Hi ,

"no they took me off Imuran"

Why did they do that?

"have kept me on pred & now am on methotrexate???? dr said yest that so far methotrexate isn;t working????? he was doing labs????? so 6 more weeks & then we;ll see what the labs say????? "

Have they talked to you about Cyclosporin A? My Dr says its a bit stronger then Imuran but kinda like it. Well its another immune suppressant so not surprising its similar huh?

"he also decided to run thyroid tests because I'm on pred & no wt gain"

Ohhh.... have you got the results yet? I wonder if everyone puts on weight from prednisone? hmmmmmmm???

How are you feeling? I guess you still feel crappy from the lupus etc.. Hopefully the new drug will help you. I know Imuran takes 3 months before it has built up in your body and works, perhaps the Methe is the same??

Thinking of you and always lovely to here from you!

Love A.

Hi ,

"my depression was partly due to the fact that nothing is better even after almost 1 yr of constant meds"

Yeah hon, I know. I'm now into the 3rd year of treatment. Still changing meds. I wonder if it ever ends? But I am having some success with the drugs I am taking, so perhaps you need a different mix?

*hugs you lots*

Well, from the shoulders up I could pass for a regular size (my face is

really getting thin), below the shoulders I am still over weight.

Because of the size problem everything I wear is loose and that may help

me look thinner (LOL). I am between sizes right now, so it is skintight

or loose. Keep your chin up girl, what feedback are you getting from

other people? I am told I look a lot smaller than I am, that is what I

will go by. I am clinging to all the positives I can find!!! LOL

Dear ,

I was so sad to hear that your ps was postponed. I have been taking

iron pills, since we got home from the picnic, because DrR said my iron was

low and I have to watch that. I just went for my blood test and it is

better. Maybe it is best to make sure the levels are ok before you do

anything. Did you talk to DrR. Ask him, and I am sure then you can be at

ease. So you will do it a little later on. Make sure you are ok

first.......there will be time to do the ps later. My prayers are with you.

Thank you for thinking of us I see the site of the grotto and I got an email

from the one with you, I thank you both.

Keep in touch, Rosemary Commisso

Thanks! I *know* I'll be asking alot more questions, when I have a better

idea of WHAT to ask!! <grin> That will be one sign of progress....! I placed

a large order that should arrive on Thursday (eager beaver...) so I'm hoping

to get all the xmas packages mailed out by then and maybe even the house

decorated (doubt I'll manage though!) Wish me luck!

So sorry to hear about your mom. I sure hope she will be home and feeling better for Christmas. I know what you mean about the guilt of being away. I use to live in Ohio, and I was running back and forth everymonth. The guilt was eating me alive. I finally told my husband that I was going back to Niagara Falls, with , or without him. Some men just dont understand the bond with girls and their parents when they get old. I know there is just so much we can do for them, but staying a step ahead of all of the illness just is overwhelming sometimes. Keep intouch with her as much as you can. A phone call means just as much as a visit sometimes. Take care of yourself because we can get run down before you know it. Merry Christmas , Kathy

Thanks Kathy... I've been calling my Mom at least twice a day. I keep the calls short since she tires easily, though she's been in the hospital for almost a week already. When I called this afternoon, she had a hard time talking because her tongue was stiff (???). So I said I'd call her later when she felt better. Then I immediately called the nursing station on the floor/ward where she is and explained to the nurse that she was having problems talking and eating her lunch and asked to have someone look in on her. The doctor came by shortly thereafter apparently and whatever was up with her tongue has passed now. I'm 3,000 miles away but I'm glad that I thought to call the nurses' station! Sigh.

I wonder if it will come to that (moving) for us too. My brother and sister in law are 10 minutes away from my Mom's place and have been going with her for the more serious doctor's appointments, etc. but they have 3 kids and are always busy. I'd hate to leave California though, but it might come to that. My husband can't work in Canada though so that's another problem to resolve...(not as easy as one thinks to cross the border and work.)

: Hi sounds good to me. I have all but quit loosing also. I loose

a few pounds from time to time. I think I may still have some fat left in

this ole skin., I have not had my fat measured. I may still do that soon.

I am perfectly happy with where I am now. I plan to have ps soon. I really

need bat wings and tummy tuck, and of course the boob job. I want to do as

Dr. R suggested and wait as long as possible to do this so my body can

adjust as much as possible on its own. I have reached a few goals but keep

changing them. I don't know if that is a realistic thing to do or not but

will keep enjoying what I have now and let myself breath a while. Friends

are saying they were worried about me before mgb and so was I but I feel I

can relax now. I can hardly wait for the family reunion in July. Some or

most of the family was not in favor of me having the surgery but I did not

ask their opinion and went for it and now they are so glad I did and some of

them are even looking into wls.

I plan to keep up with this ole body better now and do what I can for it and

goo from there.

Hope things are better for you now that your iron is up maybe you can have

that plastic surgery. I thought last time I saw you that you didn't have

much sagging skin but like the hair color commercial. only your (not

hairdresser) dresser knows for sure. I think we all still see ourselves as

fat until we take care of that skin. I now have support I did not have

before but have lost some of the support I did have. I don'[t know if it is

jeolosy or not but I am not going to fret over small things.

Are you going to the picnic?. I hope to get to go. My hubby and I are

going to try to work it out. I doubt if I will stay at the Hawthorne but may

I just don't know.

Love to my adopted litter mate. Phyllis

Hi , aka Miss Bionic Ear,

I appreciate your kind words about my mom. She has had good energy today,

gearing up for my CI, I think and hope! Tonight, we had a lively

conversation with my stepgrandmother, who is here for a visit, but leaves

before my CI next week. I'm so proud of Mom for all her bravery in every

medical travail she's had, but think she has an inner strength!

I hope I will, too, next week. 9 more days....

M.

I'm next........

Kristy,

What I had heard was that the carbonation with prematurely stretch the

stomach as the gas is released, which will slow weight loss. That's long

term.

Immediate post-op for a few months, it the carbonation and gas can actually

rupture the staple lines.

Neither is a desirable situation.

- there you are!!! I was wondering about you at the meeting. Hadn't

seen or heard from you in ages. Glad you're feeling better. And

fortunately for me.... I don't drink sodas. Never have. One sip on a very

odd occasion. Water has been my drink of choice for years. Although I am

looking forward to a good Cosmopolitan or Margarita on my birthday in

October (my real birthday and my surgery birthday!) Hope to see you at

Marta's pool party in July! Tammy

Hi, ,

Thanks for the update on how well you are doing with your CI. Just want

you to know I am thrilled for you! I get remapped on Thursday and am going

to ask my audi to let me try the ACE 1200. (am on ACE 900 now). So many have

written that distinction seems to come with the ACE 1200. Again -

congratulations!

Hi CAthy " We still don't know the cause of any of it. It is most likely

the kidney stones could be caused by not drinking enough fluids(water). The

blood in stool may be related to MGB however we don't know. That is why Dr. R

wants us to have the egd every year and colonoscopy. Just to make sure we

dont have ulcers or anything like that. I did not intend to imply it was

MGB related just that I had been doing so good for so long you just fall into a

rut and expect it to continue. I have started missing vitamins and citrucel

on occasions lately. I have been bad and it is catching up with me. Any

thing that could have been done differently was my doing and noone elses.

I was planning on going to Alaska in September on a cruise but it has fallen

thru and I am somewhat blue.

My sister who had WLS 20 years ago fell and was home alone. She broke her

femur and it was displaced. She lay in the floor for 8 hours before anyone

could get to her. That has had us all pretty upset. She is now home and

having Physical therapy.

Hope you are doing well. I haven't had time to post much lately and hardly

have time to read the post but do try to at least once a week.

I am to see urologist again the 10th and the gastroenterologist the 11th.

Don't look forward to either. Phyllis

I sleep with my operated leg in the CPM machine which is not the problem. Actually I prefer to sleep "in it" but after 3 hours or so nature calls so off to the bathroom. Then I come back to bed and unless I go in the machine again (which I need help from my sleeping husband in the other room), I find it hard to get comfortable hence making sleep difficult. Sometimes I can manage 2 hours before I wake up again (from pain) so back in the machine where it's most comfortable (I'm not a back sleeper so sleeping with one leg up makes it real easy on the back).

Did I give you more than you asked for? LOL. Actually, I'm pretty lucky. The CPM is very noisy but doesn't bother me a bit as I'm deaf. Poor hubby can't stand the noise.

Actually, , Im glad you told me this because now I know I can probably rent a cpm machine when I come home from the hospital (you can rent them, cant you?) I think Id rather do the machine daily than do physical therapy for awhile

It pains me to sleep on my back too as its not comfortable with sciatica. Sometimes I have to sleep in my recliner now in order to sleep at all. Knee pain sucks bad. Youre in good company cause Im hearing impaired too and hubby has loss of hearing in one ear.

Is the machine really that loud?

Are you having TKR? I'm sure that your doctor will prescribe a CPM machine for you to use at home, just like the one in the hospital. It's covered by your insurance all or in part. All the machine does is keep your knee/leg in motion. It does not exert the muscles. That can only be done with physical therapy which begins the day after surgery! I do PT 3 X day and can tell the improvement daily! Without the strong muscles you can't walk well. The CPM goes back after 18 days after surgery. Walking with a walker...maybe a month or more. As for the noise, I'll have to ask Ron. I don't seem to hear any noise from it with my hearing aid on. His ears are sensitive, especially when trying to sleep! LOL.

I'm sorry to hear you have sciatica. That must be painful. I have tried to sleep in my recliner a few times but I still prefer my bed if I can get rid of the pain. Last night I had the worst night...pain in lower calf which I think was a varicroise vein flare up. It was my first night without TEDS support hose. Nurse told me to keeps taking pains meds, at least every 12 hours (Vicodin) even though I have no pain during the day. She said I can continue to wear TEDS at night so I will do that. I don't want another sleepless painful night like last night! My visiting nurse is really wonderful. She spent 15 min. on the phone with me about this.

Hi ,

Yes, Im eventually going to have TKR because I can not walk at all without crutches now. No cartilege left in the knees.

Ok I understand now about the cpm machine. The machine keeps the joint moving but its the PT that really gets things moving, right?

Sciatica is very painful and sometimes will literally drag you down to the floor. Its like you take a step and put pressure on the leg that has sciatica and bam you are down on the floor if you are not careful. Doesnt happen alot but Im really careful now and dont move the wrong way.

I too, prefer the bed but since Im pre opt now I dont have much choice in how I can sleep as the bed is just too painful right now. I think the recliner cradles my body better than the bed at the moment and that will all likely change once I get the knees replaced.

I have varicose veins in my left leg too and sometimes suffer from flare ups.......I hope this doesnt mean Im more prone to deep vein clots!

I can see your recovery is working out really well and Im really glad for you.........soon, this will all be a thing of the past!

By the way, Im delighted to know another hearing impaired person.......Ive worn a hearing aid since age 3 which is a long, long, long time LOL

Cheers

Judie
