Guest guest Report post Posted May 3, 2002 Do not know if it is legal or not. They got away with everything else though, even stealing $20 from me by not putting it towards the bill and not giving me a receipt for it. At that time bill was $450. I figure what will be said is was just some HCV person and not worth bothering with. Just another Throwaway person. Also, no longer their patient. I was their patient, at the time of the script issue though. They have strung me on since February, March, with their mistake on writing the scripts. I have been using some older stuff I had, when I ran out. Sounds like you had a great cat. It would kill me if I had to put one down. Seeing the trust in their eyes for me. Guest guest Report post Posted May 3, 2002 CTC program screens applicants to see if they qualify for the meds. Once that is all done a Pharmacy will be used to send them out at no charge. Had no problem with Priority Pharmacy, actually they were great. CTC nows has Express Groups to send it and they want new scripts. I need to have scripts, I was told and that they can be faxed....Oh well. I am wore out, I think the fight in me is finally gone, it is one thing after another and I am too tired. Connie --- " E.D. Guest guest Report post Posted May 4, 2002 Call and complain to your local and state medical boards. Also contact the State Board of Health and whoever licenses physicians in your state. I remember having a discussion with a pharmacist regarding filling an expired prescription. He indicated he could be liable if someone needed the medication and he refused to fill it in an emergency. I'm a little fuzzy on details but it sounds to me like your Dr. may have some liability if he refuses to continue care for you. Bruce mailto:bdcbbq1@... Guest guest Report post Posted May 4, 2002 Thanks Bruce, I have already experienced him dropping me as a patient. Was told they mailed a registered letter to me. I never saw it and when I said something they said I could come by and pick up a copy of ir. I didn't. How I found out was when Pharmacy here called for a refill on some script. Guest guest Report post Posted May 4, 2002 Connie, I agree with Bruce. What your doctor is doing sounds like coercion (refusing to re-write a prescription unless old bills are paid off), not to mention abandonment. (He has you on powerful medications and is not following your care, nor has he made any provisions for another doctor to take over your care.) I would call your state medical board. Look in the phone book under state listings. In Texas it would be the 'State Board of Medical Examiners " , and it shows a toll free number to call to report complaints. At least call to find out what your legal rights are. They could vary from state to state, and it's possible that you may not be able to do anything. Then, depending on what you find out, you might type up a letter to Dr. A stating CALMLY your feelings on the matter, and that you are going to file a complaint against him (or that you already have), that you are paying your bill off as quickly as you can, what you want from him (be very clear on this!), etc. Be very clear and calm. Then mail the letter to HIM certified mail, only HE can sign for it, and RETURN RECEIPT REQUESTED. It doesn't sound to me like you are asking for much, just the re-writing of a prescription. It's possible he doesn't even know about this - his wife/nurse/staff or whatever may not have even told him what is going on. I have found that often these office personnel 'protect' the doctor from his patients! I doubt if a bunch of people writing him angry letters will do much good. He will probably never see them! Guest guest Report post Posted May 4, 2002 Hi Connie.... You're sounding a bit down but I'm so far behind in mail that hopefully your spirits have picked up a little. We've all been there I think....one thing after another until you feel like you just can't fight another fight. But the humyn species is pretty amazing...there always seems to be a hidden reserve that pops up when we need it the most. Hang in there....you aren't alone, we are all here for you when you need propping up. Many times I've let everyone here prop me up until I could get my feet under me again and it's a good feeling to know that we don't have to face any of this alone. Guest guest Report post Posted May 4, 2002 Connie.....why did the Doctor drop you as a patient? I didn't think they were allowed to do that unless there was a serious dispute between the 2 of you? Is this so called registered letter that you didn't get the only way he told you you were no longer his patient? Don't you have to sign that you received the registered letter? If so, and you didn't get it, there is no signature from you....which makes him still liable for your care. At least that's the way I understand it, but maybe it works differently in the USA? Guest guest Report post Posted May 4, 2002 Its a long story but here it is. well when I came down with Diabetes I went to the health department for help. I get to much a month for them to treat me and also did not know if different for me cause of the Hep C. They called the Drs office for me to see him. The whole time I was going I just thought he was a great person seeing me for nothing. Then I got accused of knowingly stealing from the Dr cuz they only give you the one appt. I was called a liar with a finger in my face by his bookeeper loud enough for waiting room to hear her. She told me then that I owed $475. The bookeeper also is the one who kept the $20 I stood there and saw it handed to her. Supposedly I was sent a registered letter, I did not get one or any sign of one. How I found out I was no longer a patient was from the Pharmacy when they called for a refill. I called and was told it was the Dr's decision but no other reason, this came from the Dr's wife. I had questioned them about the $20 and they rather just say I didn't pay it, I suppose. Because they would have to face up to their bookeeper stealing it. I don't know if it is worth all this that keeps me upset. I am depressed enough already. I think registered mail you have to sign for it, but not sure. He is also one that prescribes the Glucotrol for the Diabetes and I have one refill left. I am wondering if maybe I can handle it with diet, but I am not and never was a sweet eater.. Guest guest Report post Posted May 4, 2002 Dammmm what an awful situation Connie. The Doctors office is definitely at fault for not spelling out to you the cost right from the beginning. Then the insult of " stealing " ....is a way for the staff to get out of the situation. The important thing is: you need your meds. Specially for diabetes. The situation with this office shouldn't prevent you from getting a script from another Dr. though, should it? I know the hassle of having to find another Dr., all the questions....re-tests etc. Sheeeeesh, I wish I could advise you....but this is beyond my comprehension that they can just get away with dumping a patient who is in desperate need of medication.....it just boggles my mind. I guess all I can say is to follow everyone else's advice and call the people they suggested. I wish you the best of luck in getting this sh*t cleared up Connie. You really didn't this crap right now....I can't understand why crappy things happens to sick people (like Edie said before). It sucks. It sucks.
