, Just wanted to say HI!!! I'm one of those people who have taken on that mental attitude. I didn't put it on overnight, so I can't take it off overnight. I also have 200 lbs to lose. I figure if I'm losing an inch or more a week then I'm doing good. wtxgeekgirl <wtxgeekgirl@...> wrote: My name is and I am almost desperate. I would like to know of anyone on the list here that has lost a significant amount of weight and what they did to do so. Thanks,

Your right, it's a life style change. I remember when was on General Hospital, he said what do the first 3 letters of the word diet spell. DIE. So he called it a liveit program. I started using fitday. I love it. I use s plan cuz he follows the diabetic pyramid, and that works best for me.

Welcome . Start by doing a journal. Remember water, portions, and exercise are key to any program. Remember any diet is calories eaten and burn result in lose or gain. Pick a program that works for your lifestyle. By taking inventory of your life and then doing it again in a few weeks you will see changes. Remember Rome was not built in a day. Dont look at it as a diet BUT a healthy lifestyle.

Hello Dottie, I am 3 '8 and married to AP. I too have not been around LP growing

up . Infact I never saw one until I was 12. then when I was 16 I was very down

because I thought I couldn't drive. Then one day I meet and got to know

Stephaine. She took me to my first meeting and told me all she knew and How to

drive and everything. I'm very glad she did. Because my parents didn't have a

clue. I am the only LP in my family. even my twin brother is AP as well.

Maya,

Thanks for sharing this painful experience! I ache for you and your sadness, but it took alot of courage to post it. Keep venting and doing whats best for you!

Hello all

Hi Everyone,You may not recognize me, because I am a consummate lurker, but something had happened regarding my weightless and I wanted to share it. I guess I should start at the beginning. I decided to start actually working at losing weight about 4 months ago. I was doing really good and had lost 30 lbs. I was on a total upswing. Then, for reasons unrelated to my weight, about 3 weeks ago, I decided to take too much zoloft (on purpose). I immediately realized what I had done and how mind-blowingly stupid it was, and got my Dad to take me to the hospital. I drank charcoal and was perfectly fine. The issue regarding my weight came in the aftermath.Ever since the incident I had found it impossible to be healthy. For the first week I did not care, and in the second I grudgingly realized I had to be heathy because my body was pissed at me for being mean to it. But for the next week, I was simultaneously obsessed with food and had a hatred for my body I had never had before (at least not since I was 13). I gained 6 lbs of my much delighted 30 lbs. I was in an utterly ridiculous paradox. I was eating allot because I desperately wanted to be the person I was before I decided to lose weight--the person who did not really allow her to care about her appearance. In an effort to re-live that I was eating constantly, as if doing so would make me not have to be the person who had to work so damn hard just to be somewhat overweight. But doing that was in turn making me more body obsessed. It was not until I talked with my therapist last weekend about it that it became clear. She said I wasn't allowing myself to feel miserable. Now, admittedly she says this allot, that like many people, I don't allow myself to feel my feelings because they are unpleasant. But in this case the result was immediate. I spent two days in a miserable fury. Just wallowing in my own pain. And the obsession with food receded. It was as if I was obsessing on food so I would not have to face how shitty everything was.I don't know if this relates to anyone in 100-plus.It really kills me sometimes, I will be on top of the world with all the weight I lost. And then look around and realize, that even when I reach my goal weight (180 lbs.) I will still be fat to most people. I never wanted to be that girl. The girl who carefully thought on what she ate and thought she was not good enought because she just happened to be fat. But at some point I realized I was 284 lbs and I could not even see myself anymore, as if I had just become my weight. And as I lose more weight (not that anyone noticed the difference between 284 and 254, ironically) I just feel more vulnerable and more unhappy. I guess on one level I don't want to lose all this fat. It is protecting me from all the awful things out there.I guess I thought of this when I saw say that she really really wanted those cookies on the day she weighed in. It reminded me that to an extent, we want ourselves to fail. Failure is easier sometimes, everyone is so used to it.I have only been back on 2000-2,500 calories a day for 2 day now, but my body feels a million times better. And my heart feels a million times worse.-Maya

Hi Maya, I wanted to let you know that you are not alone. I used to OD on meds back when I really really hated myself. I had to drink that nasty charcoal. I haven't tried to do anything like that for three years now. I only told you that, so that you know that you are not the only one who has done that. I'm glad you are seeing a therapist. I hope that she/he can really help you. Unfortunately I found for myself I was worse when I was seeing a therapist. So I don't see one any more. I think it would probably be the therapist that you work with. I just hope that you get what you need out of the therapy. Some times when I hate myself I will eat anything and everything I can find. It is hard to want to change that when you are feeling so bad. I just wanted to say that I understand. Any time you need to talk you can write me off list if you want to. I will be a listening ear if you want. Some times we don't need advice, we just need someone to hear us. from MO.

Mike,

Thanks for checking in with us. It seems as if you have come a long way back in the space of less than a month. Generally things sound positive with you, though I know its been no "walk in the park" either.

How long do you have to have the j-tube in, since you are not using it?

Have you had any reflux?

Always good to hear from you, continue taking more steps forward.

This is soft foods, although I talked with the doctor's office and I can now eat "soft" meats, like meatloaf, so long as it's covered in gravy, etc. Everything is going down good, although I still don't have much of an appetite and eating is more of a "chore" instead of fun. Hopefully that will improve with everything else. The incisions don't hurt, just sore, like a bad bruise or sunburn. The one on my right side is more sensitive than the stomach one. Can't finish an entire resturant meal yet. Have to watch some foods, have some "dumping" issues too. The biggest issue now is with the j-tube. It seems to be trying to work its way out of me (or my body is trying to push it out). It "leaks" a discharge around the skin to the point I have to put a bandaid over it or it leaves a spot on my shirt. They told me that I only have to flush it once a day now, since I'm not using it. This is good because it can sometimes be a little tender when that is done. Once my appetite comes back and I can eat well I'll feel fairly normal. Dear Mike, It is good to hear from you again. It is hard for us all to be patient - we want to get better in leaps and bounds. But try to take it one day at a time. The day will come when you can look back on this time and you will see how far you have come. Take it easy. This is your time for healing. Hi Mike,

It's good to hear from you and you sound like you are doing well.

What was the estimate on how long until you can drive?

Also, are they anticipating taking out the j-tube on your visit the

24th?

Not to get too detailed, but as for the dumping issues you mentioned,

have you found it's with certain foods, or is it when you eat too much

at once?

I'm so happy for you that things are going well. You seem to be making

great strides and I wish you all the best. Just remember, every day is

progress, and things will only get better!

Hey :

Good to hear from you. The j-tube stays in intil I go back to UVA on

the 24th. Unless they feel there's a problem they should take it out

then.

I haven't had any reflux issues at all. Of course my diet has been

pretty bland up to this point. I did eat hotdogs (just the meat) the

other night and dipped them in mustard for taste. That didn't cause

me any problems so hopefully there won't be any issue there.

Thanks for writing and I'll check in every few days.

Hey :

Good to hear from you. Yes, I should get the j-tube out on the 24th.

As for driving, I suspect I'll be cleared for that when I'm cleared

to return to work. My Dr is very cautious, I imagine he'll give

the " go ahead " on work and driving after the first week of Nov.

As for the dumping, it's kind of unusual. I don't need to " go " right

after eating, it's usually an hour or two after. I'll have the

stomach " rumblings " etc then off to the bathroom. Sugars can

sometimes be a problem, as well as fatty foods. It's not too bad

now, I usually only have to " go " 2-3 times a day. They say that as

my activity improves, so will my appetite, and then my system

should " regulate " itself.

Thanks for the line and I'll check in every few days.

Damnb!, Mike, but this slow and nasty disease is really keeping you inside and I completely understand the "cabin fever" jazz. You sound very upbeat, though, and you deserve some R & R as soon as you can get it. The recuperation period is so important. I think I rushed way too soon to go on my business trips after my Hellers. Nothing as complicated as the Ectomy, as everyone here knows. But recuperation time is good, even though it means hanging around the homestead for a while. I'll think good and healing thoughts for you, all best, Deborah
