It is like a miracle, it is also a good healthy drink. > > > > I am becoming even more constipated since using iodine. I'm not sure why..I drinks lots of water, exercise and eat healthy. Guest guest
Jag, Oh if it were that easy. I can try " remedies " for this only to have it work for a week and then completely stop working and actually backfire! Please be polite. Guest guest
Fiber is always the answer. Personally, I have 2 tablespoons of flax seed (ground in a coffee grinder) each moning with oatmeal. When I have other things I have "some" constipation, showing that without this I'm not getting enough fiber. A source of fiber is needed by all. Vegies help of course. Processed foods are bad, back in the early 1900's, white bread was a good remedy for the runs as it caused constipation. I surmise that holds true for all processed grains as the fiber is removed and little is left. Magnesium isn't "for" constipation, but it will cause a reaction when taking more than tolderance. Ditto vit C when going overr bowel tolerance. Best is always fiber, and lots of water as dehydration will cause it as well. Psyllium also works well, but again, add water during the day. Guest guest
Lee Ann, If you are having problems with constipation, and water and fiber are not helping, it would be a good idea to listen for bowel sounds in all four abdominal quadrants with a stethoscope for at least a minute in each quadrant. Having constipation is a lot different than not having bowel sounds. A lack of peristalsis (as evidenced by a lack of bowel sounds) is a dangerous situation, and should not be allowed to continue for any length of time. I bring this up b/c some medications and supplements can cause this. Not saying that iodine does at all, but it would be a good idea to be sure that good bowel sounds are present. This can also be caused by some of the high fiber cleansing regimens, especially those that use peristaltic teas along with the fiber. Some people react just the opposite, and peristalsis stops instead of being stimulated. Hope this helps, Mike > > Jag, > > Oh if it were that easy. Also taking fiber such as> Metamucil or Citrucil or eating bran flakes or muffins can help. You guys> have to think logically and use common sense! How do you handle> constipation? Fiber!"Actually, NOT everyone does well with fiber. When I was severely hypo and untreated, the more fiber I put into me, the worse I felt, the more weight I gained, the more pain I was in. It also didn't seem to matter how much Mg or C I took. Now, in some ways mine was a complicated case w/a variety of issues, and I finally got into a multi-modal program that included gyn, colo-rectal, gastro, and a dietician. It wasn't until after more than a year at the pain clinic however, did they pin it down, in spite of excruciating pain, due to a ganglion at the base of my sympathetic trunk. My primary only did TSH, never antibodies for Hashis (an underlying problem), and specialists ALWAYS assume the primary doc has checked thyroid out. (Even the neurologist never connected neuropathy issues w/Hashis and hypothyroidism, which has disappeared w/T3 or Cytomel.Look, I tried all kinds of fiber and water and really truly pushed them (plus exercise, pelvic floor also). Only 2 things helped constipation issues until my ganglion was fried and my thyroid was appropriately treated and assessed by other than TSH. After the team (almost casually) mentioned that "Some people just don't do well with fiber" and I cut it out, I also ran across OxyPowder which helped me get re-regulated. It was amazing! But the team had also suggested I try 1-2 T of MOM at night which for some reason, I was adverse to trying. But I ran out of the OxyPowder, and eventually did try it, and now I keep it on hand when things occasionally slow up a little. Honestly, MOM worked well whereas all other amounts of Mg & C didn't. (Personally I now prefer the concentrated strawberry.) I don't know the relationship of constipation w/Iodine, but I do know thyroid made all the difference in the mobility of my digestive track, with definitely less fiber. Check Stop The Thyroid Madness to learn about thyroid, check thyroid antibodies, and Free T.4 AND Free T.3 levels, maybe also RT.3 and adrenals. By the way there is an alternate view on fiber I have since run across called Fiber Menace. I really rarely have problems now, but the OxyPowder was a Godsend at the time. Best of luck,

Guest guest
Magnesium may not be " for " constipation, but, along with fiber, and since we are all low on Magnesium anyway, a tbsp of Milk of Magnesia (not store brand) in warm milk will help, and it will help you sleep, as well. Guest guest
Fiber with lots of water along with adequate magnesium.  FWIW, Metamucil makes a completely clear fiber supplement that has no taste.  It's 5mg fiber per heaping tsp. I put it in my morning coffee and also use it to reduce the carb count of things like home-made pizza crust.  It is made of inulin which is a prebiotic that is actually good for your gut in other ways. Guest guest
Constipation can also be a symptom of hypothyroidism and nothing will help but proper medication.  Iodine can suppress the thyroid, particularly at the beginning of supplementing.
