Hi Connie,

I am confused with your test result. Is it given

in two different measurements? Those new IU's don't

count over 800,000, according to what I've read and

the results on others' reports. Some people have

gotten results back showing both copies/ml and IU/ml.

It would be just like these labs though if they have

some new way of reporting these tests! I HATE change,

LOL! If that is 3,484,600 copies/ml isn't that a big

drop from the last time you had a viral load test?

Really big drop, it was 29 million copies before. I

am not sure which test they did it just has <550

IU/mL after it. I am wondering if one of the 2 tests

were incorrect, being that there is such a big drop in

the viral load.

It could be a normal drop. The viral load often goes

way up when treatment is stopped, and then drops back

down. Is that closer to what your viral load was

before you did treatment the first time? Back to the

IU/viral load test. One person did say that her lab

said that their IUs were the same as copies per ml.

So naturally, my question would be if they are the

same, why change? LOL!

It was 7.5 million before starting treatment,in March

of 99. I was started on the meds then, immediately.

All I have read previously about the new (to us

anyway) IU method of reporting viral load said that

the upper limit of the test was 800,000 and that to

convert it to copies per ml you multiplied by 2.5 or

2.3 or 3 (those are the different amounts I've heard.)

Going by that formula it would put your new

pretreatment viral load very close to what it was

before you went on treatment before. So maybe the lab

you are using uses a test that has a higher upper

limit. I haven't heard anything like that, but your

test results did say IU! That is really interesting.

Cher,

Your viral load is the amount of specific viruses

that you have, in a given volume of your blood .

More precisely, it means that the amount of Hep C

genetic material found in your blood corresponds

to as many Hep C viruses as the given number says.

There appears to be no significant correlation

between HCV RNA levels and ALT values or

histological activity in patients untreated by

anti-viral therapies (Interferon). Viral load

varies between infected individuals but is not a

useful prognostic indicator nor does it measure

the severity of virus-induced liver disease.

HCV-RNA (qPCR)-negative] is defined as less than

100 copies/ml of hepatitis C viral RNA as measured

by the National Genetics Institute assay.

200,000 to 1,000,000 low

1,000,000 to 5,000,000 medium

5,000,000 to 25,000,000 high

above 25,000,000 very high

Your viral load of 3.5 million comes in th mediun

category.

I hope this helps.

Many of us have high viral loads, but what are you taken? I never heard of anything that would work in 45 days? I have taken the Interferon, then in 1999 the combo and thinking about the peg.

thank you for your reply.. I am taking some kind of concoxion that my

oriental doctor makes up, plus something called thymic which builds the

immune system and the other knocks out the virus. I had a test after 45 days

of taking these two things, but I did't think that it would go way down in

that short period, I just was anxious to see if it was bringing it down at

all. I gained 6 lbs in that time and I do feel better.. Its just that

neither doctor I go to( oriental, and infectous disease doctor) had ever

known of anyone with 25 million. Like I said, mine has gone to 22 million in

the 45 days, and I was just wondering if that was about what I should

expect, However, without anyone else's imput I have no way of knowing.

Thank you for your information, and anything you can provide is deeply

appreciated.

Hi

I have heard of viral loads being that high. What are you taking? Are you on treatment? They say that if your hep c is not 1a you have a better chance of beating the odds. I am 1a viral load 832000. I have just started treatment last week. Have you had a biospy? That is what really tells you how much damage is done to your liver. Doesn't your doctor tell you that you need to be on the peg interferon? I would do some questioning if I were you. I went on alternative meds about three years ago, for a time my alt & ast dropped. I was feeling great. But when I began to eat regular food again my viral load went up. Let me know how you are doing?

God Bless you

-- viral load

I am 59yr old male found out a few months ago I have hep c type 2 and the load 25 million..Began taking some stuff that lowered the count to 22 million in 45 days, however, I do not know if this is expected or what to think, cause non of my doctors have had anyone with that high of a load. I would like to hear from anyone who can relate to that number. I feel better and gained 6 pounds with the stuff I am taking. Same stuff naomi judd got her number to undetectable with. I should be so lucky. Anyway, I feel like the lone ranger and no one can relate where I am at this point. I assume that a drop of any is a good sign. I don 't know if I should have waited longer than 45daysor much of anything else about the 25million number. Please reply if you have any info at all that pertains to that high of a number.

Are you taking thymic Protein A? I am still taking that. It is really good to keep up your red blood cell count while you are on treatment. I have been taking it for years now. The treatment has not effected me at all, thank the Good lord for that. I pray and I know he answers my prayers.

Hi guys,

What is Thymic Protein A? I know Art takes the procrit to help with his RBC, but I have not heard of anything else. My last RBC was 2.6. I take multi Vitamins plus iron and I still cannot bring my RBC up. Any info would be greatly appreciated. (3) months left on the Peg-combo treatment. I have been showing neg sience three months into treatment. I hope it also continues after.

Hope you all had a good side free weekend. I did pretty good.

Except for the neck and throat soreness. I wanted to let you all

know that there is a great site for heppers. HotHeps@...

These are some great people who help each other and are very educated

Hi Terri, yes B is good , should be a real good B complex, it is good for the liver. I can't believe that's what your Dr, told you to do, take iron, it's a big no no. What is your hemoblobin running,do you know? Everytime I get my labs done I ask for a copy of it then I can keep track from each month what everything is doing. They will gladly give you a copy. If I was you I would call your be in charge nurse and ask her about the iron? That concerns me! The bad part is we have to wait for another sixmos. aft.treatment to know where we stand, more waiting. Well I have to get to bed, talk to you soon. Love, Teri

hey princess, sounds like we have something in common. same genotype,

i'm grade 2, stage 4 - cirrhosis. i don't know how much of mine is

still working, i manage to work full time but i just want to sleep

alot these days. how do you feel? i completed the 6 mos of peg-intron

(schering-p) last year with no luck, just pain, still active hep-c

(600K+ viral count). and i don't think i'm back to my old self yet (3

mos post treatment). now the doc (he's a good hep-c/gastro doc and i

trust/like him a lot) want's me to look at the pegasys (la rouche)

when it opens up to the general pub, and even consider continued

interferon w/o rebetron as perm treatment (like ms patients) as it is

showing promise in reducing or even correcting some fibrosis (not

cirrhosis of course). have you heard of any such therapy, and i'd

like to contrast how your feeling, physically, against how i feel.

the buelljockey

> I have a low viral load too, even before treatment, being at

387,000 ---- however, viral load doesn't mean very much in the scope

of things. I am a genotype 3a, rare of this country, however, I'm in

end stage 3 of liver disease... I've had it for over 30 years and

only have 25 percent working liver, so viral load is not an important

number in those regards.
