(so becoming hypert is a possibility). If that's the case, how soon could that happen? My dr's solution is to tell me to come back to see him for guidance on taking the iodine, which I can't afford to do right now. So wondering if anyone here has gone through this on their own. > > > > > > > > > > > > Reply to sender | Reply to group | Reply via web post | Start a New Topic > > > Messages in this topic (11) > > > Recent Activity: a.. Guest guest
Dear RandyK, I am sad to hear of your plight. I wish I could help. All I can offer you are my tutorials to help you pass the exam and my ability to help answer any questions you may have.. You left me no option to encourage you as you said " Please don't tell me to keep going on and someday you'll make it, the reason I say that is because if I don't I can tell myself the same thing living in the street. " You did say " I don't know what to do " . With that I can say study the best you can and take the exam. If you pass go back to the employers that wanted you to have a CPhT to interview again when they have an opening or contact them anyway. One of them may wish they could have hired you, have a current opening, you never know. Please know that I care, you are in my thoughts and prayers. See the File #5 for all the tutorials. I realize you said money is a problem for the exam. Try collecting cans, babysitting, running errands for home bound snowed in elderly etc etc. to save up the money. I am serious. I have had several students in class who did just these things ( no snow bound here, but house bound) And they were able to raise the money within a few months. Check Craig's list to see if someone wants the leaves raked etc. Go door to door to offer your services,, washing dishes, laundry etc. Someone may take your makeshift card and call you/email back later. I hope this may help you. I really do not know what to say because my first desire and reaction is to tell you exactly what you told me not to say. So I am focusing on you taking the exam and making some money from odd jobs to pay for it. Hope this helps, Jeanetta Mastron CPhT BS Founder/Owner From: randall k <randyleroy1@...> Subject: What to do? Date: Thursday, October 14, 2010, 3:32 PM Hi, Jeanetta. I have been a member of your site, for quite some time. I live in the state of Indiana, I have my state license, training certificate, but it seems more then something to show that I accomplished at one time than actually getting into the profession. I been interviewed with three MAJOR mass chain pharmacies, and I am still looking for work. I was told that I should wait to get my National Certification, then the last interview I went on was with CVS pharmacy, and I was told I didn't get the position was because I didn't have it. I am studying for the National Certification test anyway(I figured I have come this far)have Mosby's book, techlectures book, made my own drug cards to study. I just don't have the funds for the test. I know the job market is bad everywhere, but I have applied to 60 pharm tech jobs across the state. I have no criminal record, passed multitudes of drug screenings, but here I still sit. I am about ready to give up, I don't know what to do. Please don't tell me to keep going on and someday you'll make it, the reason I say that is because if I don't I can tell myself the same thing living in the street. Guest guest
Dear Randy, Please allow me to also suggest volunteering at a pharmacy or hospital pharmacy. It is this method that I and others on this site have suggested to several members over the years since 2002, that has helped them to get experience and get hired. You may also want to take a look at interview tips on the web. Google search for such free advice. Your resume must be good since you get your foot in the door. There may be some thing you are saying or phrasing that may be preventing you from landing that job. Feel free to email me personally/privately with any specific question that you are not sure if you are answering it correctly or not. I may not have the exact answer, but I teach job seeking skills: resume building and interviewing techniques. Hopefully something I have written will help you, Respectfully, Jeanetta Mastron CPhT BS F/O From: randall k <randyleroy1@...> Subject: What to do? Guest guest
Randy... A bit of further advice...you may want to have someone look at your resume and make sure it is as polished as possible. You will also want to make sure you are selling yourself well. You can consult a technical writing instructor at your local community college, or perhaps a graduate student in technical writing for no cost. You will want to put together a nice cover letter with an opening statement that makes the company you are applying to REALLY want to hire you. Make sure you call them after applying to ensure they have received your application and thank them for taking the time to review it. Follow that up with a thank you note to the hiring manager...whether you get the job or not!! Another opening might come along and you will be in the forefront of their mind. And work on your handwriting...many companies still take hand written aps in order to screen your attention to detail and neatness...the docs can get away with the slop, but techs cannot! Make sure when you drop off an application in person you are showered, well groomed and wearing slacks and a shirt with a collar. Best of luck!! Guest guest
Hi Randy, I'm in California and I too have a State License and I am a CPhT. But in California CVS has a hiring freeze. I did my externship with them and I can't even get an interview... So if you have had 60 interviews wow you are lucky. Something will come up for you it's a numbers game I guess. I can't even find the numbers to interview with. I can't seem to get into to any hospitals because my experience is in retail. So I am not sure what to do next. All I can say is hang in there, maybe take something at Target or Walmart and wait until a Tech position opens. That is what I will probably have to do too... Even with a CPhT. As far as studying for the test goes. Know those drugs and be up on all the hospital math because it is definitely on the test... Guest guest
Thank you ! I am sure we are both on the same waive length here since we both teach pharm techs and career prep classes. Randy, I just found this link and I must ask you to read ALL the way through! You will find the part about RESUMES and INTERVIEWS what and I have been talking about. Usually when a person goes on lots of interview it means the resume is selling you a chance to get your foot in the door for an interview. But if you are scoring many interviews and no bite it could mean we are not selling ourselves in the interview or we are being too cocky. Of course it could mean that there are 100 people better than we/you are or 100 people more experienced etc. But usually it means we need to go back to interview skills. http://www.facebook.com/note.php?note_id=136894017870 I do hope you will practice with a mirror, tape recorder and a friend. Try to anticipate the questions that you may be asked and practice what you would say. Hope this helps, Jeanetta Mastron CPhT BS Founder/Owner > > > > > > > Hi, Jeanetta. Guest guest
Dear All, The last link and this one is from a good pharm tech buddy of mine named Ronnie in CA: http://www.careerealism.com/resume-stand-todays-job-market-part-1/ The above is about resume and the first one was more about interview skills. Thanks to Ronnie! Jeanetta Mastron CPhT BS > > > > > > > > > > > Hi, Jeanetta. I have been a member of your site, for quite some time. Guest guest
Another tip... A couple of the ladies who completed my last class were volunteering in the hospital pharmacy greeting patients at the outpatient pharmacy and checking outdates at the inpatient pharmacy as a way to get known and hopefully secure a position!
