Hi Deb,

My wife told me a long time ago that many over-the-counter pain

medications contain caffeine to expedite the transmission of the

medication across the stomach barrier. It's the same concept. That's

why I drink a lot of tea or coffee on bad days, it helps the pain meds

work faster.

Best Regards,

Alan

I am not alone! LOL pam

> LOL...Oh, Pam. This gets better and better. I bet you really get

some ribbing from your family. I still hear from my kids about the

time about 25 years ago when I grabbed the Lysol instead of the mouth

wash while trying to get out the door to church.

swallow (no, I immediately spit it out) and rinsed well, I was okay.

But they advised the kids to go over the bottle labels with their

mother! :-)

Alan, that would explain why my ibuprofren seems to work better in

the morning wouldn't it? And come to think of it when I get a rare

migrain, the first thing I do is drink coffee. Thanks.

I would get a second opininon. This seems like it

could possibly be toxic for a child so young.

Try to investigate because shakes siezures are due to toxins, metals and

There is alot of alternative ways to handle this problem, my son proudly to say

at the end of August it will be 1 year since his last but that also didn't

happen by itself, it was trying everything that came my way to help him, I tried

a bunch of stuff and it all helped but since we started with the Protein shake

with raw eggs, that is what did the trick for him.

When your body is seizing it is searching for the nutrients that it is either

running low or out of. I always say try it all and see if it will work for you.

Hi!

Yes, my son had the shakes a few yrs ago and I am thinking it was when

the dr. started him out at a fairly big dose of Depakote. This dr.

was very responsive when I reported his shakes and lowered his meds.

You need to demand the dr. look into this immediately. I am curious

as to what kind of diagnosis your daughter has had.

Someone recently posted about their daughter having the shakes..

I happen to be a nutritional consultant and I am relatively

knowledgable about health and nutrition...I believe that what would

be helpful to you daughter is to take Lugols Iodine and Magnesium

Oil....

These are two major minerals that most people are deficient in...

to find out more about magnesium go to:

www.globallight.net

Here are some examples of iodine deficiency:

Fatigue

Headaches & Migraines

PMS

Easy Weight Gain

Depression

Irritability

Insomnia

Allergies

Fibro Cystic Breast Disease

Fluid Retention

Anxiety & Panic Attacks

Hair Loss

Poor Memory

Poor Concentration

Low Sex Drive

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

Hives

Acidic morning urine pH below 6.5

Unhealthy Nails

Dry Skin & Hair

Cold Intolerance

Heat Intolerance

Low Motivation/Ambition

Acne

Asthma

High Cholesterol/Triglycerides

Cancer

not only does iodine (the painting of or the internal consumption of

Lugol's iodine solution) cure an impending cold or flu, iodine also

cures acne, PMS, anxiety, allergies, hypothyroidism, bladder

infections, moles and dermatitis. Additionally, iodine has cured

fibroystic breast disease.

To find out more about the benefits of iodine visit:

Hi,

you might want to try the group " b6children " , it could be pyridoxine

sensitivity, if not pyridoxine dependency. You can ask the expert moms there.

Please look into avoiding certain food additives and allergenic nutrition.

All the best to you and your little one!

Yes, I agree. PLEASE demand that your doctor wean some of these

meds. I cannot imagine any 2 yr old needing 4 drugs. Shakes are a

sure indicator of toxicity. Unfortunately, this is all a guessing

game as to which and how many drugs work. Most of these drugs are

barely 5 yrs old and the Neuros really don't know how they work

together, especially with little ones. BEst of Luck and trust your

gut.

WOW !!! I can't believe that. Demand you have levels checked and then consult

another Dr. I was on 3 meds it's all about which one are with each other. I had

carbatrol, Zonagran, and Keppra. Very high doses and got the shakes and was

seeing things and double vision and was still trying to work until one day I

just broke down and fell and Hit my face at work plastic Surgury to close it all

up. I started going to a new Dr and he told me to trust him he weaned me off

of the Zonagran and increased my keppa and decrease my morning meds and I have

not had any shakes, double vision, and fill 110% better then I have ever felt

sense all this started now I just have to live with a big scare accross my face

but its better then feeling ,and dealing with all of those other side affect.

Soon I will be back on the road driving again after 2 1/2 yr. So yes I am sorr

go and get a check up again and consult another Dr.where are you located and

maybe you could travel to get the best.

By chance did you have any breakthrough seizures when weaning off the

zonegran? My son is on a very small dose (50mg/50mg), but we just tried

to wean him and he began having breakthrough seizures and auras.

Lani-my son was put on zantac along with his naprosyn because it was causing

very bad

upset stomach. Sometimes he wouldn't eat and sometimes he would get the

vomiting as

well. The zantac seems to be working for now, but the ped rheumy said they

could add

prevacid instead of zantac if his stomach was still upset. I know methotrexate

can be

rough on the stomach too.

Naproxen made Isabelle throw up a lot and we ended up switching her

back to Ibuprofen because of it. It's a great medication for some

children but for us it was tummy torture. We are on the MTX injections

so don't know much about he oral MTX. Shots aren't fun but it maybe

worth it to ask about switching to injectable?

Lani, my daughter is 9 and has taken both of those meds together, for years! We are now on mtx and enbrel shots, but it wasn't till the last few months of taking the naproxen, that she had stomach problems. We noticed it more, when she took it close to bed time.....they ended up putting her on prilosec for the stomach problems.

Hi all, I was wondering if anyone knew about being on Naproxen andMethotrexate at the same time. My daughter will be two in July, and she is on 4ml. of Naproxen twice a day with food, and 4 Methotrexate pills orally taken crushed-up and mixed in food everySunday (once a week). We just upped to 4 pills of Methotrexate thisweek, but I forgot to check if the Naproxen has to change. I put acall in to the Rheumy just to check, but I thought he would have toldme if it was going to change.I think the meds do a number on her stomach. She has little to noappetite the day she has her meds, and randomly throws up from time totime. Does anyone else use both these meds at the same time, and havestomach problems? Thanks :)Lani

Nice to hear you are doing well. I was told that in order to get the

most out of my PT, that I needed to stay on my meds. That meant no

driving for me.

Can I ask if you are on any meds and how often your PT is?

I see my OS on Monday, and I am just over 6 weeks postop. Wondering

if I can suggest a different med that would allow me to drive. I used

to be on Naproxen, and wonder if that would be an alternative to the

Norco and Oxycontin.

Today I had no choice but to reduce my meds, as I don't have enough to

get me through Monday. I am alternating with tylenol/advil, and so

far so good. I know it is not good to go off the prescription meds

cold turkey, so haven't. But the amount is sure less than before.

That's what I get for forgetting to check the number of pills I had

left. No one's fault but my own.

I have been on anti-depressants before and didn't like them. When my pain is

controlled, I'm pretty happy. It has just been hard tweaking the meds. Last

week, I was in so much pain, I told my husband I can see why people became

suicidal. He does not give me too much support. People without chronic pain just

can't " get it " . Also, I really can't afford any more meds. I am trying to get

started with applying for disability. It is a very overwhelming project when you

have no help and am in constant pain. :(

That's my whine for the day..lol

So your  apping  for your  social security retirement disabitiy. You wil

be turn down the first time I was due to my age they say

we believe you are  disable but do to your age we feel youcan get a job

in another field.

So i got a lawyer robert Freidman i think he nation wide lawyer he was

great. You have to have one to win. It took about 4year to get a

hearing in washington state.I know different from state to

state. But he ask me if my doctor would write to social secuity

explaining why i was disable.

She wrote a great letter explain the injuries and why I was disable. I had a

hearing with two week of social security getting that etter. Well the night

before the hearing I got a call from the lawyer and told me i did have to appear

at the hearing that i got my benifit.

He spoke to the hearing judge and he believe i was disable I was a lucky one I

see no these support groups that everyone has to go to the hearings. I did main

for the medical benifit as my juries where on the job and got permantment

penison. get your doctor behind you and apply as soon as possible. I applied

with 3 month of my injuries when i was i may not be able to return to work

again. See can get a letter like i did and send it with your first app. to

apply it may help you get right off the bat.

there another support group call backpain 24-7 which belong to and here

a letter from they files you may want to join there onther stuff in the file

about pain. but copy this and pasted here it may help your husband understand

your pain Steve

A Letter to Normals from a Person With Chronic Pain

Having chronic pain means many things change, and a lot of them are invisible.

Unlike having cancer or being hurt in an accident, most people

do not understand even a little about chronic pain and its effects, and of those

that think they know, many are actually misinformed.

In the spirit of informing those who wish to understand: These are the things

that I would like you to understand about me before you judge me.

Please understand that being sick doesn't mean I'm not still a human being. I

have to spend most of my day in considerable pain and exhaustion, and if you

visit, sometimes I probably don't seem like much fun to be with, but I'm still

me, stuck inside this body. I still worry about school, my family, my friends,

and most of the time I'd still like to hear you talk about yours too.

Please understand the difference between " happy " and " healthy " . When you've got

the flu, you probably feel miserable with it, but I've been sick for years. I

can't be miserable all the time. In fact, I work hard at not being miserable.

So if you're talking to me and I sound happy, it means I'm happy, that's all.

It doesn't mean that I'm not in a lot of pain, or extremely tired, or that I'm

getting better, or any of those things. Please don't say, " Oh, you're sounding

better! " or " But you look so healthy! " I am merely coping. I am sounding happy

and trying to look normal. If you want to comment on that, you're welcome.

Please understand that being able to stand up for ten minutes doesn't

necessarily mean that I can stand up for twenty minutes, or an hour. Just

because I managed to stand up for thirty minutes yesterday doesn't mean that I

can do the same today. With a lot of diseases you're either paralyzed, or you

can move. With this one, it gets more confusing everyday. It can be like a

yo-yo. I never know from day to day how I am going to feel when I wake up. In

most cases I never know from minute to minute. That is one of the hardest and

most frustrating components of chronic pain.

Please repeat the above paragraph substituting, " sitting " , " walking " ,

" thinking " , " concentrating " , " being sociable " and so on, it applies to

everything.

That's what chronic pain does to you.

Please understand that chronic pain is variable. It's quite possible (for many

it's common) that one day I am able to walk to the park and back, while the next

day I'll have trouble getting to the next room. Please don't attack me when I'm

ill by saying, " But you did it before! " or " Oh, come on, I know you can do

this! " If you want me to do something, then ask if I can. In a similar vein, I

may need to cancel a previous commitment at the last minute. If this happens,

please do not take it personally. If you are able, please try to always remember

how very lucky you are, to be physically able to do all of the things that you

can do.

Please understand that " getting out and doing things " does not make me feel

better, and can often make me seriously worse. You don't know what I go

throughor how I suffer in my own private time. Telling me that I need to

exercise, or do some things to " get my mind off of it " , may frustrate me to

tears, and is not correct. If I was capable of doing some things any or all of

the time, don't you know that I would? I am working with my doctors and I am

doing what I am supposed to do.

Another statement that hurts is, " You just need to push yourself more, try

harder " . Obviously, chronic pain can deal with the whole body, or be localized

to specific areas. Sometimes participating in a single activity for a short or a

long period of time can cause more damage and physical pain than you could ever

imagine. Not to mention the recovery time, which can be intense. You can't

always read it on my face or in my body language. Also, chronic pain may cause

secondary depression (wouldn't you get depressed and down if you were hurting

constantly for months or years?), but it is not created by depression.

Please understand that if I say I have to sit down, lie down, stay in bed, or

take these pills now, that probably means that I do have to do it right now, it

can't be put off or forgotten just because I'm somewhere, or I'm right in the

middle of doing something. Chronic pain does not forgive, nor does it wait for

anyone.

If you want to suggest a cure to me, please don't. It's not because I don't

appreciate the thought, and it's not because I don't want to get well. Lord

knows that isn't true. In all likelihood, if you've heard of it or tried it, so

have I. In some cases, I have been made sicker, not better. This can involve

side effects or allergic reactions, as is the case with herbal remedies. It also

includes failure, which in and of itself can make me feel even lower. If there

were something that cured, or even helped people with my form of chronic pain,

then we'd know about it. There is worldwide networking (both on and off the

Internet) between people with chronic pain.

If something worked, we would KNOW. It's definitely not for lack of trying. If,

after reading this, you still feel the need to suggest a cure, then so be it. I

may take what you said and discuss it with my doctor. If I seem touchy, it's

probably because I am. It's not how I try to be. As a matter of fact, I try very

hard to be normal. I hope you will try to understand. I have been, and am still

going through a lot.

Chronic pain is hard for you to understand unless you have had it. It wreaks

havoc on the body and the mind. It is exhausting and exasperating almost all the

time. I know that I am doing my best to cope with this and live my life to the

best of my ability. I ask you to bear with me and accept me as I am. I know

that you cannot literally understand my situation unless you have been in my

shoes, but as much as is possible, I am asking you to try to be

understanding in general.

In many ways I depend on you, people who are not sick. I need you to visit me

when I am too sick to go out. Sometimes I need you help me with the shopping,

the cooking, or the cleaning. I may need you to take me to the doctor, or to the

store. You are my link to the " normalcy " of life. You can help me to keep in

touch with the parts of life that I miss and fully intend to undertake again,

just as soon as I am able.

I know that I asked a lot from you, and I do thank you for listening. It really

does mean a lot.

'Open letters' format to describe living with a chronic ailment.

These are similar in spirit to the Open Letter but, as far as I am aware, have

been conceived completely separately. The topics are many: Fibro, Chronic

I went to the pain doc yesterday and told him how much pain I was in after the

bilateral radiofrequency ablation. He put me on

Neuronton(gabapentin) with my oxycodones. Anybody have an opinion on Neuronton?

Any advice will be appreciated. My pain has been running between 7-10 since that

procedure. :(

Some people have great luck with Nuerontin while others think they are in a

nightmare when they take it. I was on it for only 7 days then I was talking to

myself. I felt like I jsut wasn't there. So I quit but give it a try it might

work very well for you just watch out for side effects.
