, and I just learned what can and does happen to some.
