Guest guest
I'm by no means an expert but I had thought the rule of thumb was probiotics at least 6 hrs after antibiotics. If you give probiotics too close to the dose of antibiotics you're basically just eliminating them (with the bad bacteria--antibiotics work to eliminate both good and bad bacteria). My 3 1/2 year old grandson has had a respiratory infection, not really bad, but the dr. put him on ammoxicillin for 10 days. Not sure if it was necessary, since I think it was a virus. But I know that antibiotics can destroy the flora in the intestinesand I want to know if we should get some probiotics for him when he is finished with the med. Also his personality has seemed to alter from a wonderful, sweet child to an unbearable brat. Can antibiotics affect a persons behavior? Maybe I am reaching on that because I cannot bear to think that he is going to behave like this from now on. B.
Guest guest
I've only read 2 hours. If you wait 6 hours and it's an Rx for 4 times a day, you won't ever get a chance to give them. http://www.youravon.com/teastep http://www.youtube.com/user/mothertory From: <linbec59@...>Subject: antibioticsVaccinations Date: Monday, November 1, 2010, 1:32 PM I have couple of questions I hope someone can help me with. Guest guest
On the flip side, if you have the once a day kind that lasts for a long time, maybe that's where the six hours comes in (although I'd think the probiotics wouldn't have much of a chance until the course of antibiotics is done). Guest guest
I was just going by the one time I actually filled a prescription for antibiotics (penicillin) for my kids. It was prescribed 2x/ day, so 6 hrs would be in-between the doses every 12 hrs. I guess the point is to just avoid giving them near the time of the antibiotic dose. Guest guest
Oh, sure. I would definitely do it knowing it might not do all you wanted it to. At worst, it would be wasted but certainly worth a try. Guest guest
TrudyPlease be overly careful getting around. Falling is quite common on tx. I thought for sure that I was simply going to lose my knees from all the falls I took. Do you remember when I was telling the group, sometime back about falling out of bed?? That became a habit on tx and has not happened once since tx has been over. However, wouldn't it be better to use an over the counter cream with a big bandage for the knee??Now, I'm trying to think. I hate antibiotics and it takes a lot for me to go see a Dr. about anything that I might need that to treat. Yet, I had 3 colds during the last tx and I'm not a person that is inclined to get colds. I think it was the 2nd one that I did have to take antibiotics for.Gloria My Doc said for me to go to Walk-in Clinic for urine test and be sure it's a UTI.( I know, Teri, " told ya so". But made a comment about not wanting to be on antibitics while on TX. Anybody know what that was about?? Do they negate the TX?? Never heard anybody mention this. I also need antibiotics for my leg. I fell TWICE this morning. Maybe 10 mins apart. But I scraped up my leg pretty bad. Guest guest
Trudy,I was on antibiotics several times during treatment... usually for skin infections from that silly rash that I'd scratch. I was constantly getting things infected. Once or twice for being just sick too... Not sure why he wouldn't want you on antibiotics.. that UTI ain't gonna clear up on its own. Guest guest
How well I remember!! There was absolutely no reason for any of my falls; but, there it was, my kneecaps scraped regularly. It was almost as though there was an instant or something, where my leg just didn't have any feeling whatsoever. Yet, it sure did feel the fall. Guest guest
My personal opinion about antibiotics is that 1 day is too many and personally, I would stop immediately even being in the middle of the prescription. If you break the meaning down of the word down it answers the question... Antibiotic...anti means against right? Biotic means life...So, antibiotic means Anti-life. Pro means For...so, probiotic means for life. With that said, I would recommend she make massive amounts of milk kefir, which is better than water kefir. She should drink several glasses, maybe 3 a day and make sure she is also eatin PRE-Biotics also...quinoa is one such prebiotic. Another way to get the good guys back into the gut is to take Dr. Ohhira's Probiotics. They are considered one of the best. You can find tons and tons of real health information on www.naturalnews.com and listen to the Bell show on the naturalnews radio or read his blog at www.robertscottbell.com. Mercola is also another good site to get good info. I hope this helps, Al antibiotics Hi, my daughter is on antibiotics (and has been for weeks now). I gave her some mk grains in milk to take home. We were wondering , should she wait one more week till she is off the antibiotics, or should she drink the mk while on the antibiotics. Thank you, Lydia
Guest guest
<<We were wondering , should she wait one more week till she is off the antibiotics, or should she drink the mk while on the antibiotics.>> Lydia, I was on long-term antibiotics for 5 years and always took any probiotic mid-way between abx doses. You don't have to wait - in fact it will help restore the good flora to start kefir immediately. Of course, now I'm trying to undo the damage but that's another story... Guest guest
> The reason for medication resistent bacteria and TB are the doctors prescribing antibiotics for everything under the sun and for things that have nothing to do with bacteria...cold, or other viruses or long term antibiotics for acne...they do this just to make the patient feel better that they " did something. " .. . . That is definitely one reason for resistant bacteria. Another reason, and probably the biggest reason, is the routine feeding of antibiotics to livestock. Anyone eating CAFO beef, chicken, dairy, and/or pork, besides eating meat fed an unnatural GMO grain, candy, (including the candy wrappers,) artificial hormone (often, especially in the case dairy, GMO hormone,) stale cake and bread, chicken poo, along with other nasties, is also consuming huge quantities of antibiotics with their meat. According to FDA, in 2009, approx. 29 MILLION POUNDS of antibiotics were fed to CAFO animals. These animals consume far more antibiotics in their feed than are prescribed to humans, and everyone eating CAFO meats is routinely consuming antibiotics. This is actually the far more pervasive reason for superbugs than not finishing one's Rx antibiotics prescribed by a doctor. The majority of the US population eats antibiotics every time they eat meat, which is generally at least once every day. We love our pasturing farmers! I could never go back to eating factory meat, eggs, or dairy. I'd rather go vegetarian than eat that nasty, toxic stuff. Cheers,
